An ill-treated captive animal, confined to a tiny, restrictive environment, barred from contact with other individuals of her species, plagued by taunting, harassment, and abuse, is no prospect for propagating the species, and serves only to prop up the institution that sells its popcorn and admission upon her weary back.

The contribution of the average municipal zoological park toward species conservation is highly debatable.

Why don't parents teach their kids to respect animals - all animals - not to yell, torment, or scream at them. How junvenile, cruel and humiliating. No wonder the tiiger tried to eat him. I would too! These itdiots were never taught even basic human values, decency and respect for others, including other humans and animals. There is no excuse for their behaivor. It's not the tiger who is responsible for her behavior - it's the supposed more intelligent human who acted like a fool. Noted.

Punks....Reputable lawyer they've got , as well, eh ? Defended Scott Peterson . There's a shocker . As for the security at the zoo itself....why would they let a bunch of drunken potheads into a park full of wild animals in the first place , I'd like to know ? That zoo has a lot to answer for, methinks. R.I.P , Tatiana .

Rest in peace Tatiana, I knew there was more to this story. I say charge them but I'm sure if they have Mark Geragos defending them that all they are thinking about at this point is money. Blood money in my opinion.

I always believe there is a reason why animals attack/defend, rarely is it a unprovoked action. It's sad that these animals are destroyed for reacting. At least now Tatiana's reputation is put to rest, too bad she had to be put to rest as well.

The mere fact animals are kept captive at all is the greater crime, I'm sad to say. It facilitates the attitude of human domination which, tragically, most people possess.

BUT, it could all change with the stroke of a pen as more of us get the word out to politicians worried for their election or re-election!

It's also sad to think we've actually evolved (or devolved) to the point where we've lost so much respect for Nature and Animals that we need to legislate their freedom from our exploitation!

Although it is WRONG what the boys did, and it is CRUEL that they took Tatiana down (and very sad), it remains to be the ZOO'S fault for the death of both human and animal. There is no excuse for this park not being safe, and I truly would not be going through it until they made it so.

It's cruel to enclose any wild animal and use them as a spectacle for human entertainment, they should be allowed to live free in their natural environment, you get the idiots who taunt such beautiful animals and provoke an already tormented soul, the blame lies on the shoulders of man for all the tragic loss of life involved in this preventable incident. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO SHUT SAN FRANCISCO TGER EXHIBIT DOWN - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/494865150 - the tiger is one of the most threatened species on Earth. It is estimated that as few as 5,000 - 7,000 tigers remain in the wild. Of the nine subspecies of modern tiger, three are extinct and the remaining are classified as endangered, some critically so. Worldwide funds that are wasted on keeping these animals confined in cages should go towards halting habitat loss, fragmentation and hunting, poaching for skins and body parts have greatly reduced tiger populations in the wild, it's unacceptable that they should be made to suffer the brutal consequences of such intrusive human interference.

They should have worded it the boys and their parents.
Smoking marijuana at their home and the parents can't smell that?
These so called children have drugs. Alcohol and devices to beat a drug test and we are to believe them?
I'll take common sense thank you. No animal goes to that extreme unless they are extremely irritated.
And I can't sign that petition because it's wording makes it seem like it was the tigers fault and I disagree with that.
Just my opinion

He should be facing prison time if you ask me instead of acting like a victum, they were all drunk and high and teasing her, so the way I look at it is they got what they had comming to them. She took all she could take. You take a human and keep pushing them in a corner and after a while see what happens they come out swinging this is what she done, but she lost her life because of these punks. To say she is free she is not she is dead!!! and she should still be alive today and would be if it weren't for these drunken punks. Thank you Bette. noted

I don't think the complete truth has come out. The one who told the father of the killed young man they did no more than wave and yell at the tiger was very drunk. His ability to remember his behavior is amazing and doubtful and self-serving. Their mother defended them saying they were just normal kids "having fun." "Dhaliwal's blood alcohol level had been measured after the attack at 0.16 percent, twice the legal level for drunkenness." There was a tree branch and pine cone found in the mote. Ever play with a cat with a tree branch? I think they were trying to get the tiger to leap after the branch to get a good picture and probably dangling their legs over the railing as bait. When they turned their cell phones over under court order a week later any incriminating photos had been erased. I wonder if they transferred any of their special Tarzan photos to their computer to print out?

This whole incident makes me sick. I think the two brothers should be prosecuted for the death of their friend. And they should be prosecuted for the death of the tiger also. What were 2 underaged people doing drinking anyway? The fact that they hired a high profile attorney makes me furious. Hopefully, Mr Garegos will withdraw from the case. The zoo may have been, in part, responsible for not having a high enough enclosure around the tigers but for these two brothers to be able to profit from this horrible incident is another example of how frivilous lawsuits are costing taxpayers more money than they ought to. I hope they throw this case right out of court or charge the brothers as accesories in their friend's death. Ther, infortunately, will probably be no justice for poor Tatiana, who didn't need to die this awful way.....

This lawsuit was thought up by someone else, not these idiotic menchild. The boys family or this Garegos apprached them to cover every angle of what supposedly happened.

If I were the judge the sentence would be to put these two in a zoo and allow the public to tease them for about six months!!!!!!!!!

The world is full of these functionally illiterates and their parents are to blame for their behavior......From the article I read the parents had no control over what they eventually did or any of the other predicaments with the law they got into. Evidently these so called parents could have used parenting classes to learn how to control these lying rats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they lie because their parents taught them how!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, when you have criminals running your country, as leaders of the free world, an example, a horrific example, of CRIMINAL, sociopathic behavior is the matrix set in place. And if you haven't done your WORK, like clearly neither of these "children" or their "parents" did, you have A CRIMINAL EVENT, which ultimately is life-destroying and filled with death, as this was.

What we need in this country is a full sweep of all SATANIC beings, that converts them back into the DIVINE CHILDREN THEY TRULY ARE, or we as a world will continue to suffer the pains of this majestic transition. FASTER, FASTER, FASTER evolution for us all! Goddess bless.

Poor Tatiana and all animals who are used so cruelly by greedy, selfish humans. This beautiful tiger innocent of any wrong doing was placed in prison (while true criminals roam free) and was allowed to be tormented beyond endurance. All she wanted from the time she was a cub was to live her life as she was meant to live .... free.
No more cages or cruel humans to torment you sweet girl.....you are finally free!!!!

On one hand we have the questionable morality of keeping wild animals in cages...I know I know their habitat is being destroyed...AND on the other hand we have a group or idiots who get their jollies from teasing caged wild animals. And they still think they did nothing wrong...can we have them banned from having anything further to do withanimals...including a ban of zoo visits and pet ownership. Least that sort of ABSO will keep them away from being beastly to animals.

Noted. Sometimes parents, schools, churches have all tried very hard to properly socialize and sensitize their childen--here is yet another example where it just didn't take, especially under peer pressure. I have never enjoyed zoos...I could tolerate it somewhat better when the better ones replaced cages with simulations of the animals' environments. But they are still captive...they are still barred from their freedom...and confined in relatively small spaces. They got a decorating makeover...that's all. I believe I have signed this petition already, but will backtrack to check. The zoo is going to lose on the matter of foreseeability because it was pointed out to them some times back on inspections and they had a standard of care and responsibility when the public was paying to come in and see these exhibited animals. They did not meet it. But I hope the judge will order them to community service cleaning up at the zoo, dog parks....I think you see where I am going with this! Thank you for bringing the story, Dave. Petition signed.

Thanks Marcy, I signed the petition and plan to take the poll too. The stress that these beautiful animals suffer in captivity is not right and the only solution to this problem is that they need to be free to live and roam in their own environment. I see this problem everywhere and whether people like it or not it is the fault of Humans. We have encroached on their habitats in a astronomical rate that the animals don't have any room left to survive in the wild anymore. People need to control their numbers before all the wild animals are eradicated by our selfishness.

Animals kept captive is a crime. They lack the conditions to devellop in a good natured way. A tiger who wouldn't feel threatened would not attack those guys.
Yet, they insisted on behaving dangerously. Waving arms, yelling, throwing things, making noise by a imprisonned tiger are very dangerous actions.
It's always very sad the meaningless loss of a life, and here it happened twice. A human and a tiger.

I volunteer at the Indianapolis Zoo and I can't tell you how many times I have had to ask parents to get their kids to stop tormenting the poor animals. I know that most animals are happy, but I wouldn't want someone to start growling or making roaring sounds at me like I'm something to be made fun of. I have yelled at groups if kids for making roaring sounds at the lions. Everyone thinks its funny to make sounds like "Mufasa". It annoys the hell out of me and the parents look at you and ask why it wrong!

Just a fine for the life of an endangered species !!!!!!!!! If these idiots were just given a fine they would think in their infantile brains they beat the system and off they go to commit something far more serious than this. Men/boys of this caliber and come from families as this can not think any other way unless they are literally re-programmed.............Away from the method their parents raised them.

Perhaps it is wishful thinking but Siberia sounds like a great place to banish them to..........Think about that for awhile..........What animal lives in that area???????

Zoos do have a place in the world. They have bred and increased the population of MANY endangered animals. Where is the personal responsibility of people nowdays? I think they threw rocks at it or definitely more than they say. It never came close to attackig before. They should not profit and they should be punished. Maybe a lawsuit was what they had in mind in the first place and it went wrong. There are some immigrants who come here and just want to screw up our society out of hate. Maybe people need to be checked out and on probabtion for 10 years, after they immigrate here.

And far too many come here to screw us as well as use their ethnicity or race as grounds for getting out of it!!!! Since we've had the Mexican invasion 48,000 Americans have been murdered by them. So, what would stop a couple of brainless unthinking idiots from doing what these so called people did! These people should spend more than a few years in prison for causing the death of such a beautiful creature.
