You'd think writing about dogs on a regular basis would be one big bunch of wags, right? And it can be one of the best jobs on the planet. But some days it just makes me want to throw in the towel and write about physics or power tools or solar panels

Lock the perpetrators up for life - and if you want justification for this punishment of their unspeakable sadism - then it is that having tortured innocent animals they will then in all liklihood progress on to humans - probably children. There is no excuse whatsoever for such sadism.

Ditto Pat. What's the bloody difference between torturing and killing humans then with animals. NONE! We all know that, but quite tragically we lack an ability to feel compassion for something that does not LOOK like us, or even a bilogical/ emotional understanding that other species are in fact very similar to us. A better way of saying this - We are animals too !

sadly, i think we also need to fine the crap out of people - as that's what most people care about these days. jail time is too easily negotiated, and fines should go to animal rescues/shelters.

Was there not a plan for a one way trip to a far planet ? There is only one problem. I think that more than 50% of the world citizens must go and that needs a very very big spaceship.

"What's the bloody difference between torturing and killing humans then with animals?" The law. We humans protect ourselves but not animals. In 48 states, in the US, acts of cruelty would warrant a felony penalty -- but, sadly, in both North Dakota and South Dakota the offender would get a mere slap on the wrist.

abusers must be prosectued to the max! nothing less than 10 years jail and much more for severe abuse. and they should be fined a large sum to pay for the rehabilitation and upkeep of the animals they abuse. the more animals they are caught abusing the higher the fine (e.g. at puppy mills, farms, brothels where are are a larger group of animals, their licenses must be revoked and they should be banned for life).

If being forced to help abused animals doesn't help heal their abusive ways.. then the same treatment & torture done by them, should be done to them.

Look into the eyes of an animal and you will see the same needs, fears, emotions & desires that you will find when you look into your own. If you can't find the humanity in the eyes of an animal, then your soul is in need of healing.

Do to them what they did to the animal, show no mercy, then lock them up for life in the worst prison possible.
Not going to happen I know but a girl has to dream that there is justice in this sick world. Thanks Dianne

Prison time for sure- but to prevent recurrence of the cruelty (as they won't get locked up for life, unfortunately) animal abusers need to get some kind of empathy training- likely therapy, community service, whatever- just something to allow them to get in touch with real emotions and not just their sociopathic impulses...

When are we going to get smart and start executing these psychopaths? Psychopaths abuse animals today and kill people tomorrow!

They should get the same punishment as if they had committed the crime against another human.

Well if they ever set an example to people who abused animals like Michael Vick instead of allowing him to now have another poor dog in his home then maybe these creeps would think twice before they did the same thing. It makes me sick to see Vick and others like him continue to prosper in spite of the pain and suffering they have caused.. It sickens me that our country will not protect and seek justice for these animals.

I'm thinking an eye for an eye. The punishments they are receiving just isn't good enough.

if one of my cats who are a full member of my family, were to mistreat or kill by a person, I completely will lose that part of me, i am calling with honor "human"

What punishment give to abuser of animals, is a very good question, until the day in which the animals will not be recognized as thinking beings (fortunately the right path is being taken) no punishmen will be able to be a relief to a family that has lost their pet and even for a man, who takes care of animal rights, which reads one of the infinite news on the wickedness and cowardice that man can make to defenseless beings.
noted - thank you so much Dianne

Animal abusers should be made to pay the maximum fine, and do a minimum of three to five years of jail time, depending on the severity of the crime.

Jail of course....

Noted. They should get a very minimum of 10 years in prison and more if the crime is severe. They should also have to pay a huge fine that would in turn go to an animal shelter or rescue group and if the animal belongs to someone else they should have to pay restitution for vet bills, etc to get that animal cured or in the case of death restition for that family losing a family member. And I'm not talking about the cost of replacing an animal, I'm talking pure restitution for the loss of a life that mattered. Thanks so much, Dianne.

I'd like the punishment to fit the crime - whatver they do to the animal should be done to them! Since that will (sadly) never happen, they should receive the harshest punishment possible under the law.
