A great American Hero has died today. The truth is he is the worlds hero. He truly went where no one had gone before.

I was in my early 20's when Neil walked the moon.
I did not realize the significence of what he did
until some years later.
Ideed he was a good man.

Wherever you go there once was a forest.
And, somewhere there would be a man who would walk a treeless planet.
Plant & protect Danny's & Mr. Armstrong's trees for life.
Trees are the lungs of the earth.

How many starving children did he feed, how many homeless did he shelter, how many wars did he work to stop?

I was 9 yrs old back in 1969 and we had a stereo TV that picked up three channels; ABC, NBC, and CBS. Although it was colored TV the transmission from outter space was weak, so the picture came through as B&W. Many years later, my father met Neil Armstrong and he autographed a business card and my father gave it to me. Lord only knows where it is now! TY Dave....

I remember that very exciting night - I was young - but now, let's take care of this planet before we try landing on other far away ones, we might not have a place to take off from if we continue to destroy our environment the way we have been doing!!

I hope in September, teachers across this country will acknowledge this man and explain what a powerful symbol of America he is.

If one is of a certain age one can't help recall that day in history when the first man walked on the moon. I think we all had our hearts in our throats. He will go down in history as being that man, no one can remove that fact from his life. Condolences to his family.

Sad, but the truth is that if America truly valued humility, Michael Collins would get the respect he deserves too.

Sad to hear, our whole family watched the landing on tv in our living room. historic as hell of course. Not only that but hearing him speak from so far away on the moon no less. One giant leap fo technology too.

I remember watching the moon landing on TV live. I was 8 years old and my folks let me stay up late to watch it.

Fare well Neil Armstrong. You will be remembered and honored.

I understand he also was an activist. He didn't sit on his laurels or in his rocket (oops) rocking chair. Now he is on the great adventure seeing what is on in "the other side". RIP, Dude!

Truly a sad loss. I would like to remind everyone the recent passing of Werner von Braun. Without him there would have been no Saturn V. to take Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon.

He was such a wonderful man!

My grandfather had the honor to be his friend and also share some political events.
I remember a cocktail party given at my grandfather's house when I was little and remember clearly that they dressed me up for this...a velvet dress that I will never forget.

I also remember they gave me a puppy around the same time and I was so impressed by Armstrong that I named him "Neil Armstrong"...everyone thought it was cute and funny!

I remember watching that on TV at school as a child. We accept men on the moon now as an everyday occurrence but back then it was a truly unbelievable occurrence. He will always be an American hero. RIP.
