When I read the petition could not leave my astonishment. This law is an aberration that goes against human rights: freedom of choice. And I know well all the constitutional amendments of their country, but surely strikes one of the most important. It is possible that no one can be jailed for enrolling a child in a school in another county. If the law does not violate anyone was arbitrary. We must quickly modify such laws.

I remember seeing this story earlier. The truth is, she didn't get sentenced for "sending her son to school", she got sentenced for selling drugs (twice).

[Judge] Iannotti retorted Tuesday that the Norwalk case had nothing to do with why McDowell was before him.
"This case is about the convictions for the sale of narcotics to an undercover police officer," the judge said. "I think you understand that because that is really the essence of what has gotten you into the predicament you find yourself today."

Her putting her son in a school that she didn't have a right to enroll him in was incidental.

Regarding the previous comment about what the real causal why this woman went to prison just wrote ForgeChange the organization so that would confirm what the real causal. I do not think this organization is pushing a measure that has not previously investigated. I also thank the intention because it is good.

Bettina's link takes you to the article posted by ForceChange, but their article contains a link to the original post from MailOnline, an e-mag from UK. That article does mention the mother's narcotics sales and the fact that the length of sentencing includes her guilty pleas for those charges. But if she was arrested and tried to this school registration violation as additional punishment for selling drugs, then the charge is even more ludicrous! Get real - selling drugs in a punishable offense (even then, jail time is not always the wisest solution) but enrolling your kid is a school outside your district....ha! Give her a decent job and let her "pay back" what she "stole" from the school district. In the meantime, give her kudos for making sure her son gets a decent education!

I just sent an email to me ForceChange to verify the authenticity of the reasons why this woman was jailed for five years, it seems that for reasons of child's enrollment in another county but by selling drugs, if they wish may withdraw his signature while I verify. This happens because I get a comment to the publication of these would be the reasons. A hug and thanks for always being there.

At my request when I went to ForceChange not redirected to any article, as it happened. Just asked my group of friends who would verify the information for them to know what they were signing.

Reading the comments of one person here I read the article and read it I do not understand the order of ForceChange whatever you reduce the penalty on drug sales penalty to which is added the registration of your son. But ask for the registration of a mother to a school outside their county. And because even the link to the original story included within the petition did not seem appropriate because most do not read the internal links and only the title and the petition. Terminanado well be misleading information. For that same reason send a message to my group of friends to read the entire petition before signing it.

I agree that he should allow this person to your child inscibir anywhere in the country if deemed appropriate and it does seem ridiculous that the penalized for that reason. Also argue that section is not clear to people of good will who read the title to sign without reading all the information. Therefore advised to read everything. Not everyone thinks the same and they should know that they are signing.

About the petition

The application to sign for the item
Release Woman Imprisoned for Sending Her Son to School - ForceChange

I ask that before you do read even the link that carries information that is based on that request stating that his conviction was for selling drugs to an undercover officer, to which is added as an aggravating factor the fact that she has given a false address to enroll your child in a school outside the county belonged to him.

I agree that it is ridiculous that it has been exacerbated by the fact worth wanting to enroll your child in another county, but people who sign should read all the information. Not everyone thinks like we usually do and also confidence in who sends the information within our group of friends. The latter firm can make something unintentionally not AGREE. So send them to stop signing the petition before reading all the information and I in turn asked to confirm the news to ForceChange. A hug to everyone.

Well, I think that selling drug and child school enrolling are two differnt things, I see no connection between the two... The petition text is about the latter. Was she condemned twice, one for selling drug and once for wrong school enrolling? This is what I assume, now...

read and noted on 3-17-13 since when is it a crime to send your child or children to school if i understand the law it states that no child will be left behind which too me says they are entitled to a school education we use to have the highest levels of drop out rates i do not know if those numbers are going down, but at this rate if we continue down this road the numbers will climb .

She was ALSO convicted for sell drugs. That's what I understood. It's means that, even if she's pardoned for send her kid for another county she will pay some time in jail. It an unfortunate that we don't have any program to treat people like her, and they end up going to prison.

Whatever else she may have done, and she should indeed pay the penalty for any such crime if true, that should have no impact on the education offered her child, who had nothing to do with her offense! I support her sending her child wherever the best education is available; she should not be imprisoned for it, and certainly not for 5 years, not for that. As I said, other crimes are another matter, unfortunately.

signed, sealed, etc. please note that she received 7 years for the drug charges but an additional 5 years for stealing 15,000+ worth of education ... neither of whci would have happened, IMO, if she had looked like, for example, Sarah Palin.

Shame on Connecticut, she should be free to chose any school she likes for her son. Selling drugs is another thing and must not be tolerated.

Why don't Care2 and FORCE CHANGE, cut the crap and tell the TRUTH in these article rather than passing off false information under inaccurate, bull shit headlines.
Yes, this woman was prosecuted for making a false claim about where she lived so her child could go to a school other than the one he should rightfully attended. Not exactly the crime of the century, but still illegal though it is unlikely more than a few hours of the sentence is for this.
She really got the 12 year sentence for being a vile NARCOTICS Dealer, who in a plea bargain, pleaded guilty to four counts of sale of narcotics, which probably means she had been a drug pusher for many years and had sold narcotics dozens if not hundreds of times. Unfortunately the court saw fit to let her off very lightly by suspending more than half the jail time and replacing it with just 5 years probation.
I believe she really wanted her kid to go to the better school, as she could have sold even more drugs at a higher price to a more well heeled population there.
When caught and sentenced, DRUG dealers including this creature, irrespective of their age, sex, colour, social & employment status or financial situation, should receive a one way ticket to hell, via the electric chair.

Hey Syd ... the id(iot). Perhaps you might learn how to read. She got 7 years for drugs and 5 years for theft of $15000 worth of free education.

Put a lid on your anger (and your mouth) and get a brain
