Industrial-style livestock operations increases the use of antibiotics in animals. Thousands of animals are crammed into the unhygienic, crowded quarters of a typical factory operation, and antibiotics are dispensed constantly through the animals' feed.

Leading to antibiotics in the meats and therefore in those who eat meat. This is one of the links in the chain that makes the super bugs. They are in our foods and over prescribed and of course, over used leaving us in a situation of the super bugs or bacterial infections that are not responsive to antibiotics.

The list of approved antibiotics allowed as daily or routine feed additives in Canada can be found at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/feebet/mib/mibtoce.shtml. There are other unpleasant surprises in this compendium that would gag a horse! Dr. Shiv Chopra, an ex Health Canada Microbiologist, was canned for blowing the whistle about being pressured to approve some of these ingredients. A good read if you want to see what kind of corruption takes place with the approvals of feed additives such as antibiotics "Corrupt to the Core - Memoirs of a Health Canada Whistleblower" by Dr. Shiv Chopra.

This is another reason to end factory farming ! Animals don't belong crowed in wharehouses and cramed in cages to small to turn around.

The whole meat industry and the methods used in the business is probably going to lead to the death of all of us, you are all so right. The whole system is corrupt and cruel. Thanks Tom

I persnally have not eaten meat in a very long time-my personal preference-there's abuse in more ways than one and not just with antibiotics in Factory Farming.

I don't eat meat either. A massive change of consumption habits could put an end to factory farming.
