The pit bull terrier, which was shot and killed in Malvern earlier this week, had been "reacting" to months of teasing and taunting allegedly from construction workers and school children, the dog's owner said on Thursday.

It is sad and unjust that the dog was teased by the stupid kids and construction workers, but I wish the owner would have then made an indoor enclosure for the dog to protect him.

Geez, you would think the stupid construction workers would have better sense to set a positive example for the kids and step in if they see abuse. Sh*t for brains all around.

I also agree that the stupid owner was negligent and should have looked for a solution, or asked the Humane Society to step in. Everyone teasing and taunting the dog should now be fined, and the families of the kids fined for being heartless and stupid too.

Why didn't the owner do anything about the harrassment of her dog? I'm sick of people.

Noted. Thanks so much, Dianne. This is such a sad story. The poor dog just couldn't take anymore. The owner should've done something about the teasing of the dog. Maybe she could've kept him inside and let him out to do his business. May the dog find peace on the Rainbow Bridge since he didn't have it here.

there are no bad dogs just bad care givers
education is key, children should be taught that what they do to other beings, they have done to themselves.
protect life, prosecute those that seek to destroy our shared home and our fellow beings
life has value beyond measure

noted...I am so very sad that this dog had to endure torment every day...where in the hell was the owner????? and judging by the picture, the dog looks in too good of condition....why couldn't the owner call the police for harassment to her dog with the construction workers and children, or better still video it!!!! God bless this dog, you know everyone being human or dog, can have a breaking point with constantly being taunted!!!! may this beautiful dog now have the peace and happiness that unfortunately the damn owner couldnt give him/her.....I blame the owner for this for sure, to have allowed it to even happen!!!! and she loved her dog, RIGHT??????

Noted very sadly. The poor dog couldn't help himself and had to endure so much! Shame on the human race for acting like this! People and children were so cruel to him and nobody was there to help and to protect the poor animal.

Why wasn't action taken against these scumbag trailer trash construction workers and brats. The cops or animal welfare should have intervened to stop the dog abuse.

Why did the owner allow the taunting and harassment of this poor dog to continue ,she was aware of it why didn't she stop it ?she is to blame -no -one else .

You would think construction workers would have more sense...specially if the owner asked to talk to their foreman. Then again, they don't have to be a rocket scientist to get the job. Kids will always try to tease something or somebody they think is safe and not able to get them.
Too bad for the innocent people who were bitten.
there may have been something the owner could have done, but someone opening the fence knowing a pit was on the otherside deserves a bite.
Dog is better off over the rainbow bridge than to have to put up with idiot and cruel people.

Even with wolves, it's usually the intruding humans that cause the problem. Dogs should get much more respect for putting up with us humans for 20-plus millennia than they do. Schoolkids, especially grade schoolers, might have the excuse of not knowing any better; adult construction workers do not!

I'm so sorry the dog had to loose it's life, but the dog owner has to take some responsibility if the dog is being teased, then move the dog to a location where he can't see the children or construction workers. Don't bge so stupid to sit there and do NOTHING. Some people should not have pets.

This is so horrible and sad. The jerks that were teasing and taunting the dog are to blame. People can be so cruel and look at how it ended.

This owner did what she could to protect her dog and yet ignorant people continued to torment him and he is the one that lost his life.Whether it is a dog being teased or a human being bullied ,anything with feelings will eventually snap.

Clearly the owner didn't do a good job of keeping her dog contained, or even training it right. The police should have done something earlier, and I feel sorry for the old man who had to take the situation into his own hands.

I read the story in the Cape Times and commented - said the bloody owner should have been shot instead. This poor animal had to die because of wicked humans, got into such a fight with people commenting about pit bulls - thank God quite a few stuck up for them.
