This little girl did not know that she had angels getting ready to save her life and start her on a new journey. For Paws Hospice acted immediately and called the Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation (MCABSL).

For Paws Hospice asked Sunset Point if they could board Nalia while they looked for a foster.

Dr. Conrad at Sunset Point Animal Hospital later found that a severe infection had occurred and it would be in her best interest to amputate the the rest of her leg. This poor girl had to go through surgery twice.

On Aug 12, Nalia’s name changed to Nala, and found Kylee Stout, a vet technician and foster volunteer with Dunedin Doggie Rescue.

Nala's total veterinarian cost (and other expenses) to date is $2,521.76, and once she is completely healed, For Paws Hospice said they will supply her with a front wheelchair to limit excessive wear and tear. Estimated cost for the wheelchair is $500 to $800, according to the hospice.

Stout was told that Nala was nervous and shy, but after being home for five minutes she was rolling over wanting belly rubs and love. Her true personality began to emerge through her recovery.

In the past week, Stout has seen a wonderful change in Nala. She is bringing her foster family toys, wanting them to play with her and actually prances around the house with abundant energy.

“You would never know she has three legs," Stout says.

She is relearning how to walk on stairs and slippery surfaces, and will hopefully be spayed in October ready for her forever home. Even though she does not do so well with cats, she does great with other dogs.

Kylee says, “As someone who works with hundreds of pets a week, I can say she is a true joy and brightens your day. You can’t help but love her.”

A few questions from your pm response to me,pit bull owners have small minds and big egos, what the hell is your ego and mind?? Pit bulls are not killers---the idiot owners are the killers.
One last thing if you do not like pit bulls, why don't you stay out of news with them in it,and use your time and energy on something you really do like?

Pit bulls are BTW very awesome and would prefer their company as opposed to a small minded, big ego like you.Mr John Doe.

how many pit bulls do you actually know john Doe? you are one of the sad and ignorant people who do not think about or question what you hear but take everything at face value. If you took the time to air your mind and learn you would know that pit bulls are therapy dogs, rescuers, along with many other excellent things they do. It is people like you who are the dangerous ones, not the pit bulls. Read the news John and see how many people are killed by pit bulls in a day or a week and then see how many are raped, killed, attacked by people. Who is destroying the planet, starting the wars, stealing. I can promise you that it is not the pit bulls or any other dogs, it is the humans, my least favorite animals on the planet.

Neat to hear that people were willing to give time, effort, and money to help an animal. John, no one cares whether you like pitbulls or not, but you don't know Nala. We shouldn't judge any creature man or beast by appearance or breed. That's called bigotry, but you do have the right to speak your views. I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death, your right to hold and speak them. Take care and let's be proud of humanity doing something good for animals for once.

Thanks Dianne. This is a wonderful, heartwarming story. It's great to read about animal rescue and people who take so much effort to help, especially when an animal is injured or has been abused. Also appreciate that this story helps to counter the ignorance displayed by some people about pit bulls. There are pit bulls trained and used as therapy dogs, visiting kids in hospitals, seniors in nursing homes, etc. Pit bulls can make loving family pets, just like any other breed. Yet some prefer to keep alive the idea of a nasty stereotype of this breed, which either proves they don't know squat or just want to get attention for being ornery. They have no credibility whatsoever and in the future I'll know to ignore their comments.

There are no bad dogs, only bad dog owners! Any dog can become vicious and dangerous when in the hands of an owner who does not know how to treat them. Pit Bulls, like all "pets" need to have sensitive and loving owners who know how to train, love, and socialize them. Anyone who lumps all Pit Bulls into the category of "demon dogs" is not only foolish, but insensitive to the plight these beautiful animals face by owners who breed and train them to be fighters and killers.

John Doe, you can just exit from here, stage left, with your idiotic, ill informed comments. Stop wasting our time! You're just as bad as a racial profiler. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners as stated above. Plain and simple English. If you just came here to stir up shit, then take a hike, the adults have important animal business to tend to. Now make yourself scarce.

The only thing that's deadly is you're miniscule, profiling brain, John. If more people thought like you there'd be no animals left. EVERY creature can be vicious if it's mistreated and abused. Your zeroing in on Pit Bulls is NOT helping the cause. If you're not being a help, then you're a massive hinderance. Pit Bulls have a bad enough time without stooooopid comments like yours. You are an enormous troll as far as I'm concerned. Done with you and your idiotic comments.

The truth: there are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners, and it's the owners who train these dogs to be agressive and to kill, they get a sexual kick out of it! It makes them feel strong sending an animal out to do their cruel and terrible deeds...

DogsBite.org Releases 3-Year Fatality Study: U.S. Dog Bite Fatalities:

The report shows that 19 dog breeds contributed to 88 fatalities. Pit bulls accounted for 59% of these deaths, the second leading breed, rottweilers, accounted for 14%.

Seattle, Washington (April 22, 2009) -- DogsBite.org, a national dog bite victims' group dedicated to reducing serious dog attacks, releases its first multi-year report on U.S. dog bite fatalities. The report covers a 3-year period -- from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008 -- and analyzes data gathered from 88 dog bite incidences that caused death to a U.S. citizen
.
The report documents dog breed information, property information (where the attack occurred) as well as dog bite victim age information
.
Of the 88 fatal dog attacks recorded by DogsBite.org, pit bull type dogs were responsible for 59% (52). This is equivalent to a pit bull killing a U.S. citizen every 21 days during this 3-year period. The data also shows that pit bulls commit the vast majority of off-property attacks that result in death. Only 18% (16) of the attacks occurred off owner property, yet pit bulls were responsible for 81%
.
Pit bulls are also more likely to kill an adult than a child. In the 3-year period, pit bulls killed more adults (ages 21 and over), 54%, than they did children (ages 11 and younger), 46%. In the 21-54 age group, pit bulls were responsible for 82% (14) of the deaths. The data indicates that pit bulls do not only kill children and senior citizens; they kill men and women in their prime years as well.

The report also shows that of the six victim age groups documented, the 55 and older group suffered the most fatalities 26% (23), followed by the 2-4 age group 22% (19). Between the ages of 0-4, the study reveals that 14% (12) of the fatal attacks involved a "watcher," a person such as a grandparent or babysitter watching the child. Of these attacks, 75% (9) involved a grandparent type.

The founder of DogsBite.org, Colleen Lynn, adds, "The off-property statistical data about pit bulls shows just how dangerous they are." She noted that six senior citizens were killed under these circumstances: "Two were killed while standing in their own backyard," she said. "Four others were killed while taking a morning walk or getting the mail.

John Doe you need to understand that you are stuck in stereotyping these dogs. Once some time ago german shepards, dobermans and rotts had the same stigma. The pits you are thinking of are the ones brutalized into being fighters or guard dogs, these poor dogs are cruelly mistreated and have no choice but to do what the owners want.

Number of People Killed by Pit Bulls in Fatal Dog Attacks in 2009
Filed under Crimes Against Children, Dangerous Dogs, Dog Statistics:

0-year-old Justin Clinton was mauled to death by two pit bulls belonging to a neighbor.

The fatal attack occurred at the edge of the dog owners’ property. Because the dogs were not “running loose,” KLTV painted the dog owners as victims after a lawsuit was filed.

Our experienced dog bite attorneys have the knowledge, experience and resources to uncovered the facts of your case and win financial compensation for serious dog bite injuries and fatal dog attacks.

The following highlights information compiled by DogsBite.org, based on the number of pit bill attacks reported in the media during the first six months of 2009 (January through June). It does not include data for unreported pit bull attacks.

2009 Human Fatalities from Pit Bull Attacks

6 (2%) of the victims of pit bull attacks in the first half of 2009 died as a result of their wounds. All of these victims were children (from youngest to oldest):

Izaiah Gregory Cox, 7 months old, San Antonio, TX. Izaiah’s grandmother left her grandson on the bed while she went to warm a bottle. Her two pit bulls easily plowed through a baby gate to attack the 7-month-old boy. The grandmother stabbed the dogs and managed to get the baby into a crib; the dogs then turned and attacked her. Izaiah died at the hospital, and the grandmother was severely injured.
Leonard Lovejoy Jr., 11-months (Eastpointe, MI)

Tyson Miller, 18 months old, Luling, TX, was killed by a chained pit bull on his own property after his mother had agreed to dog sit for a pregnant pit bull for a friend.

Gabrial Mandrell-Sauerhage, 3, Johnston City, IL. The 3-year old boy was attacked by at least one of the family’s three dogs (two pit bull mixes and one collie mix) in his backyard while his parents slept. The injured boy was found 200 feet away from his home and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. An autopsy confirmed that Gabrial died due to multiple dog bites.

Cheyenne Peppers, 5 years old, (Thomasville, GA) was mauled to death in her backyard by three pit bulls. Two of the pit bulls had been chained but broke free to join the attack when a pregnant pit bull began mauling the little girl
.
Justin Clinton, 10, (Leverett’s Chapel, TX), was killed in an attack by two pit bull dogs belonging to a neighbor. A week prior to the fatal mauling, the boy had been bitten by one of the dogs. In this tragic case, KLTV painted the killer dog’s owners as the victims because the dogs killed the boy at the edge of their property – not while running lose

Pitbulls don't kill people, its their arrogant owners who do. No dog is born vicious, its how its raised to be. Don't feed your dog for days, chain him up unprotected from heat and rough weather, don't show any affection to him.....repeat this for days and then go up to him, how do you think it would react!?? Starved and uncared for, he'd obviously gnash and most of the times they react aggressively out of fear, they are scared of their owners who treat them like mere lifeless objects!!!
All dogs need to be trained , the same applies for pitbulls as well, they are extremely loyal, lovely dogs.
Discriminating a dog on the basis of his breed is same as RACISM!! Stop being racist guys, grow up!!!
STOP BSL! Its high time now, lets show our "Best Friend" that we still care !

I detest pit-bulls. And all "high/spezially-bred" breeds and breeders (of dogs, cats, and every creature that runs crawls swims or flies) Don't all dogs derive from the wolf (or, more precisely, a wolf-like common ancestor of all wolves and dogs) ? Now look what abominations them breeders have made ...
