"Under President Bush's authority, they've been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving. That's been going on, in the name of all of us.

Who said this is not a scary guy? I just hope it all comes out, because only with complete transparency can we put into place the rules to prevent this from happening again. Many US special forces troops do the dirty work (wet work) for people like Cheney. Cheney could probably say he has never killed anyone - not his hands!

Remember when former Vice President claimed he constituted a peculiar fourth branch of government unto himself, claiming executive privilege as part of the executive branch, while with the next breath refusing to obey executive branch record keeping laws? Now we're beginning to find out what that fourth branch of government actually was . . . his own private worldwide assassination ring. Somehow we don't recall the U.S. Constitution providing for such a fourth co-equal branch of our government.

If we just shove all this in some White House closet, with no public airing of what went on, then the abuses become presidential precedents, sanctioning future presidents to pull them out of the closet whenever they want.

Bush, Cheney, and their apologists now assert that even if there were illegal acts, it's OK because they made America safer. Well, did they really? If there's no digging into what happened and what actual effect it had, we have no truth and no guidance for the future.

Obama's White House shouldn't be the ones to do this job. Congress should set up a no-nonsense investigative commission with full subpoena power to get down to the real truth. To know where we're going, we need to know exactly where we've been.

Is there no level of treason outrageous enough to get one of the other two branches of government to confront these crimes against the Constitution? The justice department must immediately appoint a special prosecutor. Failing that, Congress must launch its own investigation, as called for by the always heroic Dennis Kucinich, to get to the bottom of this.

"Eight or nine neoconservatives took over our country"
- It's interesting to know that people in the CIA who aren't just
right-wing political appointees say that if Sy Hersh says it, it's
worth looking into. It would be even more interesting to know whether
Dick Cheney's Assassination Squad explains the mysteriously convenient
deaths of so many people who seemed to stand in his way politically.
