life expectancy for Russian males was lower than in a number of the world's poorest countries, including Yemen, Bangladesh, Mauritania, Honduras, Tajikistan and Senegal. Alcohol is also involved in some 80% of murders and 40% of suicides

There have been many articles about Russia's struggle to control this mind-altering addictive drug and the havoc it causes in their society. These murder and suicide statistics are shocking, but it doesn't mention the terrible cost on families and the high divorce rate plus there are an estimated 1 million homeless street children in Russia because of alcohol addicted parents. No wonder Russians are dying out.

Knowing the stodgy mind of the average politician or senior civil servant I doubt that anyone in charge in Russia has tried looking for the reasons that so many people believe it is a good idea to commit slow suicide by alcohol. In the UK that same mind-set refuses to look at the causes of “binge” drinking and hopes to “cure” the problem by dealing with the symptoms and raising duties and prices on alcohol. I suspect the Russian rocket scientists will do much the same.

I guess this is what happens to people when they live in a country controlled by Socialists...what has anyone to look forward to!?

People love to drink alcohol and many young people regard it as trendy. They won't want to give it up until something really bad happens. The Government encourages this drinking because it has allowed the 24Hour Bottle Shops to reign supreme. It is shirking its responsibility towards our young people by not acknowledging the damage that alcohol does - IT DESTROYS LIVES, WRECKING HOMES AND KILLING PEOPLE.

so sad. I would like to question as to why they are turning to alcohol in the first place. I know that in certain aspects it is a culture thing. But there are other underlying reasons too. These reasons need to be addressed before anything can be done.

Education is needed to make it socially unexceptable and maybe if they had more reasons to be happy who knows what could happen.

Have anyone ever heard of someone getting in a car accident because of Marijuana, or committing suicide, abusing their spouse, or dying? So why is alcohol legal and Marijuana illegal? Could it be the individuals making the rules about drugs really don't have a clue?

I just read a book by Richard Wurmbrand "Tortured for Christ". It is his view that the prevailing materialistic world view in that country, its lack of a Jesus Christ, compells the people to seek an escape from their spiritual emptiness, their meaningless lives. Alcohol is one of such escapes. From my own Christian perspective I tend to agree.

I believe Russians have always drank a enormous amount
When I was in Russia bottles of vodka were put on the table in the morning for breakfast
On the Siberian Express bottles of Russian champagne were handed out like water

Is it due to lack of unemployment?Social pressure? Supposedly, alcohol addiction is genetic. This statistic is not a generic illness.

Thanks Rob & J for posting the short but shocking article. The stats were horrific, it boggles the mind. Read and noted.

Please do the Right Thing and FLAG THIS STINKING, DISGUSTING AD!
Click on "flag as inappropriate" and Care2 staff is SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF IT.
However, they seem to be ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH lately!
Here is what I wrote them:
THIS IS AGAIN ONE OF THOSE STINKING, DISGUSTING ADS.
NOT DEALING WITH THIS, MAKES CARE2 LOOK BAD!
DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT???

These are NOT "real people" or "real Care2 members". THEY HAVE NO PROFILES.
These are HACKERS who get PAID for inserting ads where they're not wanted.
PLEASE NOTIFY CARE2 -- IF WE DON'T DO THAT CARE2 WON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS BIG PROBLEM!

Russians have always been heavy drinkers.
Partly it is the COLD WEATHER.
Alcohol keeps you warm, until you freeze to death because you become unconscious.
But until then, you are warm.

PLEASE click on "flag as inappropriate". It just takes a moment!
THIS IS A STINKING, DISGUSTING AD!
CARE2, GET RID OF THESE ADS! NOW!
THEY ARE REALLY DOWNGRADING YOUR IMAGE AMONG US!
Care2 staff is being awfully slow in responding these days.
Nevertheless, we MUST keep on clicking on "flag as inappropriate" so that they KNOW!
THESE ARE NOT REAL PEOPLE, NOT REAL CARE2 MEMBERS.
THEY ARE HACKERS, GETTING A "FREE RIDE", GETTING PAID FOR INSERTING ADS.
No use talking to them -- but, FLAG THEM ON EVERY THREAD YOU SEE THEM ON!

Alcoholism is rampant everywhere, especially among those who feel hopeless & powerless. Why are they more special than those who die in our own country? Our Countrymen & women should be primary on our minds. Blessings to all who need help, everywhere.

Catherine Victor is a spammer too. I've reported this over and over again and C2 doesn't do anything. Please report. What does Wai'oli Tea Room & Bakery of Honolulu, Hawaii. have to do with alcoholism in Russia?

I do flag them all BMutiny but as you say, C2 doesn't seem to be removing them as of late. Not sure why is it due to staff shortage, someone out sick?

Russia has been known for a long long time to be dealing with severe alcoholism and I don't think that their Country is doing much on dealing with this issue. I suppose if the Russian people are drunk and not out in the streets protesting their living conditions then that is less for the Government to deal with. Just lock them up for disorderly conduct and toss them back out to drink for another day.
