Signed and Noted.. My husband just told me Ted Danson was the one that first started this day of celebration after he began being in the sit com Cheers. He wanted to give back to something worthwhile. He had seen after moving to California, and noticing beaches being closed, when he tried to take his daughter to them, and found out it was about the drilling off shore causing them to be closed. Thus he wanted to make a positive impact and began this. Here is the URL to Oceana, which is what he began.

I've watched the Straight of Georgia between the coast of British Columbia and Vancouver degenerate in the years since 1968 when I first moved here from New York. The body of water gets very little flushing, so the Killer whales which live there are heavily contaminated with many nasties.
But I also got to see the recovery of the Hudson to a state which may be even better than when I was born.
Natural systems can recover when we find better ways of doing things.

We do need international laws if we are to prevent more damage and help clean up our messes, like those plastic islands. But what is in the treaty. I don't know...do you?
