"Ministers are keen on the Severn barrage, which could provide up to 5 per cent of the country’s renewable electricity needs, but wildlife campaigners have said that it will wreak havoc on surrounding ecosystems"

Renewable energy sources must be combined with the safety of the fragile ecosystems or we will simply be trading one major destructive problem for another.
Noted with thanks, Chrissy.

Why don't we have this in our country? Because of the horse's ass in Congress who is fighting it. The first windfarm is to be built in Nantucket, and Teddy Kennedy is fighting it because it 'spoils my view'. Instead the residents of Cape Cod continue to get their electricity from a diesel plant.

Daniel, I have heard this "look ugly" argument before and I ask which is more ugly, a field of windmills or a coal or nuclear power plant. Know what I'd rather be looking at.

Gail, I'm not sure how it would affect the ecosystems there, so I think I will look into it more. The barrage is already there.

Chrissy, I approve of windfarms; it s sad that Teddy Kennedy is opposing them. It has got to the point he is booed by young people when he speaks.
