A proud day for Russia! Thank you Prime Minister vladimir Putin and Yuri Trutnevsaying and especially to all the protestors who urged a halt to hunting of baby seals that took place in 20 cities and towns across Russia.

On February 27, state-owned Rossiiskaya Gazeta quoted Putin, "This is a bloody business and it's clear that it needs to be stopped." ~Prime Minister vladimir Putin

"The bloody sight of the hunting of seals, the slaughter of these defenseless animals which you cannot even call a real hunt, is banned in our country, just as well as in most developed countries, and is a serious step to protect the biodiversity of the Russian Federation," the minister for natural resources, Yuri Trutnev, said in a statement.

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

I am so happy that finally someone is putting a stop to this. If the rest of the world would do this and protect all wildlife it would be a better place. You go Russia ! ! ! !

Too bad they haven't stopped the hunt for baby humans. And let's see how long this lasts when the eco-systems sway out of balance dramatically--or have the Russians given up the fish hunt, too?

Unfortunately just days after this news the Canadian government, not to be out done by Russia. allowed the killing of nearly a quarter million baby seals. While Israel is now the only nation on earth to attempt to ban the use of all animal fur. Each positive step can bring us to a goal of ending the abuse of animals.
