Yes, I saw this horrific video the other day, and fortunately people are rightfully outraged. There are a several petitions floating around, and I saw a post where people can send emails to kswain@cityofhawthorne.org. Max was just trying to reach his caretaker. That was all. The reasonable solution here was to let him escort his dog back to the car. Simple Simple ! But in pure FASCIST mentality - the police escalated the situation by reacting strongly to the presence of the dog. One more situation that could have been handled calmly - HOW frightening it is when we have officers of the law that are incapable of handling situations in a calm and thoughtful way !

I saw nothing in the video of the dog lunging. I did the dog try to reach his human.

I saw this on FB earlier with the video and it reduced me to a bawling mess.

There was no reason for the police to shoot and kill the dog, what the HELL is going on with the police nowadays, they just take out their guns and shoot at anyone!

Poor doggy!
By reading the posts here it seems everyone in the US is well aware the police will usually react impatiently & with arms, why then was this man so openly strutting around & filming them, to me he looked like he was openly provoking them, i can't understand why anyone would want to film officers while they're making an arrest.

I agree with AniMaeChi. The owner brought this on the dog. The police reacted improperly. The only innocent one died. The police are bullies and I'm beginning to be afraid of them. thank you, Genoveva, and thank you Deb for forwarding.

These despicable sobs should be lined up and used for target practice. This poor dog was only doing what was right. That did not give these trigger happy morons the bloody right to kill him.

Thanks for sharing Genoveva. For this issue I've already signed several petitions. Personally I think that some cops are simply dangerous, not only for animals but also for humans. This is a cop and he should be trained to keep up with certain situations, if he thinks that he can solve everything by shooting you or an animal just because, better he changes profession.

Thanks Genoveva. Signed and will pass on to friends. I couldn't see the point in watchng the video as it is just flling our minds up with yet MORE horrifying sad and horrible things. What IS wrong with the world today? If ONLY police could begin to act as if their job was to protect people and animals.. i am sure that half of them only go into the police force because they are sociopaths and just love to have the excuse to use their guns.... My screen froze when I got into the site to see if there was a petition... I will find another link to sign a petiton and forward to friends.

Noted and singed the C2 pet.
Will not watch the video though, as it shows the dog's (unnecessary) death, the thought of which is disturbing enough by itself...
Judging from the description, it is a case of abuse of power on the part of the policeman who overreacted to the dog's approach after having arrested the man for no good reason. The dog was obviously trying to defend his human friend, whom he must have thought of as threatened by the policemen. What befell him was more than unfortunate, as a weapon happened to be in the wrong hands yet again, in the hands of a person who did not think twice before using it, who did not bother to think of a nonviolent solution first. There should be punitive steps taken against the offender--this officer--, especially because what was a dead dog this time can easily turn into a dead person next time -- something that may not come as a surprise, particularly in the case of a person who is so quick to shoot...

These cops went and harressed a man simply for taking pictures which every human has the right to do. The dog, trying to look after his owner merely jumped out of the car but at no time did the dog EVER bite. He barked and then was calm and yet the Police that it was okay to shoot an innocent non threatening dog and harress a civilian who was doing nothing wrong. I hope they charge all of the police officers involved with animal cruelty and abuse, false arrest and I hope that man whose dog was shot sues the city and the police department and he wins. Nothing about this was right. Cops are getting to much power to harm and hurt innocent people and animals. It's time to hold them accountable. This is not the police dept. that I would trust to protect me. Shame on you!

If this had been an episode of the Andy Griffith Show, Barney would've shot himself in the foot but dam, the poor dog! I wish it were legal to for the citizens to do the same to the cop!! Too angry, thnx Genoveva for the post and NICKY for the fwd :(

Maybe the citizens ought to make a cop arrest, or what is commonly called a "Citizens Arrest"

Noted. If anyone is reading comments before reading and watching the video, it REALLY IS very disturbing to watch. God help us. What struck me (and I am 'white') is that the videographers (please allow my license here) sounded 'white' in their speech and language choices as they gave background comments to each other about the group of police cars, etc., the cops were 'white', all shocked people after the shooting were 'white', the dog owner, put in handcuffs wasn't (I still don't know why he was put in handcuffs - the videographers weren't spoken to or cuffed). A bit of a pattern here, folks. And I'm sick of it!!!

The awful trend of cops shooting innocent dogs, along with racist or other unwarranted intimidation that their human companions may be subjected to is going to have to stop! Please sign the C2 petition Justice for Max the Dog -- Shot by Police in Hawthorne, CA.

I can't watch the video, but I can imagine a Rottweiler defending his owner, many breeds will do that. But that doesn't mean they need die because of it. There were lots of non-lethal ways of handling that. I wish they'd chosen one of those.
