"You apply for Med-Waiver. You get on a waiting list, but your waiting list could be 5, 6, 8 years!?" Joe explains. "So, what is the help for that person? There is none. There is none. There's no help. It set us back with making payments on the van, on the house…" Joe Chida

This should be Unacceptable to every American citizen.....

These are some brief statistics in the USA.......

The USA pays twice as much yet lags behind other wealthy nations in such measures as infant mortality and life expectancy. Currently, the USA has a higher infant mortality rate than most of the world's industrialized nations.

In the United States life expectancy is 42nd in the world, after some other industrialized nations, lagging the other nations of the G5 (Japan, France, Germany, UK, USA) and just after Chile (35th) and Cuba (37th).

Life expectancy at birth in the USA, 78.49, is 50th in the world, below most developed nations and some developing nations.

These Statistics also should be Unacceptable to every American Citizen.

This system is only good for the FOR PROFITs that the Corporate overseers make, the CEO's, some upper Management, and the Shareholders. Meanwhile the Chida family looses their home, vehicle, their other children suffer, their family is put under stress.......and we should be happy with this?

So if you vote from Romney/Ryan you doom more people to these horrific senarios, and if you don't push the ones in power, be they Democrats or Republicans to go Universal Health, then I don't know what else to say, no one in this Country should have to live without medical care......or die without medical care......or suffer without medical care......go bankrupt (the #1 reason for bankrupcy) for medical care.

Shame shame on the Leadership in this Country that has allowed this to go on so many years. Shame on the citizens that can not see their fellow citizens are not always in the same boat as they with health care. Shame for not wanting Universal Health Care so that no one needs to suffer, medical care is NOT a luxury but it has become one.

Stand up for Universal Health Care or whatever name one wants to give it. There is no reason why we can't do the same as Canada, UK, Australia, Japan, Finland, Norway, France, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland and a host of other Countries. We are the only Industrialized Country that doesn't have a Universal Health Care system, and look at the statistics we are at the bottom of the heap for taking care of our people.

This USA Health Care system is neither Healthy nor Caring.

And finally, from the New York Times:

"When it comes to pursuing federal largess, most of the states that oppose the 2010 health care law have refused to let either principle or politics block their paths to the trough. If Washington is doling out dollars, Republican governors and legislators typically figure they might as well get their share.

Then there is Florida. Despite having the country’s fourth-highest unemployment rate, its second-highest rate of people without insurance and a $3.7 billion budget gap this year, the state has turned away scores of millions of dollars in grants made available under the Affordable Care Act. And it is not pursuing grants worth many millions more.

In recent months, either Gov. Rick Scott’s administration or the state’s Republican-controlled Legislature has rejected grants aimed at moving long-term care patients into their homes, curbing child abuse through in-home counseling and strengthening state regulation of health premiums. They have shunned money to help sign up eligible recipients for Medicare, educate teenagers on preventing pregnancy and plan for the health insurance exchanges that the law requires by 2014.

While 36 states shared $27 million to counsel health insurance consumers, Florida did not apply for the grants. And in drafting this year’s budget, the Legislature failed to authorize an $8.3 million federal grant won by a county health department to expand community health centers.

In interviews, Mr. Scott, a Republican, and state legislative leaders were clear about their rationale. They said they detested everything about the federal health law, which was declared unconstitutional by a federal judge in a case filed by the state. Unless ordered to do otherwise by an appellate court, they said, they had no intention of putting it in place, even if that meant leaving money on the table."

So there you have it......there was funding there but Rick Scott would rather it's citizens matter how it is they suffer. Is ok for Rick Scott, he has lots of money, he'll never have to cut back in his life, he'll not suffer. The Economist have proven over and over again that austerity does not work, it only hurts and hurts the most vunerable among us.

If the republicans hold their control of the house and gain the majority in the senate and take over the white house it will only get worse.

Here is the kicker..they agreed to 30 days of 8 hours of nursing while the appeal is in Talahassee, It goes before a board...the board is made up of individuals which they cant tell you who because it is not disclosed..we are sitting here in limbo, we cant have a normal full time job because you never know from day to day how Chris will be or what will come up. A study was done by an independent accounting firm which took on the at home care versus assisted living and nursing home. The study concluded the cost would actually be 30% less if the person was given nursing at home. This is do to the individual actually was healthier mentally and physically when at home and doctor care was minimum. Governor Scott is a Tyrant..his own party has shunned him, even Romney snubbed him off...All I know is this country is more and more becoming a dictatoship and we better stand up and take a big whiff of what they are cooking......

Thank you so much for this as everyone on medicare and medicaid has been hurt with the Obamacare cut backs to where they don't know where they stand other than being screwed over. Doctors went from a monthly office visit to a three month visit, 6 month visit and now a year. Doctors are scare as we are and don't know where they stand either as the chopping block has cut alot of payouts.

Is why we need Universal Health Care, so those people will get what medical they need. This system is a mess. I am in hopes that this cutting back is temporary, for it is the Providers that are cutting back out of not being able to understand this mess. Romney/Ryan will be no better in facr worse. But this has been the way of this very broken system, shifting care from one group to another, denying payment on one type of procedure to pay for another. Is not the way things should be done. Those of us who wanted Universal Health care are not happy with Obamacare but we are in hopes it is the foot in the door. If our idiot here in Florida, Rick Scott, would accept the new funds for the Medicaid then this young man might be covered under that, but Rick Scott is refusing this extra monies from the Federal Govt. allowing millions in his own State to suffer needlessly.

Somethin's gotta give. We'll also be losing medical professionals as their overhead will not be affordable. Scott has a cohort in Christie. He turns funds away...idiotic and ignorant.

$300 million to go to MARS but our own politicians cant drive around the block to see the homeless and sad

Sheryl G (363)
Friday August 24, 2012, 8:16 pm
Not to knock the price to Mars, but $2 BILLION a WEEK is spent in Afghanistan. Why? We initially went there for Bin Laden. He's dead, so why are we still there? I repeat $2 BILLION a WEEK! If we brought the troops home, how many people at $2 billion a week could we provide medical care to? There is your Universal Health Care for all of us citizens right there.

I'm very pleased to learn of this latest development for Chris. But look at how hard you had to go to finally get it. It should not have to be that hard to get needed medical care for Chris or any of the other Chris's that are out there. In fact, it shouldn't be that hard for anyone to get medical care period.

I've gone to far to many funerals, of young and older simply because they couldn't get the medical treatment they needed. Medical conditions left untreated that intensified, medical care that would of been given easily in Europe or Canada, that allowed a person to get well or at least maintain a chronic condition. Shouldn't have lead to premature death. Our Country is obsessed with punishment and death, we are one of the few Countries that still has death penalty, we have more in prison than even China who has a population in the billions while we are in millions, we are always at war killing and being killed, we deny health care to our citizens that leads to their death. Yes, this is a Country all about death. Is why I always find it so amusing with these pro-life advocates, it seems to me to be a very small area of life they choose to be pro for.

Again, very pleased for Chris. You are a good Father Joe. I'm sure Chris has an equally wonderful Mother.

You are absolutely right...I too am sick of all the war mongers, and you wait and see we will be in Iran next year the GOP has its sights focused on target...we sit back and watch innocent women and children die in Syria, but our boots are in afganastan..we no longer stand for is about greed...the american people only mean something when they work for the almighty for scab wages...cant work your thrown to the pit...I am so sick of the so called Greatest Country in the world that cant come up with health care for its people..they want you to die ....its their goal....I will never stop the fight and hope everyone will stand with me...

Is why I do what I do on here Joe, as well as run a Womens Circle to help empower women to stand up for their own selves as well as to tackle things needing doing to protect Turtle Island and help bring in true leaders that care for more than the Corporate Puppet Masters and the Banksters. Is why I joined a local OWS, is why I stand in the cooler weather once each week with my Stop The War Sign to keep reminding these drivers, so that the War isn't out of sight and out of mind. Is why I go to where I'm asked to give Talks......why I join the people at our churches social justice group. We can each do something, we just each have to DO something.
