Estimate: 8.3 BILLION tonnes virgin plastic produced to date; 79% ended dumped. China was top of the list of countries mismanaging plastic waste, but the US also featured in the top 20 and contributed a higher rate of waste per person.

I do wish they'd adopt an international symbol for "recyclable" labels - then every company either producing non-recyclable packaging/products and/or NOT clearly indicating the recyclable status should be fined - money to be allocated directly to environmental clean-up programmes & research on how to deal with plastic waste ...

And introduce fines for not disposing of recyclable waste into systems that recycle.

We're not going to eliminate plastic rapidly, but we could be creating more pressure to:
=> find more environmentally viable alternatives
=> adopt efficient recycling systems so plastic becomes useful in proportion to its longevity ...

Insufficient support is given to adoption of techniques already developed to convert plastic waste into useful new purposes ...

Yes, time to put some of the cost of recycling onto the producers.

So sad; I really think the solution is not in recycling, but in diminishing the consumption of plastic; to never use resources to produce it.
