An eight-year old Saudi Arabian girl who was married off by her father to a man in his 50s has had the union annulled, it was reported yesterday. The case, which had generated local and international outrage, ended with an out-of-court settlement.

Glad to hear it! These old fools that marry these young children angers me to the core. I don't care what they say it is, to me they are nothing but pedophiles. What kind of parent would let that happen to their child?! Disgusting.
Thank you Tom.

This should never have happened to begin with. I am so happy this child is now free from this horrible commitment. Thanks Tom.

I heard this story on NPR and thought perhaps I was listening to a Fox News story because I did not believe it. 8-years-old...and already a life story to tell.

Children should be allowed to be children, not forced to grow up, especially young girls.

Little girls are precious, they aren't ours to give away for marriage or anything.

In this case, marrying a little girl to a man old enough to be her father or grandfather isn't marriage, it's sex slavery. When you force a little girl into that you're stealing her life and furture.

That's great she was able to divorce him.

Perhaps the old fools that are wanting to marry children should just go to prison? We would do it here, why should it ever be condoned?

It would be wonderful if that happened Kit, but they aren't breaking any laws under their civil and religous code.
Sue w , you are spot on but it's not only in England: it's happening in most of Europe and will get worse as their population increases.

Being a young girl in Saudi Arabia (and many other countries)
must be worse than living in hell!
That goes for grown up women too.
I am not allowed (Big Brother!) to use the words I would need to express what I feel when it comes to those freaking, very sick bastards that thinks it's OK to marry a eight years old girl! Or to have four wives!
Jesus Christ...!
