The expansion of Brazil's cattle sector is driving the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest and threatens to undermine Brazil's pledge to cut deforestation by 72 percent by 2018. The cattle industry is the largest source of deforestation in the world.

Thanxxx Tom, sherbet we eat tooooooooo much red meat anyhow, there needs to be an awareness regarding rthe ocnsumption of red meat. We are a nation that eats ways to much, and we really need to reduce these herds of cattle, there are way tooooooooooo many, and as a result they are taking over land that belongs to other animals and forests. they are worse than a plaque in real terms.

"There is much to mourn
In the rainforests' demise
Such a thing to be lost
For our selfish cries

For valuables that must be
Worth so more than life
To pursue such mass destruction
To pay such a heavy price

So, cry now for our loss
Our own creative blame
Lay flowers at the door
Hang our heads in shame"

Soon the won't be any land left anywhere that isn't either covered in cities or town or used to produce food for the human race. The only wild animals left won't be free - they will either be crammed into zoos or shelters or they will kept by us as either pets or food sources.

We are the destroyers of the world and it will not end with the destruction of the rainforest. Our greed and lust will be the downfall of the Earth.

What a surprise that supermarkets are complicit in the destruction of the rainforest! What will they do when the whole planet is concreted over import "Mars" bars from the Martians?

Tom thanks for this update and based on this statement which i copied from the text of the news item , clearly boycotts are in order as are petitions against the companies Greenpeace has mentioned here.

The investigation indicates the “laundering” of leather and beef into supply chains of top brands such as Adidas, Reebok, Nike, Clarks, Timberland, Geox, Gucci, IKEA, Kraft, and Wal-Mart.
