In the global race to develop green technology and stem climate change, China is now a leading producer of solar panels and wind turbines. It also dominates the lesser-known technology of solar water heaters, installed in over 30 million Chinese homes.

Friends of mine put in a solar hot water heater about a year ago. Congratulation to the Chinese for seeing through the fog of pollution and working to change it back into clean air while still offering modernization.

Oh my,..does this mean it can be done in less then 50 years? Yes, there really are options to poisoning our environment and no we don't have to just wait till the oil companies position themselves to own the sun - wind - water and all of nature. Sorry - that was so un-American of me.

So the Chinese are concerned about this planet. They should also start realizing that other forms of life is important too.

Thanks Kit and Julie!

The article says, "Using principles of solar heating more than a century old, the humble, low-cost devices consist of an angled row of cola-colored glass tubes that absorb heat from the sun. The most common models fill the tubes with cold water. As it heats, the water rises into an insulated tank where it can remain hot for days."

This is not new technology. Solar heaters were "popular in some parts of the United States around the turn of the 20th century before being made obsolete by cheap natural gas." Too bad the natural gas companies won out over the solar heater companies. Reminds me of "Who killed the electric car?"

And Kit, your no more un-American than Goofus ;)
