Overriding Western objections, a 150-nation nuclear conference on Friday passed a resolution directly criticizing Israel and its atomic program for the first time in 18 years.

It seems to be fashionable to have nuclear, and atomic energy.... I think the world is to unstable at the moment to havae all of these dangerous energy sources around with some Mr Nasties and some Mr Good people around..

Can you imagine the havoc if nuclear/atomic energy are used by the warlords, and your sons are on the frontline, while they are well protected from danger.

"Western diplomats had expressed hope on Thursday that a vote could again be avoided after the meeting adopted a resolution calling for a Mideast free of nuclear weapons in a near-consensus vote. One hundred delegations voted for, with only Israel against and 14 abstentions."

every country has these horrors. even the US. why is that the US can have nucluar weapons but no one else? if nucluar weapons should be banned, shouldnt all countries have to ban them?

it will be the most horrific end if anyone ever uses these terrible weapons of destruction.

it is not just the nucluar weapons that scare me but the chemical weapons that are even more deadly and that will cause even more suffering and tragedy.

If Arab countries decided to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, to drop their hate-propaganda and to live in peace with her, Israel probably could consider such a step. Until then - Israeli nukes hold off Iran, Syria and many others.

In response to the comment by Sleeping Beauty.....

Uh.........this may be ridiculously obvious, but apparently it needs stating:

NONE of those countries has ever attacked Israel.

NONE of those countries has ever said they would attack Israel.

NONE of those countries have any reason to attack Israel.

and

NONE of those countries is suicidal enough to attack Israel because they know the U.S. would retaliate.

Those facts do away with your statement about how you feel they should be allowed to have nukes (even though the US says any nuclear nation that is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty must give them up), so why don't you enlighten us as to what "hate-propaganda" you speak of?

Sleeping Beauty (1)

Syria was shelling Israel for years from Golan Heights. Iraq under Saddam bombed Israel by SKUDs. Iran promises to annihilate Israel. Egypt's Naser lead Arab armies in 67. Enough for NONE.

"NONE of those countries is suicidal enough to attack Israel because they know the U.S. would retaliate. "? Really? US and Israel don't have a mutual defence pact and Israel not a part of NATO. That means, that Israel is on her own and has to ensure it can stand to all the Arab armies together.

Under Hate Propaganda I mean shows and stories repeatedly circulatied in Arab media, depicting Jews and Israelis as monsters, inciting to kill Jews anywhere to earn Paradize, to destroy Israel, etc.

It's not whether Israel has them or not. Everyone knows Israel has nukes and had them for years. Israel's nukes are not what's driving the current rush to nuke up. Saudia Arabia and Egypt are reacting to a Sunni-Shia problem. I would guess more Sunni's have been killed by Shia and vice versa than ever killed in an Israeli-Arab conflict. This is a centuries old blood feud and as both sides believe in this martyr thing then it's a reason for everyone to get nervous.

To Sleeping Beauty: Yes, you are sleeping. Why would any Arab country recognize Israel until she stopped buidling new settlements? Would you recognize someone who was stealing from you? Why not stop building, stop bulldozing and harassing, and negotiate? But Israel never does anything that will not better Israel in the end.... Right and wrong are concepts that don't exist with Israelies. MIlitary power, nuclear weopons and the tacit approval from the US is all that Israel needs to keep expanding.
Sleeping Beauty: name those years that Syria was shelling. Was Isreal occuping Palestine and Lebanon at the time. Please get real. If you invade my house, my land, my anything... I have the right to fight back. What you are saying that Israel has the right to take away but the Araba have NO RIGHTS to fight back. GET REAL!!!!

Sleeping Beauty (1)
Monday September 21, 2009, 5:40 pm
Robert, the question is who is stealing from whom. According to the international law, the land taken from agressor by the defending country becomes his, and therefore Israel as much entitled to keep lands taken from Jordan and Egypt (West Bank and Gaza) as Russians are entitled to Kenigsberg. I think Israel must be not only only country giving some land for Palestinians - Jordan and Egypt too.

You say that all Arab countries care about Palestinian Arabs so much that they don't want to recognize Israel before peace is achieved? Then why all these states are not protesting now, when Jordan strips tens of thousands of them from citizenship? Whey don't they protest Syria and Lebanon, holding the very same Palestinians in refugee camps without basic human rights? They they didn't protest Iraq and Quwait expelling Palestinians by tens of thousands?

See, Robert: Arab countries don't care about Palestinians they just want to destroy Israel and Palestinians is a good pretext. And that's why Israel needs nukes.

Listen to yourself Sleeping Beauty.... The Arabs are the aggressors? While Israel keeps taking away? Listen to your logic? Israel is neutral (while taking land away?). Under your rules (international law... you sound like a lawyer) land taken away is okay... I'll come over and check the laws in your area and take what I can... What about justice? What about what is right in God's eyes? The Palestinians attacking Israel? They have the right to fight back. YOU DENY THAT?

Sleeping Beauty (1)
Monday September 21, 2009, 6:54 pm
Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Co attacked Israel in 67 under Naser, so Arab states were the agressors. As they lost the war and some lands, it was OK by the international law by Israel to keep those lands. As I said, Russia, Poland and Czechs still keep lands chopped off from Germany after WWII, and Germany does not protest or claim them back. If the whole world says it is a justice there, it surely is justice here.

If you come to my land and try to take it, you are risking YOUR land, Robert. This law was made so that people thought twice before attacking their neighbours. That's justice.

Israel captured lands from Jordan and Egypt. while palestinians demand lands only from Israel. Why? They live in Jordan - 60% of the population. They live in Syria and Lebanon. Why don't they claim lands from them too?

Sleeping Beauty: I have noticed that you use the name of Palestine, meaning that you know and admit that there is a country called Palestine. The Palestinians who are in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and other countries in the world are refuges and the International laws according to the Geneva Convention, and the UN resolution 194 state that they have the right of return. Obviously it seems you are talking about imaginary international laws which do not exist.

Sleeping Beauty (1)
Tuesday September 22, 2009, 5:25 am
Hadi, I assume you use names like Europe or Africa, though you know that no country with such names exists. There was no country called Palestine either - that's the name of the region in the ME.

UN resolution 194 calls for just solution for the refugees, and it applies to both Arab and Jewish refugees equally. It does not guarantee re-settlement programs, compensation also qualifies. And remind you, there was more Jewish refugees (750,000) from Arab countries that Arab refugees (600,000) from Israel.

Thanks Robert E. Sleeping beauty seems to sleeping.Go back to all International press on June 6,1967 and read what the President of France said about the Israeli attack against Egypt,Syrian and Jordan. The man said it very clear that Israel started the attack. The US indirectly helped Israel in 1967.Do you remember the US warship that was in the Egyptian/ Palestinian regional waters spying for the benefit for Israel and was bombed by the Israeli bombers later to remove any proof of the involvement of USA.Israel is not alone.Remember the immediate and intensive military supplies it received in October 1973 when both Syria and Egypt were liberating their occupied territories without which Israel would have been conquered .Are you talking about International law? Good. International law gives the right to the people under occupation to fight the occupation forces and when they use this right they are called terrorists!!!! Aren't the UN resolutions a part of the International law. Where are UN general assembly resolutions about the Palestinian question . Who supported Israel all the time before the UN Security Council and voted against any resolution against Israel and in many cases used to VETO any fair decision. Please wake up sleeping beauty .VIVA PALASTINA

Your bias is showing. You need to at least TRY to understand the truth and history of this area. Sleeping Beauty is right with all the facts presented. YOU will not accept truth and that is sad. ALL of the Arab countries have rejected these Arabs ! THAT is where the problem lies. THAT always has been, still is and always will be, the ROOT of the problem. Israelis have given THEIR birthright land for PEACE and it has NEVER worked and never will. They cannot give anymore. I do not have the time nor do I care to try to explain history and facts to minds that are cemented within the propaganda machine of hate, instead of minds that seek truth. Truly pathetic! It appears to those of us who are peace lovers that you support Hamas terrorism that includes using their own people, women and children, as human Shields. Where is your protest agains that fact? Where is your humanity and love for your people? Hamas = hate and murder!!!!!!

Mike Su, well said.

Abdessalem, at the time Israel was getting military supplies from US, Egypt, Syria and others Arab countries were getting more supplies from Communist Russia and didn't even have to pay for it. Russia just recently forgave Syria 8 BILLION $$ which Syria owed for the military supplies since 70s.

There was an undeclared formula set for the Jewish emmigration policy in Russia: for each Jew or family emmigrating to Israel, one of the Arab states got one tank. Quite a high opinion about effectiveness of a single Jew, isn't it? And somebody got quite a few tanks. LOL.

VIVA PALESTINA, including all of its states/territories: Egypt, Gaza, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and the West Bank. VIVA NORTH AMERICA, including USA, CANADA and MEXICA. VIVA EUROPE... VIVA SOUTH AMERICA.

Sleeping Beauty, and Mike Su, It is really a fantasy an imaginary world you are living in and making up stories, and dressing them as facts. First of all you should not accuse any one of something without bases, according to all UN resolutions 194...onward, Israel clearly labeled and identified as the aggressor and as an occupation force which has to obey by the Geneva convention, which as a fact Israel never did that. I think both of you have to go beck and review your history and comeback to us with documented facts and references. Meanwhile I give you a tip please Watch this video, listen to the song by Richard A Siegel (a Jewish, Israeli)and the commentary afterwards which explains the whole conflict the link is:

I AGREE.

BAN ALL NUKES, ESPECIALLY THE MIDDLE EAST.

I lve here and extremism is getting worse, Jewish & Muslim extemism, radicalism and hatred.
Negative thougths everywhere, and the tension is starting to become tangible.

I think it is scary that our Israeli government (a rightwing, racist, pro-free trade - always hand in hand: prejudice and free trade) have access to a nuclear arsinal.

Also note: today''s ammunition is full with depleted uranium, and if the attack on Iran goes ahead, Bunker Buster Bombs will be used (also nuclear).
Also note that most of the military ammunition and equipment is manufactured in - and exported by - the U.S.A.

It seems to me that you are talking about the" promised land" and you are actually denying the the right of the Palestinians in their own land.I am not a pro Hamas person. But I am for sure a pro free and independent Palestinian State on the Palestinian land.I am against the Israeli occupation and pro Liberation Movement that terminates the occupation.I am pro the Palestinians resistance movement which is legitimate according to International law. From this prospect Hamas and PLO are liberation movements. The Israelis are the ones who are full of hatred against Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular.I am asking you where is your feelings against killing the Palestinian civilians and children? Don't blame people who tried for years to free their land through negotiations and were forced to shift to other means as long as the Israelis are still building settlements on their land and trying to change the demographic facts. Israelis should know that the occupation and peace can't live together. May God lead you to tell the truth.

Abdessalem, the problem is that the land you are referring it to is not Arab, it is Jewish by all rules of law. It is called The State of Israel in The Land of Israel, a.k.a. Palestine.

The state of Israel goes back 3,000 years. There was never a state called Palestine. By UN definition, any migrant worked who lived 2 years prior before 1948 is considered a Palestinian and is paid as a refugee by UN. It is stupid and has nothing to do with either justice or with common sense.

You know, peace is needed not only by Israelis - Arabs need it too, and probably even more. So don't demand consessions from Israel only - you won't get them. The road to peace is through compromise and tolerance. Hamas is preaching hate against Jews, whlie Arabs live in Israel peacefully and enjoy the same rights as Jewish Israelis.

You won't comment why Syria and Lebanon keep Palestinians in refugee concentration camps, will you?

Abdessalam Diab (39)

You,sleeping beauty, might have forgotten that between WW1 and WW11Hundreds of thousand of Jews were immigrated from around the world to "Palestine under mandate".The British occupation government, responsible then, gave all the facilities together with the Jewish agency for those IMMIGRANTS to settle in Palestine.Yes may be there weren't a Palestinian state But the Palestinians lived there thousands of years under the byzantine Empire, the Arabs and then under the Ottoman Empire. We can't relay on that to deny the Palestinians to have their own state otherwise we may say that there wasn't a USA two hundred something years ago.
The Zionist terrorist gangs forced Palestinians to leave their homes and land to be refugees in Syria and Lebanon where they have help from both countries as guests till they return to their homes and land in application of the UN resolution 194.Both countries facilitated their education generation after the other. They are not responsible for the misery they are living in.The responsible is the Israeli terrorist gangs (Hagan-ah and others) and the Zionism . Believe me Israel is not ready for peace. The Israelis know very well that if peace prevails there will not be a state so called "Israel".The only thing that unites the Israelis now is their hatred to Arabs.

Thank you Sleeping Beauty,

You articulate the facts better than anyone I have read anywhere. You speak the truth, while mindsets like Abdessalam, Hadi, and NotSilent SpeakTheTruth live in a fantasy world of inaccuracies. In some cases they are deliberate lies, while in others, some are biased and/or misinformed. ???"NONE of those countries has ever attacked Israel" ??? Anyone who can make this outrageously false statement reveals the ignorance that prevails in these posts. In 1947, Israel was attacked and threatened with annihilation from day ONE!!! The UN declaration stated that the Arabs and Jewish people must share the land. The Jewish People agreed, while the Arabs DISagreed and stated with the infamous historical words, "WE WILL BURY YOU!" They have been trying ever since. EVERY war with Israel has been started by an Arab country OR terrorist group!! That is fact!

I have commented on other posts regarding this issue and have found so much misinformation and ignorance with regard to revisionist history in this part of the world. We are wasting our time trying to open and educate closed minds. We are dealing with unreasonable people who refuse to acknowledge the history of the area. In historical reality, this land has been the Jewish Homeland for over 3000 years. These naysayers are in denial of the historical facts and nothing we say will ever penetrate the mindset of ignorance. I applaud your efforts, but our attempts to educate uninformed people only result in frustration. Their efforts to revise the facts of this area are refuted by historical facts they refuse to acknowledge. One cannot extract blood from a stone. Personally, as a result of all the lies and hypocrisy, I no longer respond to these people. Generally, debate is a good exchange, but nothing about the destruction of historical truth can accomplish anything of value. Thank you for your honest and generous efforts.

Sleeping Beauty,

One more comment. Anyone who is honestly in search of truth should read Wallid Shoebat, former terrorist under Yasser Arafat AND Brigitte Gabriel, formerly from Lebanon, a Christian Arab living in the USA, who speaks in praise of Israel for having saved her family's life and in general speaking against ALL the misinformation being strewn about. Arab Citizens living in Israel have all the same rights, freedoms and privileges as ALL Israelis. FACT!! Truth is on our side. Hope is for those in denial to read the websites below. Hope is always good, but in this case, it does seem remote to hope the deniers of truth would take the time to read the facts contained in the websites below.

Pro-Israel Arabs on American Speaking Tour
Published: 04/01/05, 12:45 PM / Last Update: 04/01/05, 1:59 PM

(IsraelNN.com) These two events are part of a pro-Israel campaign by several Arab expatriates living in the United States. They work with the foundation of Walid Shoebat, a pro-Israel Bethlehem-born Arab whose grandfather was friendly with the German dictator who directed the butchering of six million Jews.

Shoebat (not his real name) was in Jericho during the Six-Day War in 1967, which ended with Israel's liberation from Jordan and Egypt of Judea, Samaria and Gaza. He freely states that he was a terrorist in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) before moving to the United States to continue his anti-Israel activities. When he started studying the Bible, however, as part of an effort to convert his Christian wife to Islam, "I realized everything I had been taught about Jews was a lie." Since then, Shoebat has become an outspoken advocate for Israel.

His appearance in Philadelphia next week is sponsored by the Jerusalem-based Yeshiva Aish HaTorah organization. "The sponsors of the event in Philadelphia…placed a huge billboard on the main highway about two miles from downtown Philly," he says. "The Arab apologists of terror are furious and are calling the usual racist slurs. Their protests will help us get more media attention and we shall win over people to the side of the truth. We will see how the people of Philadelphia will identify with Israel," Shoebat asserts.

Another pro-Israel Arab, Salma Abdallah, names her admiration for Golda Meir and her childhood friendship with Jews as two of the reasons for her outrage at Arab leaders. When she was nine years old and growing up in Haifa, Abdallah recalls that her role model was Golda Meir, Israel's first and only woman prime minister.'

"My next door neighbor was a Holocaust survivor," she adds. "Freedom of expression… was part of our daily lives." After moving to the United States, "it was the freedom of choice" in Israel that influenced her to campaign for Israel.

"The Palestinian refugee problem and the escalation of the Palestinian situation [are] largely the fault of the Arab world, not Israel," she tells her audiences, such as the orthodox synagogue in Baltimore that will host her ten days from now.

"Palestinians from all over the world have contacted me," Salma says, "and told me that they wanted to say the same things, but didn’t have the courage to speak out. I was surprised that I received such a positive response to something that was largely denied by other Arabs."

Many Arabs try to prevent the pro-Israel Arabs from appearing. An Illinois community college recently demanded that the sponsors of an appearance by Shoebat put up $5,000 for security costs - even though the college bylaws provide that the college must pay for security under such circumstances. The sponsors collected the money and Shoebat appeared as scheduled.

Great comment Gorilly Girl. I could not agree more. The problem is that in many parts of the world, humans do not agree with us. AND I too, am an animal lover. Animals are innocent and our best friends with the most loyal, loving hearts. No question about it. Have you seen the video of "A lion called Christian?" If not, go to google. There are several versions of this beautiful, incredible, wonderful story. There is also a book out about it. Everyone should read this book. Thank you for writing.

It is about time to understand that there are no winners in wars and even if any side would win militarily, but it will not be able to guarantee peace and safety for its people. This conflict has been in our region since a long time and all the people in the region suffered and still suffering from its results.

The only way out for all sides is serious, honest, and sincere peace negotiations based on mutual respect for each other. It is about time for the Israeli people to understand that we the Arab do not want to throw them in the sea, and we are not seeking the destruction of Israel all what we want is simple and very clear to us:
- The return of the occupied territories to Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine.
- The free choice for the refugees to choose the rights of return , or compensation .
- The freedom of prisoners.
- A Palestinian state that is homogenous, viable, with continuous connected territory that the Palestinian people can move through it freely, these territories should be according to the pre 1967 ware, With some modifications and considerations to Jerusalem as being the holy site of the 3 religions.
- An equal measurements of peace keeping conditions on both sides of the boarders.

It is about time to know that unless Israel is convinced in taking this courageous step forward, there are no end to wars and suffering on both sides, it may win a war but it will never and ever win peace for its people and us, as the history has told us about all previous wars in our area, that Arabs are very patient for long time conflicts, crusaders have been here and forced to leave, ottomans been here and left, and others the same, clearly due to only one fact, which is we never give up on our struggle for freedom and peace, whatever is done to us, we continue on, one resistance group destruction results in the birth of five more, we are always ready to pay the price for our freedom. Now the stage is set for peace, as we are ready for it, a just peace built on equal sacrifices on both sides, and based on mutual understanding of each other’s needs, and worries, peace will be achieved when we put to practice the old saying" Want to the others, what you want to yourself".

The whole world is going through changes, joining together in larger groups, uniting in economical regional groups, and few in political terms, except the Middle East, and it is now the time to think of peace, economical, and political reforms in the Middle East, this region is blessed with enormous natural, and human resources, awaiting the wise and smart leaders to deploy for the benefits of the people of the region, leaders that have the foresight of a bright, and prospering future for the Middle East, together we can be one of the competitive, productive, and positive contributors to the global economy, and wealth. So we are saying it clear and loud "It is about time to partner together on making peace".
