The Department of Defense just gave $80 million in bonuses to Halliburton subsidiary KBR for electrical wiring contracts in Iraq, even though eighteen U.S. soldiers have died via electrocution as a direct result of KBR's shoddy and substandard work.

Why are we giving $80 million to the Iraq War profiteer responsible for electrocuting U.S. soldiers?

Call it Dick Cheney's legacy.

The Department of Defense just gave $80 million in bonuses to KBR, a former subsidiary of Halliburton, for electrical wiring contracts in Iraq. But in a dramatic Senate hearing, the DoD's own documents revealed that U.S. soldiers have died via electrocution as a direct result of KBR's shoddy and substandard work.

The Nation has issued a chilling report based on evidence revealed this week. Eighteen U.S. soldiers have died as a result of KBR's work. One of the electrocuted soldiers was a decorated Green Beret whose death was classified by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Division as a "negligent homicide."

KBR/Halliburton is not just distinguished by its close relationship with Dick Cheney, the company's former CEO and the architect of the disastrous invasion of Iraq. It also happens to be the single largest war profiteer from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bush's Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, may still lead the Department of Defense under the Obama administration. But that doesn't mean we can't end the blank checks for Bush and Cheney's cronies and hold war profiteers accountable.

Sign this petition today to ask Secretary Gates to rescind the KBR bonuses, pursue criminal charges against the officials responsible for the electrocution deaths of U.S. soldiers, and stop awarding defense contracts to KBR.

Sign the petition:

"The former Halliburton subsidiary KBR is responsible for the deaths of 18 U.S. service members as a result of its shoddy and unprofessional electrical work. Instead of rewarding KBR with millions of dollars in bonuses, the Department of Defense must:

* Rescind the 80 million in bonuses already awarded to KBR
* Pursue criminal charges for negligent homicide against KBR/Halliburton officials who were responsible for the electrocution deaths of U.S. soldiers
* Immediately suspend the awarding of defense contracts to KBR and/or any KBR/Halliburton related entities

Secretary Gates, we the undersigned ask that you hold war profiteers accountable and safeguard the lives of our soldiers."

I don't think that KBR is as guilty as the self serving Cheney...But they both should go down for conspiring to share the ill gotten profits of war?...

Thanks Tom, a mutchly needed petition...Signed with glee!

Signed for sure! Just the thought of Dick Cheney and his crooked self makes me want to shot out, what the heck is going on in this world?? He keeps digging the whole deeper with his mouth. It is insane that this corruption not only happens, then they sit around and explain why and condone it. Just like the "waterboarding". Cheney himself has said he condones it, and they did it and were successful, yet when you read the truth, this horrible torture did not help with anything. From crime, corruption, bribery, the lobbyists, kickbacks and more... we need to turn around and run the other way. It is more than past time to clean up America in more ways that just pollution...

I wish someone could explain to me how these companies benefit our military. Corruption, ill gotten gains, our reputation and most important the lives of military service personnel. Other then feeding a profit machine just what are we doing? These companies continue to tarnish our already poor image in other countries, and yet I don't see any effort to change anything. Signed with disgust and vague hope of the end of the company, its policies and an even vaguer hope to see these people prosecuted.

I believe that all Dick Cheney has done is help kill more Americans. He was negligent before 9/11. I will quote what Oliver Cromwell said to Cheney, . "You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of god, go." Dick Cheney is a terrorist!

Yes Jan...Cheney is a dangerous, very intelligent man of profit, or a deranged man of no brain (certainly no conscience) at all?...

It scares the hell out of me that this guy is still getting any airplay at all! Why?...

Be you a Republican, Democrat or anyone else, can you not see the forrest for the trees?

Cheney belongs in prison, so I guess that shows the quality of the news we get nowadays here in America. Every time they bring up his crooked mug, I change the channel. As David says, this is a dangerous guy, not even worthy of being called a man. Wish someone would put him out of our misery. Kit, you have it right. I hope we get Universal Health Care and soon. But we know that the Rs in the Senate will try to stop this, just like they've tried to stop every piece of legislation that comes before them. Yes, I watch the Senate daily, and the Rs are already speaking up for the Insurance Companies, goes to show who pays them most.

This war profiteering is utterly disgusting. It's disgusting that a whole country's infrastructure is ruined, thousands or millions displaced, maimed and killed, terrible bombs such as daisy cutters and cluster bombs dropped, just so greedy, rich, powerful people can make even more money from suffering.

To think one of the engineers of the invasion and occupation is profiting from that very invasion is just too fishy and creepy.

Why? 'cos they are lining their friends pockets for doing their damn dirty work of course and let's not forget so that they have some people to associate with, same kind of moral interests when they finally squeeze the life out of the masses. They just don't want to be lonely at the top.

But, what are WE doing about it besides complaining?

It's easier than holding down a day job Mae?...And who cares?...He is rapidly re-appearing on the public scene, god knows why, or why anyone let's him?...A run up to the next electon?...Don't laugh...If people were stupid enough to elect Bush twice, why not Cheney?...He has a 52% majority vote already :-)

After all, he has a proven track record in the torture stakes...Recent polls indicate that 52% of Americans approve the use of torture!

What is happening to America?...Come back, we miss you!
