Lucy Mashua comes from South Kenya, from a Maasai family. Today, the 30-years old woman lives in Dallas where, after a long Odysse, she found a new home. At age of nine, she became a victim of female genital mutilation, at age of twelve, she was sold to a 53-year old man, did escape from him - and dedicated herself already at age of 21 to the protection of girls from genital mutilation. Countless girls she helped to flee from this violence. Several times, she has been arrested, raped and tortured by the Clan-chefs - but imperturbably she continued to fight for the most fundamental rights of women and children - especially the fight for an end of FGM. About these practices she says: "Every year, thousands of girls and women die from female genital mutilation - if this is not genocide, what is it then?" ... "I want to be a voice for the voiceless" Lucy claims and raises her voice - strong, consequent and imperturbable. Lucy Mashua supports our campaign to protect sponsored girl-children in projects of German and International development agencies.

Lucy, why did you decide to support a campaign which aims to protect girls who are marketed as “sponsored girls” by organisations like PLAN Interna-tional, WorldVision, Kindernothilfe and ChildFund Germany from becoming victims of Female Genital Mutilation?
Lucy: ...Because those organisations obviously don't care about the well be-ing of the young girls - but maybe more the large amount of cash flow to fat-ten their pockets.
Isn’t it a big progress and help already, when the girls get vaccinations or access to clean water or the possibility to go to school – even when they are not protected from FGM?
Lucy: .....No, how can you give someone vaccination and clean water access when they are in pain and their vagina's cut open and rotting from inside? How can someone in pain really enjoy vaccination and clean water?
Why is it so important that the girls are protected from violence like Female Genital Mutilation?
Lucy: .....Because its their fundamental right! And no discussion.
What do you think, what is the reason why the mentioned organisations fail to actively demand and guarantee the girl’s most fundamental rights to bod-ily integrity and dignity?
Lucy: ... As I said they might care more about the money, not the girls
What does this campaign mean for you personally?
Lucy:.....It's personal to me because I live to tell

We have the power to make the world we seek, but only if we have the courage to make a new beginning!
The WHO and the UN as well as all the organisations are just watching....we MUST STOP FGM! Its possible and we don't need generations.......FGM can be over and done with in less than 5 years!

MUTILATORS AND FRIENDS OF MUTILATORS! Stop FGM!
It's pointlesss to negotiate with anyone not to mutilate your vagina or your daughters, sister, mother, friend even young girls you don't know and women around the globe...I don't see how you will beg for someone not to mutilate your clitoris or stitch up your vagina or your daughters even your worst enemy's!
Gone are the days that we hoped this would change after years of organisations getting funds to combat FGM fruitless because they are friends and sympathizers of mutilators ..oooh..we have to approach this matter in a polite way its the custom and culture so as they say..who are you kidding? tell it to the girl who has been mutilated! for heavenly sake this is a GENOCIDE OF VAGINAS! or WITCH HUNTING OF CLITORIS!
I refuse to beg or negotiate with a mutilator not to mutilate girls and women anymore! now we get to nitty and gritty we are after you .you either STOP or FACE JAIL! and for the organisations that are friends and supporters of mutilators you will perish with them!
We are not going to beg for our God given humanrights!!

http://www.facebook.com/Avaaz Become a fan and tell AVAAZ how you think about this statement made by RICKEN PATEL the founder of AVAAZ
Ricken Patels Quote on Female Genital Mutilation: To be honest, I don't think this issue is going to beat out climatechange, afghanistan, poverty etc for our members, so it's unlikelywe'll be campaigning on it soon. What do you think... how do the more than 3 Million Girls feel about this kind of support by AVAAZ?
