This petition is very questionable for a number of reasons. "I CALL ON CARE2 TO ISSUE THE SOURCE OF THEIR INFORMATION Rebels making children carry weapons and participate in attack missions are just as horrendous as rogue military attacks on civilians"

Especially because the SO called rebels are the ones standing for their rights. It's like here in the US and around the WORLD how they call the 911 truth movement and it's followers TERRORIST, just like Occupy are now considered the TERRORIST or anti government radicals. NOW WE ARE JUST PISSED OFF our rights are being hijacked. So yes I do see exactly what your are pointing out. TY vivien

13,682 have signed the petition. And, I have to admit; -I signed it yesterday...without reading it first, I should have of course! Wish I could delete my signature, but that's not possible, is it?

What the hell is Care2 doing to create a petition like this?
I also could not believe that it asks the following of a government Regime that is slaughtering children daily:

"As fighting intensifies in Syria, the government needs to put their foot down on civilian attacks and punish those who make children pawns in battle"
What evidence do they have that the FSA are forcing children to fight?

The Assad regime are daily slaughtering children there is plenty of evidence of this. They are saying that Assad lacks military control and it is rogue military attacks (implying that Assad is not responsible) that are responsible for the carnage
This petition is asking a government that allows the slaughter of children to put their foot down on people who make pawns of children in their battle ????????? THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT ASSAD'S GOVERNMENT IS DOING.
What exactly do Care2 think that the Assad regime is doing have they not read the facts?

Maybe we need a petition for more scrupulous petitions on Care2.

Ben and Alicia it happens we just read so far and we then sign.
However you can have your name removed on the petition, the sponsor's name, which is a link to his/her email.
You need to write that person, saying that you'd like your name removed. It is their responsibility to do so.
I wuld ask anybody who has signed this in error to do this p;ease.

Thanks Viv, you are quite right, the petition is extremely badly worded, and I am appalled that Care2 has let this go out in their name.

I did not sign it at the time I received the notification about it because I wasn't happy with the wording.
I should have written to them about it, but what with one thing and another, I didn't. I'm glad that you have drawn people's attention to it, and I hope that they will either edit or remove it soon.

As you pointed out, it is ludicrous to call on the Assad regime to punish 'those responsible', when most observers blame them for most of the anti-civilian violence.
As for the allegations against the rebels made in the petition, that they are forcing children into combat - it is irresponsible journalism not to cite a source for an allegation as serious as this.
One does not expect this from Care2.

All that was needed here was a petition calling on both sides to take care of the children of Syria, and I'm sure that most of the 14000 plus who signed this thought that's what they were signing.

Wow, what a petition!! and what a shame that anyone would even consider this utter rubbish. I have been working as an activist for the Syrian revolution and find this petition very hurtful!! The Syrian people are in NO WAY using children in the FSA, a few pictures of children holding a gun after their parents have been massacred, wrong I agree, but in no way means children are being involved in ANY WAY in the FSA's fight for freedom!! This is a great mistake, and I will be rallying today to make sure that this petition is removed. It's completely wrong information, and sadly gives an impression to the world that only Bashar's murderous Regime could possibly benefit from, Info from the Regime????? Possible in my opinion, and us activists DEMAND an explanation!!!!!

A petition to stop Bashar's daily massacre of children would be much more appropriate, snipers shooting children even trying to escape the non-stop bombardment of civilian areas, Assads bombardment of refugee camps a few days ago..a petition about that?? Children dying of the cold in the refugee camps in Jordan, 5 so far!! a petition about that??? This is unacceptable in my opinion, and must be stopped. I had respect for this organization, but thy need to get their facts right, and there are so many petitions that should be created, THIS ISN'T ONE OF THEM!!

This petition should be taken off the net. It is poorly written and the news source was taken at face value, if it was read at all. How this petition came to be "Sponsored by Care2" is a question only Care2 and the writer can answer and so they should. To send any petition on the net about any issue, and particularly one where thousands of lives could be detrimentally affected, without substantial evidence is plain irresponsible. In an incident such as this as a result of a politically motivated war, the truth is hard to pin down. The obvious is that too many people in and outside Syria have vested interests in this war and it needs to be questioned and answered what this war is really all about.

There are plenty of justifiable speculations, but guesswork and irrational responses should not take place. A petition demanding an end to this war addressed to the UN and NATO would have been better placed than seeking the safety of children in a war zone where no party cares who or what dies in the process. This petition condones the legitimacy of this bloody war and every other war. Having said this, neither the UN nor NATO can be expected to do anything about it. Perhaps the UNHRC should for once step up its pressure on the UN and tell them to come clean on their 1948 declaration and act instead of writing nice words on pretty pieces of paper. Whatever, this petition has to go and disappear out of sight as if it never existed, now, not later.

Thank you Bob well said the only thing I disagree with is that neither side care. The FSA are fighting the military and do care about the men women and children that are either dying dead or injured.
The Syrian Government on the other hand don't give a damn about who gets killed. They are slaughtering their own people.

signatures: 0
deadline: ongoing
signature goal: 20,000

I see that C2 has removed ALL signatures. I assume your outcry has worked. Petition is still open from what I can see, so read before signing anything. one should be able to change the wording once petition has been signed unless signators have been notified.

Now the signatures are back. going on? I left this information on another thread of it being 0 someone said it had signatures. I give up. Sorry if I caused any confusion, but I know what I saw is why I copied it above.

When someone or an organization places, puts a petition in C2, the petition should be "LOCKED" in its original wording. In that way of locking it, the petition cannot be changed nor altered once it goes public to be read and, if so desired with approval of signer, signed.

Care2 must find a way to do this immediately. Locking the petitions! There is too much at stake here for all concerned in matters of petitions and integrity.

Hi Dandelion, I also get that a lot. Then when I refresh the page, the signatures reappear, it's very annoying.

I agree, Jim. In this case it was Care2's own petition - and they should never have changed it without stating so on the petition itself. I'm sure it's easy enough to lock down petitions after they are posted - if Care2 wanted to do so, but they say they do not interfere in activist petitions.

Vivien Green (153)

No body not even the sponsor should be able to alter a petition once people start signing it.
It is easy to make mistakes when creating a petition. Maybe petitions should not go live for an hour or so to make allowances for corrections after that lock down.
at present any sponsor can alter a petition at any time once it has been created.

Thanks Zen and Vivien for bringing this to our attention. What is going on in Care2? How are we suppose to know what to sign and what not. Care2 should do something about this like in yesterday! Luckily I haven't signed this one. Will be much more cautious from now on.
