Please urge the USDA to ensure that its new roadmap provides the necessary support for animal welfare research and education committed to the needs and interests of animals. Help Farm Sanctuary make the most of this opportunity before it's too late!

Make Sure Animal Interests Are Included in the USDA Roadmap (REE-2009-0001)

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am very concerned about the lack of unbiased animal welfare research and education. Until now, animal welfare research funding has come from the factory farming industry itself, resulting in biased and unreliable studies that fail to adequately consider animal interests. This is unacceptable, especially under a president who has committed himself to ensuring animal interests are accounted for, and given the American public's demonstrated concern for farm animals.

Ethics and the interests of animals themselves need to be central to animal welfare research and education. The USDA is in the best position to make this a reality, by making sure that Roadmap for Agriculture Research, Education and Extension revives and increases funding for animal welfare education and research that focuses on the interests and needs of the animals themselves rather than simply their usefulness to humans.

Thank you,
