This is a very interesting read. I'm sure that over time the Manatees have become accustom to the sound of the boat motors. Perhaps, just like humans, if you hear the same sound over and over again, you soon loose the ability to register or hear that sound. I do hope research in accoustics can help the manatees.

I wish they would make it a law for the boaters to use propeller safety protectors. This would allow the manatees to be safe in the waters they lurk. These are beautiful huge creatures that should be protected! Love them!
