The latest human insanity was some unknown person in Fallbrook, Calif. (San Diego County) who tied five puppies to a tree under an active beehive. Imagine the horror as the puppies started receiving stings from the angry hive.

Of course whoever did that knew what he/she/they were doing! Asking questions like that when an evil act was commited is one of the many reasons why psychopaths are getting away with what they are doing, why there are so many and why their acts are getting worst! They are not punished, they are excused and well treated! It's insane!

How do YOU know Nancy! That is exactly why I don't want to be associated with animal rights folk. You know NOTHING about the case, but you assume they knew what they were doing. Even worse, you have chastised the paper for even asking the question. Ever hear of getting facts before we go off! Get a grip on your emotions. Of course, if they DID know what they were doing, they should go to prison. No ifs ands or buts. However, rationality and reason should always be maintained. As a person who adopted a disabled dog and gets the 3rd degree from every unstable nut out there, who has been screamed at, followed home, had my privacy invaded, to you and them get yourself some therapy! Acting first w/o having a single fact is also psychopathy!

i side with Nancy,Sherry-even if they did not know there was a beehive there, what reason would they have to TIE 5 PUPPIES UP IN THE FIRST PLACE!?
Nancy is most likely thinking like most of us here on Care2--so much vile animal abuse going on and not a damn thing being done to them,Us "ANIMAL FOLKS" have had a bad week trying to save many animals from abuse and finding forever homes for the ones that survive their abuse and need homes. We saved some :) we lost some :(
I am damn proud to be an :animal folk",thank you much Shelly......Maybe you should think about moving on to other news articles where "animal folk" are not at....

Five dogs were attacked by a swarm of bees in Fallbrook. Tragically, they were all tied to the tree and could not escape. The two surviving puppies, both five months old, are a male Jack Russell terrier mix and a male Chihuahua mix. It is unknown if the person who tied the puppies under the tree knew about the bee hive.

Watch that video and then tell me what kind of person or people would tie those sweet things up to a tree--all 5 of them,my guess would be that it would not be a GOOD reason.

Sadly, I am typing this after watching the news here in San Diego where this happened...It was on the front page, which is so strange since that never happens.

Sorry ~ "5 Puppies tied to tree near hive attached by bees; 3 die ~ Three Puppies were killed and two critically injured after they were tied to a tree beneath a hive and attacked by a swarm of bees, authorities said Friday.

All of the 5 month old dogs suffered numerous stings.

It's a tragic story, said Lt. Dan DeSousa of the county Department of Animal Services. He said the dog owners, a woman and her 16 old daugher, told investigators they don't know who tied the pups to the tree after they left in the morning. They said the dogs had never before left their fenced property.

The puppies were found May 31 near an oak tree in the middle of a field that had been set on fire off De Luz Road, next to their owner's residence and a trailer park.

More at my San Diego Union/Tribune site...but right now it does did state that no charges are being brought up against the owners.

Frankly, IMO I am shocked since if I had puppies they would never be out of my locked yard, for this to happen is horrific and so distressing! No printable words, just tears when I read this early this morning! RIP dear ones...Horrible~The fact that one crawled away to just die of bee stings hurts my heart and typing this and reading the news still makes me sob!

thanks for the added info, marilyn. seems to me a neighbor doesn't like barking. at least, that's where i would start looking. and a quick check of sherry's submissions tells me that she has issues that make her hyper-sensitive. people rant out of frustration and disgust. nancy would never want harm to come to someone innocent.

It's kinda hard to not know that you're under a beehive. Someone standing under one, tying up puppies, would see bees coming and going, swarming around, even if they didn't hear any buzzing. Sounds intentional to me.

Yes we should make sure of any facts in so far as we can - but looking at the problem logically how and WHY would anyone do such a thing to puppies, and how could anyone not notice a swarm above them? If it were far enough away not to be noticed then they would not have attacked the puppies, I would have thought. Possibly the puppies were barking for help when their noise and movement annoyed the bees.

I cannot see myself how anyone could have done such a thing with good intentions - the mother and daughter who owned them say the puppies were in their yard when they left.... (thanks for the detail MmM, couldn't send you another green star yet - I tried!).

Thanks for this Dianne - and you are right, as is Mm M, Catherine, Veronica and just about everyone....

Sherri - do you really think that 'Acting first w/o having a single fact is also psychopathy!' - really??! It seems people did have facts, and more than one.

Sorry, I am a passionate animal lover - how could they not see the hive. They should be tied to the same tree and left to die. And to whoever says I am an animal nutcase, believe it because I am. I have no respect or compassion for humans that abuse innocent, defenceless animals. And I do believe in 'an eye for an eye" when it comes to animals!

Just when I think I've heard it all. So many wrongs here. First, intentionally HANGING 5 puppies . Second, UNDER A BEEHIVE. You can't tell me that the person didn't know that BIG ASS HIVE wasn't there with all that buzzing and humming going on. Third, the person had to hear the puppies cry and whimper from hanging and the painful stings. I just don't know what is wrong with folks anymore. If they find said offender, whats he gonna say "It's because I wasn't breastfed as a baby".? How can someone just do that? One day he will have to face God and make the ultimate answer for what he did. God bless the two little ones who made it and the three who passed away are cradled in God's arms & playing in puppy heaven, never to be hurt again.

Question about this person background. Were this person abuse by caretaker (parent, relative, neighbor, etc) as a child? therefore, toddler grown into a child or teenager to take innocent animal as way release his/her anger or revenge. This person is very dangerous to society in long run and need therapy ASAP.

It's totally irrelevant whether they knew about the bee swarm, what the hell were they doing tying up 5 assorted puppies to a tree anyway.? Sherry P. for goodness sakes accept that all the folk that care for animals are NOT extreme emotional freaks but intelligent caring people who hate to see ANY living being abused or mis-treated, animals, children, elderly people, you name it....for yourself just calm down and start to enjoy life !!!!!

The Romans used a bee basket in which to put condemned people to death for the enjoyment of the crowd. Bees once getting the signal from one of their own to sting will respond in kind. An agonizing way to die, much to the amusement of sadists.
If someone thought they were freeing the dogs from the yard, they should have "liberated" them to an animal shelter. This story smacks of revenge motive.

To Sherry and her ilk, puppies do not get tied to trees - with or without bees. That's not what animal lovers do, only animal abusers or people so stupid they really shouldn't breed.

What if instead of the puppies, people had put a little child under the tree and it had been killed by bees? Would you still have spouted similar stuff?

"That is exactly why I don't want to be associated with animal rights folk." - Sherry P. -

Then just go away. We don't want to be associated with sociopaths like you without a shred of compassion or common sense. The perfect place for you would be to be handcuffed and chained by the neck to a tree right below a huge hive of angry bees, with NO WAY TO ESCAPE.

Your post makes me wonder how many animals YOU'VE abused in your life...

Sherry P your comments are disgusting.
An animal welfare site is obviously not the place for you.Shame on you.You disgust me.I pity nay animals that you may have as they would not be cared for well that is obvious.
I agree 100 with Nancy Roussy. This was a deliberate act of animal cruelty. You don't need much of a brain to work this one out.
An eye for an eye.I would love to enact payback to the bastards who deliberately killed these poor puppies.

I cannot ever say enough, WE are their voices, if we go silent then stupid cruel and horrendous behavior like this happens. To Sherry: I don't care if whoever did it knew about the hive or not. What sort of low life does it take to tie them up and just leave? I'm sorry but this is the kind of story that just really infuriates me.

Why were the puppies tied under the tree? Forget the bees for a moment. Were the puppies tied to the tree for an "outing"? Did they have access to water? Or was this a deliberate act of sadistic cruelty?

I'm so sick of hearing things like this happen. More than likely it was a male and a complete low life. All I can do at this point is to ask God to Bless these little puppies and all the animals in the world and may God give the person that did this a very short misable life while on earth with a painful death and may he experience all the pain these puppies felt until they died, everyday of this persons day in hell.

Nan Towle (48)

People who do things like this are broken.

I say this because if it were my dog/dogs, or any dog that was getting attacked, I'd do everything I could to get them away from there to the best of my ability. You un-clip their leash/collar, you cut the leash, you throw a blanket over them, throw water on the bees, whatever you have on hand. Try anything to get them out of there.

Almost everyone has a cell phone these days. Any phone calls go out to any emergency people, anywhere? No.
Firemen that were in the area found the puppies.

Accidents happen, but by the lack of anything being done, this was no accident.
.

I hope that the person(s) responsible gets found. No defenseless, living thing should ever be in their care, ever again.

A just and educational response for the miscreants that did this is that they get to experience what these puppies experienced.

Horrible cruelty and a terrible tragedy! Something such as this could never happen by accident. All of the puppies were tied and there were five of them! I hope the person or persons who did this suffers the same fate! Death by hundreds or thousands of stings. In the meanwhile, I hope that they catch these people and they go to jail for such a malicious crime.
