Jose Guerena was shot at least 60 times as a SWAT team burst into his house. Vanessa called "911", but the SWAT team prevented the paramedics from reaching Jose.

Noted and signed. You are correct, Carole, this is outrageous. Without a day in court for Jose, we will never know the truth of the circumstances. Thank heavens his wife and child were not injured or killed. With armed men as out of control as these, they are lucky. Good he told them to hide in the closet. I wonder if he was even armed. Given a warning? These days, a coverup is almost assumed. Poor family, poor community. Thanks for the petition, Joan, and the forward, Carole.

I covered this story, via DTDN, along with stories of other veterans who came home to similar experiences. It is more then outrageous it's terrorism at its height and it's coming from home grown American terrorist. This happened while this family was asleep. The mother, wife, heard something and saw a shadow pass her window, she wakened her husband who did what any family's protector would do, told her to hide with their baby while he went to see what was going on and took his weapon just in case. There were no drugs found in this house. In fact swat went to the wrong house. This young man never got a shot off. 81 bullets were found and 60 were in this young fathers body. The war on drugs, in many ways, has been a war on the poor and minority's. Thank you JOAN! Carole for sharing..

I'm afraid that there is an ongoing war going on between the Federal Government and the people of this nation. This is just one more example of what is being perpetuated on the citizens of this country. It doesn't matter anylonger what form this violence takes - whether it's economic or personal (like arresting people for dancing at the Jefferson Memorial). It's only going to get much worse over time until the people finally decide that enough is enough! Thanks for posting, Joan!

I know that there is something funny going on with this petition. I just signed it over 45 minutes ago and it says that nobody has signed it. I think the entire country should be outraged by this incident.

Just Carole (338)
Tuesday June 7, 2011, 2:02 pm

When I first read this story (from another poster), the thing that stuck in my gut was the fact that this veteran, literally, "bled out" (like an animal slaughtered for meat) while law enforcement officers obstructed paramedic assistance for over an hour.

There's no excuse that can be given to justify that.

Don't apologize, Joan. Similar stories are posted by different sources, so there's no way Care2 can catch that.

For now we are all listed as signature #1 but will probably work itself out in time. Report the link to Care2.

This needs to reach the national news. Because of this so-called "drug war" we are allowing our citizens to murdered in their homes. When is enough - really enough?

Anyway, here's what I wrote in the comment area: " I suspect his Hispanic name is what killed him - AZ. has just gone insane.. and continues to prove it by letting people bleed out when they aren't killed out-right.. I fear for his wife & child..:( "

I signed, I hope eventually the signature will show up, said mine was #1 as well.

Welcome to the new America, which is happening far too many times. Yet still we have doubters. Perhaps they will begin to believe when their loved one diong nothing gets shot to death. How many die before the citizens understand what is taking place.

That poor woman, what trauma to her and her child. Why on earth could medical help not come in, whether he was guilty or innocent, isn't one innocent until proven guilty? Not that he would of been saved, talk about the extreme overkill.

So much for serving you Country and the Freedom not to be shot in your own home! Will they pay for her childs education? Will they see to it he keeps a roof over his head like paying off the mortgage if there was one? Will they clothe him and feed the child after killing his Father? Will they pay for this woman's medical care for I'm sure she is going to be emotionally suffering. How could one ever feel safe in their bed and home again?

I hope this petition gets sorted out, it deserves every signature and then some. Disgraceful actions leading to tragic ending.

Here's the link to the first article I read about this:

http://newstaco.com/2011/05/24/cops-shoot-latino-marine-71-times-deny-him-care-in-arizona/

[Excerpt from the article]

"This is a pretty egregious case of police brutality and racial profiling, if you ask me. I can’t imagine the terror this poor woman and her son experienced, listening to her husband die, pleading for help, being ignored and treated like a criminal as he lay bleeding out on his own carpet."

This is terrible. Yes, it's noted and signed by me. When are they going to stop wasting money on this crazy stuff, when it could be put to better use in other places. A trillion dollars in this is such a waste of money, time, and personal.

Please alert your Care2 (and outside) friends to this petition.

(Why does keep reminding me of the Pastor Martin Niemöller verses?)

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists,
And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists,
And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews,
And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . .
And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

SPEAK UP!

Joan thank you for sticking with this for it is an extremely important petition. People need to remember, it could of been any one of us sleeping in the house that night. Who is to say it isn't you tomorrow? This is careless to the point it is dangerous as it caused the death of this man, trauma to his wife, and a child that will never get to know his Father. These gestapo methods need to stop, from Waco to this man, it increases each year and none of us are safe.

I resigned and will send along......this is a National Disgrace to a Veteran and a Shame on all of us in addtion to it being a danger to all of us. Can we stop the Wars?

JM A. (176)

SWAT TEAMS SWAT....NO QUESTIONS FIRST. THEY ACT ON ORDERS FROM THEIR LEADERS....WHO HAVE CRIMINAL INFORMATION ON THE SUSPECT, THE TARGETED PERSON.
THEY ATTACK IN HOMES WHEN THEY BELIEVE THE PERSON IS AT EASE AND UNAWARE OR PREPARED TO RETALIATE. THEY SHOOT TO KILL. THEY ARE OVER THE TOP WITH THEIR ATTACKS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT MAJOR CRIMES JOSE GUERENA MAY HAVE COMMITTED TO POSSIBLY DESERVE SUCH AN EXTREME EXTERMINATION. UNFORTUNATELY, WE CITIZENS ARE ONLY CYBER WITNESSES TO THIS ASSAULT BY U.S.A. POLICE. SWAT SHOULD BE REEVALUATED.
60 BULLETS, IN A POSSIBLY UNARMED MAN, IN HIS HOME WITH HIS FAMILY THERE, IS CERTAINLY A GIANT RED FLAG FOR A NEED FOR ANALYSIS & REDIRECTION. SO MUCH OF OUR WORLD IS SO EXTREME IN ITS' BEHAVIOR. SWAT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW FAR FROM A HUMANISTIC WORLD WE ACTUALLY ARE .....

When you think about it, it's a crying shame that ordinary citizens need to unite; draft a petition, inform others, and painstakingly gather signatures of affirmation attesting to this travesty . . . in order to make the "caretakers" of this country ACT on such an obvious injustice.

Disgusting!

I need to take a moment to give well-earned commendation to a Care2 member -- who also volunteers her time to help Care2 Customer Support, by co-hosting Feedback & Suggestions, and serves as a needed buffer and facilitator between members and overwhelmed Care2 administration/tech support:

Zen Whisperingtree

Zen worked with me (for hours) this morning, acting as a liaison, and dove in with enthusiasm and caring to sort out the problems we faced in making this petition go live.

We're blessed with her kindness (and a few green stars thrown her way are definitely merited).

Glad it's all working for you now, Joan, you did a good job for your very first petition.
Thank you very much for your kind words, Carole, they are greatly appreciated. But the thanks should really go to Eric, Care2 support, and to Lauren W from the Petition Site, who helped to sort this out.

I just rechecked to see if my name had come up and it finally did... #121, so I guess they're starting to be counted. I thought the police went overboard when they shot my dog six times last December, but 60 times they shot this young man? Unbelievable... and they didn't even have the right house. The only thing that didn't surprise me was that it was the state of Arizona...

I hope the site works properly again because this shameful tragedy needs to get lots of attention in high places.I feel deeply for Vanessa and their son. How can a complete well trained SWAT team get só overboard, it's unbelievable. These guys will have to live with this for the rest of their lives as will Vanessa and their son. They're all in my thoughts and prayers.

This is really an unbelievable outrage and a tragedy.

I signed & commented, however naive it may sound: "It is common knowledge that a suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. How can it possibly be legal or legitimate to execute a man who has not been tried or even charged with a crime? How can it possibly be legal or legitimate for a SWAT team to behave as though they were in a war zone when they break into an ordinary American home? Is human life worth nothing to Arizona law enforcement officials and/or those who supervise SWAT operations there? Why is the preservation of life not a top priority for such teams? Why was medical treatment refused? We deserve a full investigation of this horrifying tragedy and, at the very least, the heads of those responsible should roll." - because the people who will get this petition need to be reminded of how things are supposed to work, even if they don't actually work that way.

I didn't mention the victim's Hispanic names, because that shouldn't be taken into account, even if it is.

I must say, though, that the petition is a bit dishonest, because I didn't see anywhere that he was armed -- I read about it only on this thread. Obviously, he could have been disarmed without being massacred and it wouldn't and shouldn't have taken more than one shot to do so.

What's with these SWAT teams? Are they on drugs? Adrenaline or something? How can they break into someone's home and start shooting as though they were in battle when it is just one man & his family?

#142, site working fine now.Thanks very much Joan!
There's something terribly wrong if a state can LEGALLY ASSASSINATE people and call it crime fighting. This case badly needs investigation AND PROSECUTION for murder.

There are so many comments on this article, that I am repeating Just Carol's from above. If we don't keep speaking out and act to change things, then they won't change:

Please alert your Care2 (and outside) friends to this petition.

(Why does keep reminding me of the Pastor Martin Niemöller verses?)

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists,
And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists,
And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews,
And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . .
And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

SPEAK UP!

I signed the petition and left note at how outrageous this killing was. I also said that I hoped the widow and children were being taken care of for the rest of their lives by the government which killed their husband/father. What a disgusting turn this country has taken. If it was the wrong house, certainly the killers should be prosecuted. I don't care whose mistake it was, a life was taken for nothing it seems. I'm with Matthew Cloner and Kit B. This event certainly should be investigated and reported avidly. It's a good question why it hasn't been all over the news. I heard something about it, but not nearly enough.

Having lived in Tucson AZ for over 12 years, I 'm not surprised at what happened there. The police/ SWAT teams always had and still have a shoot first approach, always with excessive force. Eveni if Jose Guarene was guilty, possesion of marajuana is NOT a capital offense., but he was executed anyway, no questions asked.
The SWAT team and Sheriff Dupnik should be prosecuted to the max. They've gone too far.

Whether his family is allowed their 'day in court' or not, you will never hear the real truth - 'cover-ups' seem to be a daily US of A occurrence! Yes, it is your 'normal' insane abuse of power - the SWAT teams think they're also 'above the law'. Police brutality? No - from 'this side of the ocean' it appears to be State/Government brutality to reach their 'goal' - elimination of the nation, by whatever means! The petition is still not right and it won't allow me to sign - says I signed 2 days ago.

another report on jose guerena

The SWAT team supervisor gave a statement to investigators immediately after the incident. “Yeah, I, I was scared,” said Pima County Sheriff's DepartmentSgt. Bob Krygier. “If you look at the house, you see the bullets are flying right through everything.” All of those bullets came from the officers - the safety on Guerena’s weapon was active. The reckless gunfire riddled nearby occupied homes with bullets. No incriminating evidence was found in the home aside from firearms and body armor that a former member of the armed services might have. Police also found a baseball cap with a Border Patrol logo. Guerena had intended to apply for a job at the agency.

Signed. Of course!! I keep seeing a picture in my mind of that poor 'boy' needing medical attentiont and paramadics not being allowed ot get to him. That is MURDER and it is HORRIBLE and INNEXCUSABLE and UNNECESSARY LOSS OF A YOUNG LIFE! Anyone found guilty of causing this terrible loss of life, should have hormone treatment of so much estogen that they grow enourous breats! and become weepy and premenstrual constantly!! Only a midless thug full of testoterone so that they had no control over their brains could think something like this is justifiable!( That is after those of you who feel they can have floggged them, of course!) I am quite sure that women would NOT do this, unless they are too full of testosterone!! Honestly, if a dog had done this, they would have their balls cut off!

This is just so frickin sad and discusting. Now a Nation has lost a hero, a child has lost her father, a wife has lost her husband, a mother & Father have lost a son and many have lost a friend!
This is just dispictable how this joke of a SWAT Team handeled this situation. They should all be fired permanently and without pay and the city sued for billions but all the money in the world will not bring this gentleman back. Money will NEVER make this right and what you have done in the name of the Law........well, I would not even be allowed to put it into words here. Discusting, simply discusting! You need to get off of your POWER TRIPS and get back to planet Earth.

If you told me back in the 1960's that something like this could happen in America, I would never have believed it. I will repeat what I posted before: We the citizens of this country are under attack by our government. Our freedoms and God-given rights are being taken away from us, little by little everyday. Our civil liberties and basic freedoms are being eroded by a Federal Government that has no respect for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the letter of the law. Any man who is killed while in the process of defending his family and home in this manner has already joined the long list of people who are being eliminated by a government determined to do away with those that they consider to be "undesirable." Signed and shared!

Not signed. I hate it when people, who don't really know the facts but hear a cute cause and then react, want to create even more injustice by imposing hate speech on the officers and the police department.
