The caricature of 'socialized medicine' is used by corporate interests to confuse Americans and maintain their bottom lines instead of patients' health while 46 million people go uninsured and healthcare bills bankrupt over a million Americans every year.

Thanks, Tom!

Here's a bit more:

Real Canadians Stick Up For Universal Health Care

To see how well a universal health care system like Canada's actually works, we went straight to the source: actual Canadians. "Anyone who
cries 'Socialism!' or 'Communism!' to prevent Americans from achieving universal health care is a liar and a thief

Our friends at Sadly, No! take a look at the actual outcomes between the US and Canada. I don't think it will surprise you to see that the U.S. system doesn't measure up so well:

Geithner Hints Dems Will Move Ahead On Health Care Without Republican Support - If They Must

When I think of how much the Bush administration shoved down the country's throat on strictly partisan votes, it makes me crazy when Democrats start talking about being bipartisan. This kind of talk by Tim Geithner on This Week with Geo. Stephanopoulous

Thanks Tom...Great post that, hopefully, a few right wHingers might read and reconsider their power and profits before people slant on unreality...

"Unfortunately, many Americans won't get to hear the straight goods because vested interests are promoting a caricature of the Canadian experience"...

And, unfortunately too many are too ready to blindly follow the 'party line' rather than considering the real needs of real people...

I am so tired of the people who shout out how horrible Canada's health care system is, like it was some backwards Country that didn't know what they were doing. I have friends/family in Canada, have gone to visit with them each year, have even lived there for short periods in my life. Certainly you can find the few disgruntled people who are not happy with how something went and I'm sure these are the ones that are thrown onto our TV as the example of how "all Canadians feel". For the most part the people I speak to in Canada are much more pleased with what they have. They are horrified when they think how they would have to manage if they were having to live under a United States system for health care. Even the disgruntled ones, when I inquire further, would still rather stick to their Countries way of doing things than switch to ours.

This article may be generally accurate, but "Universal Health Care" in Canada still needs some work and Americans could learn from the flaws in our system. Health care here is not universal in the sense that in remote communities, unfortunately mostly aboriginal, services enjoyed by Canadians living in more populated areas, are not as accessible. Families often need to split up for long periods of time or relocate for long periods of time when hospitalization or other health care services are necessary.

The statement in this article that Canadians have "free choice" of physicians is not quite true. I have been living in the same community for 11 years and I have to visit a walk-in clinic almost an hour's drive from my home. Because of a doctor shortage, there is no one closer who will take me as a patient. When I access the walk-in clinic I am told that because of the doctor shortage here, I am not entitled to preventative health care (ie: routine physicals). The doctor shortage here is a result of the disparity between American Health Care and Canadian Health Care. Our healthcare workers are going south of the border because that's where the money is.

Additionally, if Americans think they can escape the influence of big Pharma by deploying a Universal Health Care program they may be kidding themselves. Big Pharma has no scruples and a huge budget. They can and do find ways to exploit new opportunities and failing that, they litigate.

Noted, as a Canadian who has lived in the USA I can only say, Thank God I am a Canadian, and can get health care. Like anything, there will always be some problems, BUT every Canadian has health care, and you have the opportunity to purchase extra plans to top it off. The American who do not want it are those who can afford it. 46 million people in the USA without health care of any kind, is disgusting for a country like the USA. Do not believe what the Republicans are saying, it is a scare tactic..take it from one who has been on both sides of this issue.

I'm tired of the lies and the hyperbole designed to frighten the american public into thinking they will wait months to even see a doctor and over a year to see an oncologist, of course according to the fear mongers, they will die a horrible death from cancer while on the waiting list for an appointment. Give me a break.

Tampa Town Hall On Health Care Reform Disrupted By Violence
(VIDEO)

Police officers were called to calm down an unruly crowd outside a health care reform town hall meeting in downtown Tampa, Florida on Thursday evening, according to local news reports.

Angry protesters screamed, yelled and banged on windows as officers hurried to guard the entrances to the facility, where U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor was trying to discuss the various health care reform proposals being debated in Congress. One photojournalist said that a fistfight broke out inside the building, reports WTSP.

Many of the hundreds of protesters said that they had been inspired by a conservative activist group promoted by Fox News host Glenn Beck and some received emails from the county Republican party, according to the St. Petersburg Times.....

The Tampa Tribune reports that some protesters carried racist caricatures of President Obama and added details of more fights and scuffles.....

A good article, but I don't think it will influence the thugs hired to do fearmongering to try to ensure that health care is denied to millions.
