Sainsbury's says it is to phase out battery eggs by 2012. The chain plans to ensure that 100% of the 600m eggs it sells each year do not come from caged hens. Instead they will come from either free range birds which roam outside or "barn eggs" hatched

I wish it wouldn't take so long, but I'm happy they're doing it. Those confined bird live a hellish life.
