Conservative Bible Project Cuts Out Liberal Passages

Lo and behold, the Bible has gotten too liberal, according to a group of conservatives. And it needs a little editing. That's the inspiration behind the Conservative Bible Project, which seeks to take the text back to its supposed right-wing roots.

This isn't anything new; it has been going on since men first dreamed up the book of horror stories and fairytales that was based on the stories found in ancient Sumerian Clay Cylinders which out date the "Bible" by thousands of years. The "Bible" version has only passing resemblance to the original stories found in the cylinders.

Plus many of the stories were left out, like the Gospel of Mary Magdalene. That anyone would think that Jesus was a conservative is a joke. If he were alive today he would be going after today's moneylenders -- the bankers.

What are they going to add/change this time? "Thou SHALT kill" ? Maybe the "C Street" senators can get in on the act since they are so good at manipulating the bible to suit them.

Thanks, Tom.

One reason I find Jesus so fascinating is that he is the ultimate liberal. If he were here today,he would be kicking ass and taking names later over the way people are treated, taxed and disposed of.

These people are not believers in Christ. They are propaganda boondogglers and liars who use religion to advance their crappy agendas.

This is the ultimate in Christian hypocrisy because at the very end of the Bible is a Warning goes like this......

Revelations 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

This is entirely why I have never found solace in any mainstream religion ... each and every one of them already reads the bible and interprets it differently.

The most imprtant thing to remember is the 10 commandments and the words of Jesus. They can change everything else but the 10 commandments and his words will remain.I believe the end is coming soon. When I see them board up a cross in the middle of the desert so noone can see it because a federal judge forced them to,I know he will be here soon.Story in society and culture yesterday.

Jesus rocks... he came so that we could be free... he was awesome and does not want us to have a religious mentality.. the Pharisees were like that.. a form of such godliness, but inside they were full of heresies... like white wshed tombs on the outside, but black on the inside... Jesus jorled around with everyone, never judged, never criticised, but was a man of compassion, love, understanding patience and was the greatest teacher of all time... he has given us the Holy Spirit to which is awesome who comes in with all those wonderful gifts... people that want to change the word of God, will only heap up indignation up themselves, as he has said anyone that adds to this or takes away... these things will be added to them... Religion and christianity are not the same... Religion is bondgae with traditions and one lives under the law... when Jesus came he took away the law, and gave us freedom.. hence the new testament.. as he to was the ultimate sacrifice and that the law is taken away in HIm... sherbet I am not going to live under man's laws.... he came to set me free and I am free indeed.. I don't want sit under some religious nut pointing his finger at me telling me what to do and what not to do.... Jesus was all about the do, and anot the dont's...

This doesn't directly pertain ...and yet, it certainly is the same kind of censorship as this article has in it.

In high school, we had a nun-librarian who would take art books, encyclopedias, etc. and, with a black marker, color out all the pictures she felt were objectionable for high school students to see!! Evan way back then (in the dark ages), it was wrong, and we certainly protested until her black marker was taken away! :)

This is just about the most insanely ridiculous thing I have ever seen! It is already bad enough they have decided to burn books that are classics in front of public libraries, and not allow children to read them. Only in this screwed up nation would we remotely allow these fanatics to "edit" the Bible! Then people sit and wonder why our country is in the messed up, mixed up shape it is in. When did it get to the point some people think Americans are so stupid, they cannot read a book from Mark Twain, and now the Lord, and decide for themselves the right and wrong from it??? With all of the horrible things going on in our own country and our the globe, why don't this bunch of fools use their time in a wise way to help stop Domestic Violence, put our economic situation back on track, get health care reform with a public option to pass, help stop global warming, get the lobbyists out of our governmental issues, reform Wall Street, stop the greed and corruption, get people's jobs back, help stamp out illnesses such as MS, Cancer, AIDS, Lupus, CFS, Chronic Pain and other Chronic Illnesses, stop the terrorists attacks, educate our youth, rid our nation of gangs, illegal drugs, and the list is endless. Oh NO, they have to now pick on the Bible! Every time I think I have heard of everything, something else comes along to make me have less and less faith in the public.

GRRRR...all I can say on this...there is so much more issues that are way so important. We can't have censorship of the Bible, it is like censoring the Constitution for what people don't like and still they have at that too!!!

Take this cross down, ban books, gotta think when we start doing that aren't we turing into the society we fought against in Hilter's age?

Thanks Tom

I find it very humorous so many people really think Jesus was a real person and not another mythological being, like Zeus and Hercules. I also find it a bit odd this got so many notes, but this story is still sitting all alone, with 15 notes. http://www.care2.com/news/member/804250671/1267702

Frankly, I am in totaly amazement at some of these comments about Jesus being a Myth! To me, I don't believe in the "Big Bang" theory, and was brought up to believe in The Lord Almighty.

It is hard to even to think that the "Big Bang" put all of these special creatures on earth and everything just sprung up from it. That would put Man (instead of Adam) coming from Apes, and if we did, we sure as "blank" don't have the sense and compassion that APES do.

I firmly believe that they should leave the Bible alone, all of these "haters" out there on the Bible leave it alone, let children see both sides and form their own ingellegent opinion. I don't go around and SHOVE the Bible down peoples throat, but had an ex that that went to MIT and shoved the Big Bang theory down my throat! Hated it, did take my step sons to church so they could make up their mind and see both sides. It is always to be aware of all of peoples opinions, but leave the money alone, let it state "in God we trust"...If we start messing with everything what do we have left?

Leave the Bible as it was first written! The bible teaches forgiveness, tolerance and compassion, what does the Big Bang teach us? NADA!

Was brought up that way, and though I do not attend church every single Sunday, will always personally believe was I was brought up with! To edit, ban the Bible to me is just wrong.

Everyone does need compassion, hope etc...and that is what the Bible does teach us! Just my humble opinion.

TOM! __KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, the MOVIE... !
ALL SHOULD EITHER RENT IT FIRST, THOUGH OWN IT... AWESOME MOVIE!!!
...has alot of "Yeah, I know of "Christians" VIOLATING PEOPLE TOO!" in it.

HISTORY HOLDS MANY MANY MULTITUDE OF FACTS
ABOUT THE "ENTITLEMENT" of "Christian SECTS AND CULT MEMBERS"
to VIOLENTLY ASSAULT LIVES!

THE "CULTS OF CHRISTIANS" impose and LABOR to HARASS us with their RELIGION:
VERY OFTEN ONE DOES FIND the Christians DEMANDING
THEIR RELIGION IS THE ONLY RELIGION!!!!!)
and A RELIGION of Christian EXISTING FOR MURDER's INTENT
and WAR MONGERING
and GREED
and RAPING IN TERRORISM SO MANY LIVES and in particular FEMALE LIVES
and "LIEING AGAINST OTHERS" to GAIN OTHER's PROPERTIES
as well as TO ENSLAVE PEOPLE to them and their "Christianity"!!!
AND
these TYRANTS TRYING TO "HOLE UP" in the name of "JESUS" and or "A BIBLE"!
OF COURSE, that is ACTUAL LITERAL HISTORY.

and be bit more of a chore for those IMPOSING their "SELF INTERESTS"
in altering other BOOKS than their TOOTED "BIBLE"!!!

There is
the FACTOR that the "Christians" spew out WARS and INSIST on VIOLENCE.
THEIR CHURCHES "hole up" RAPISTS, WIFE BEATERS, AND OTHER HEINOUS CRIMINALS.

It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal god and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious, then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.
~ Albert Einstein

ROME "called out as a "WHORE" among the NATIONS for its BRUTALITY
and for its INSISTANCE ON RELIGION to the masses:
ROME...A TYRANT
ROME...A WAR MONGER
ROME...HATED BY NATIONS OF PEOPLE
ROME...CLAIMING WOMEN SOME SECOND TO males SPECIES VIOLATED WOMEN
ROME...ENVY FILLED OF OTHER NATIONS INSTEAD OF APPRECIATIVE

ROME ATTEMPTED TO FORCE RELIGION under Christianity upon masses of people:

Christianity became the official religion of Rome in 315.
In AD 391, the worship of other gods was made illegal.
Christians started burning pagan temples
and killing the pagan priests.
The carnage continued non-stop into the 6th century.
Temples destroyed by Christian mobs
included the Sanctuary of Aesculap in Aegaea,
the Temple of Aphrodite in Golgatha,
Aphaka in Lebanon, and the Heliopolis.
Christian priests such
as Mark of Arethusa or Cyrill of Heliopolis
were famous as "temple destroyers."

ROME WAS DESTROYED... !
The Roman empire in the end
was overrun by millions of barbarians
from the north and east of Europe.
It is believed
to have happened two or three times in history
that huge migrations took place across Europe,
where peoples moved to settle in new territories.
The great migration proved too much for the Romans to stem.
Their armies were designed to defeat other armies,
not entire folks and peoples flooding toward them.
The collapse was completed
when Rome itself was conquered by the Visigoth Odoacer
and his men in the year AD 476.

YET THE GREED FILLED ROMAN BLOOD LUSTS CONTINUED ON in a sense:

"I am surrounded by priests
who repeat incessantly that their kingdom is not of this world,
and yet
they lay their hands on everything they can get." -- Napoleon Bonaparte

I love you
when you bow in your mosque,
kneel in your temple,
pray in your church.
For you and I are sons of one religion,
and it is the spirit.

For those "christian" hypocrites who absolutely know that Jesus is "coming soon," you must have a head up your nose. God says even Jesus does not know the time nor the place he will return. I CAN truthfully say the Lord would not last 30 days, much less 33 years before some right wing fundie would try to crucify him again. So go ahead, rewrite your Bible, and see how many lives it changes. Folks---these people NEVER change... same stry and dance everytime they turn around. Ughhh!!!

Whether it is God, Jesus, the Dinosaurs, Science or whatever someone believes, it is wrong to make fun of someones beliefs and even more wrong to push their beliefs down anothers throat ! Which is what is happening in this country today by a specific group of people. Religious terrorists . How dare anyone mess with the Bible for their own agenda's. These are homegrown terrorists that need to be stopped now! It soon will be like Afghanistan and the taliban or Al Queda all religious terrorists full of hatred. Do we really want this???

Thanks NAN!!! Needed some help to actually get back on base with what this article was about, taking the Bible and taking things out!!! That to me is just like taking Books during Hitler's year and burning everything he didn't believe in.....

That to me is WRONG!!! People need to see everything out there, in my humble opinion, both good and bad, and this article is telling about people attacking the Bible, we all need to have an enlightment, be knowledgeable, be aware, see both sides, don't see just one thing or the other.

Yes, some people don't believe in life after death, Yippe for you, but frankly, if I didn't believe I would not see my special best friends and my relatives I would be totally lost!

This action against religion needs to stop. It was there with our founding fathers, why distroy this now? I am so confused why people get so upset about this...

It was set in stone before any of US were ever born!!! Let's get on another subject and let the Bible stay like it was, I don't care let all of the books stay, not having a problem with that at all, just don't like to have censorship in the worst form personally!!!

I have said my piece, and thank you Gorrily girl for your comments!!

The comments here are very interesting. I did not actually see anyone throwing stones at each other and that is to be commended.

For most people, they look at the Bible as being something to do with "Religion". I might just give a thought or two concerning this book called the Bible and hope not to tread on any toes but also to back up those who feel that the Bible is bandied around wrongly. Both those for the Bible and those against the Bible. If you disagree with me, thats all right but at least think about this.

God claims authorship. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and profitable for Doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto ALL good works.
Well, that is a bit of a slap in the face for those who use the Bible wrongly and who are determined to change it to make it look how they want it to.

If we are honest enough to take a real look at the Bible and see just what it has to say for itself we just might be a little cautious about what we demand of others.

First, God claims that He owns the Universe and that everything in it belongs to Him. He does have some opposition by one who Jesus called a murderer from the beginning. Anything that is done against any person or any creature is in fact done against Him (God) personally. They belong to Him so He IS involved whether we like it or not. Those who claim to be Christians and do awful things to others are in fact doing it against God, the one they claim to worship. Sort of punching Him in the face really and then we expect Him to keep quiet about it???
God has laid out for us (IF we care to study it) the very best way of life and then ASKS us to live by that code of ethics IF WE LOVE HIM! There is No coercion, No demands, No force, just a simple request and that because we love Him. God also forewarns us of what happens when we do the wrong thing. What the results both short and ultimately will be when we break the code. It is not arbitrary, just cause and effect like a simple statement, Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. You plant watermelon seeds and watermelpns grow NOT lettuce or potatoes, just watermelons. If you plant the seeds of hate then you will get the fruit that comes from hate. You can not change the basics and expect something different.

There have been so many "new" translations of the Bible put out which are supposed to make it easier to understand. Unfortunately, most of those translations have all been taken from a couple of documents which were considered unfit for accuracy way back when they were originally written. There are over 90 manuscripts which pretty well agree with each other and collected from various parts of the world and they are the ones that were used to bring us the King James Version. Unfortunately, to try and bring the KJV into disrepute and scorn, these other socalled translations have been put forward as so much better. The other unfortunate thing is that many verses are either left out or the meanings have been changed and one would question why this has happened. Simple answer, "We don't like the restrictions and so we changed it".

With this socalled New translation that they are trying to bring out, is it for the purpose of upholding the ancient information or is it just to back up their misuse of the Bible so that they can use force to make others join them. Well, the King James Bible tells us that in these last days THAT is what will happen. Revelation 13: 16 - 18 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, (this is all about their "works") or in their foreheads (they THINK its the right thing to do)
And that NO man might buy or sell, save he that hath the mark of the Beast, or the number of his name.

This is total coercion supposedly in the name of God but in fact GOD is totally against this power. That power is working in the world today and we foolishly call it "Christianity". It opposes everything that God has put in place and then has the audacity to say it is talking for God.

I could say much more but folks would think I was preaching so will not. There are many many readers who have seen this misuse of the Bible to force others but they forget to study it for themselves to see the terrible things done in the name of Christianity. Just watch what will happen in the next year and you will be astounded just how low this will get. You all saw a lot of it happening during the last presidency and you did not realise that God had already foretold this would happen when men went away from the straight teachings of the Scriptures and included the desires of powerful men who claim they follow God but in fact follow His opposition.
Really, we do get just what we deserve but NOT what we want. Another Bible? More $$$$$ in the coffers of false religion which is about the same thing that has happened with all these other "better" translations. just $$$$ in the coffers. Some folks have 3 or 4 and some up to ten of these mistranslations. Who got all the $$$? My bet is that they weren't used to feed the hungry or to lift those in squalor to a better life. Look after the rich and piddle in their pockets so they think they are doing the right thing

What amazes me about this newest assault on the Bible, is that it is being changed by the very ones who claim themselves to be Conservative Christians. These very same "God Fearing" Christians, are going against what they claim is the word of God, to make it better!? I think not! As has been noted here already, those who add to or take away from the word of God, will suffer for it.

Just because you call yourself a Christian, does not mean you are one. Look at people like Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck who call themselves Christians, yet act and talk like the very people they abhore. To me a "good Christian" is a person who who does the right things in life, even if their beliefs might not be coming from the same "book" as mine.

What is all the fuss! The Christian Taliban of America has been picking and choosing what they want from their antiquated, politically engineered handbook for social, economic and political control of the masses for years. At least now they are doing it out in the open, with a publicly stated agenda, just like King James did! It was to be expected, the early church did it by banning Books and Gospels to unify their base and facilitate pogroms to eliminate their opposition. The thing to beware of is when they get their terrorists to start bombing and assassinating more than just the occasional womens health clinic or doctor. These people are as I have been calling them, for some time now, the Christian Taliban of America, they are religious extemists using terrorist methods to achieve a religious, social, political goal, their Christian Sharia based on their new bible as the sole fondation of the Constitution of the United States of America and all of its laws. And quite frankly they scare me. We have a Supreme Court controlled by the extreme right pushing gun ownership with fewer safe guards, giving corporate cartels all the rights and privileges of individuals without the same responsiblities or the same legal jeopardies. We have a Congress that, Democrat and Repugnican alike, is willing to violate the Constitution,Article 1, section 9 that specifically prohibits 'bills of attainder'-bills that specifically target specific individuals or groups for legislative actions, and pass in both Houses 'The Defund Acorn ACt of 2009'to strip ACORN of it's Federal funding based solely on the unproved and unsubstantiated accusations of right-wing opperatives without investigatin, charges being filed or prosecuted and with no trial or conviction. No I do not digress, consider what that same unconstitutional process is capable of doing in the hands of the Christian Taliban of America to further their agenda by targating individuals, groups, other churches that get in their way, Be afraid!

Amen Lloyd. "Christian" Taliban. They want to push the Bible agenda and look supposedly good BUT they do not fool God. Another verse says, "Not all who say Lord Lord hear my voice. I will declare to them "Depart from Me, I never knew you.

That is one very interesting story. At the final showdown there will only be two camps. The Righteous saved and the evil lost. Both are amazed at the final declaration. The Righteous, who recognise their unrighteousness and when they are told to enter the Joy of the Lord, say"When did we do these things that were so wondeful? We do not remember them!" To which God says, "Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you did it unto me!" (we treated them as if it was Christ and how we would treat Him) That means just how we treat the downtrodden, the poor, the sick, the orphans, the unlovely and apparent unloveable and how we treated the animals etc, all those things are taken into account and likewise for the unsaved, they receive the statement "Depart from me ye workers of iniquity, you shall receive your just reward, you have treated those same ones that the righteous treated only you hated them, you treated them with terror you trod on them and since you did it to them, YOU DID IT TO ME."

God is Just and loves everyone but many who say they love Him do it only for the reward they think they are going to get, but because of their hate filled lives, they will be destroyed and many who were downtrodden by them WILL have eternal life with God, the ONE who does care about people.

There will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, but mostly by those who thought they were so righteous and had built up in their minds the glory they were going to share and they missed out. JUSTICE WILL BE DONE.

The extreme right are very quick to point out that the law of God has been done away with and that leaves them free to do what they want to others. Unfortunately for them and fortunate for those who accept it, Christ paid the penalty for every persons sin but He does not force it onto them. He just asks that people accept Him as their Saviour, the Ultimate sin bearer who takes away the sin of the world. The invitation is given but few want to accept it. the rest will be obliterated because they have NO protection from the results of their evil ways. Christian Taliban--you got it right Lloyd. AND Justice WILL be done.

And just one more point, When rightly read and put together, the Bible is a book for the teaching of people to be righteous, the lessons are pretty explicit as to what happens when we digress. the retribution that comes is NOT something that God thinks up and zaps people with. It is just the result of sowing evil and reaping the results.

God does not have to do anything but check that everyone gets their just deserts. Those who accept His protection do not suffer the consequences of an evil life. something that we are not able to fathom but God asks us to accept that He will keep His Word even though we are all liars, God can not lie. Titus 1 verse 2. If God can not lie then we are the liars and place ourselves in the ranks of satan who WILL be destroyed as it is he who has brought all this suffering on this world. Sorry, I got a bit carried away there. So many have NO idea how different God is to supposed Christianity They are claiming His name but not his nature and most folks can see that but are not sure what to do about it.

I forgot, King james was favorable to the Protestants, THAT is why his name was blackened. A Protestant was and IS a good Catholic believer who protests about what HIS church is doing wrong. Prophecy covers so much of what would happen over the period of time from the end of the first century right up to the end of time. It is a very interesting subject when put side by side with history. The Church has MUCH to answer for.

It looks as though the Bible still has the abiliity to get those on both sides of the debate off their collective butts! Now wouldn't that be good if that energy was directed into something useful like animal welfare or human rights! Whether Jesus was a real historical figure, whether his earthly raemains exist or not whether he was married and had flesh and blood offspring or not is not really the issue! The Bible was the product of a thousand committees, authors and censors. Anything vaguely against the then conventional wisdom of the early church was edited out. The thousand of subsequent translations revisions etc have added Catholic, Protestent, Orthodox and a whole host of other bias to each version. The end product is somewhat removed from the Jesus of the edited version let alone the probable Jesus, myth or reality! Certainly there is no evdence that Jesus did not espouse free healthcare. His ministry and demeanour even as reported in the most emasculated Bibles is such that he was put to death for his "Terrorism" Certainly the immense canon of sayings atributed to Jesus have no place in the traditionlal Republicon or Conservative agenda and on that simple fact one can be sure it would be not only money changers who he would be overturning the tables of but the Japanese whaling fleet, Spanish bull atrocities especially those carried out in his name, and all manner of evil and corruption like child molestors, rapists, destroyers of nature and polluters people who harm anyone etc etc. Now if any of you anti religionists can convince me that that is a bad thing then you might also convince me to vote Republicon or Conservative ie those parties that stand for elitism and personal wealth to the exclusion of compassion and care! In the UK of course New Labour is the same as the Conservative party it sole aim in life is the propagation of class hatred and the promotion of the rich and powerful! Now who were we talking about oh yes Jesus would of course have been unlikely to vote for any political party! It has always been a mystery to me why certain right wing parties would want to align themselves with Christianity when Christ's principles are so diametrically opposed to right wing philosophy! Whether you believe in Jesus or God is a matter of your own personal consideration however even as a non believer the wisdom of Jesus fact or fiction is undeniable for those with even a two cell redneck brain! One wonders whether the new revision will take this onboard, The new Beatitudes will perhaps include Blessed are the Oil Barons for they shall be slimey, Blessed are the Avon Ladies for they will see Beauty, Blessed are the Politicians for they shall see no corruption, Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall send arms to Israel, Blessed are the members of Care2 for they shall blog all day and all night, Blessed are the KFC,McD and the Coke for they shalt inherit obesity for the rest of their days! Anyway you get the picture, language and message are something all to often forgotten in the intractibility of debate. However I do love the comment about the oxymoronic biblical literalism but would add that the comment only becomes oxymoronic iif the the statement is falacious and clearly to those that believe the literal truth of the Bible this would not be an oxymoron, ain't semantics wonderful! Any further Beattitudes would be appreciated. Here endeth the lesson! The Turin Shroud is commented on in that thread!

His satanic majesty, the murderer from the beginning is probably laughing his sinister face off as he watches the discussions from both sides. As long as we argue backwards and forwards instead of presenting the Real Love of God, he is winning his battle for survival, but only till all have had the opportunity to decide either for God and Jesus or for satan and his final demise.
You are right, we should be getting off our butts and sharing the real gospel, not the crapp. Thanks for the dig Chris. Trouble is that things get so misrepresented by the "Christians" that it appears that many of those so called "missing" gospeels seem as though they might have something to offer that is more sense than what is being churned out.

There is some strong evidence that some of those "discarded" gospels were contradictory to the majority of the accepted text. Vaticanus and Sinaticus were two of those discarded but which have been now put forward as supposedly THE most perfect ancient text simply because it is supposedly the "oldest". The differences between just hose two run into some thing like over 9,000 texts whereas the texts from the 90 other manuscripts have very little difference even though they were collected from many countries. Methinks that 90 widely spread texts that agree are much more accurate than a few which are rather contradictory even with each other. There were a number of spurious "gospels" that have been traced back to men who falsified who they really were and used the names of others to try and get some "authority".

The information regarding these falsified doctrinal issues reads like some incredible mixmash of gobbledy goop but there are always those who will present them as supposedly being more worthy than the 66 books in the Bible. Just what part of the Bible is really under challenge? Probably just the ten Commandments which are referred to as the perfect Law of Liberty. Stay within the guidelines of the ten Commandments (Original, not so called " Christian" perverted) and said to be done away with because jesus died on the cross. (So one can do as they please and treat men and women in any horrific way they so choose and its supposed to be OK. The Ten Commandments spell out our responsibility first to God and then to our fellow man. Do away with the ones to God and there appears to be NO standard left for the responsibility to our fellow man. Break one and you break the lot.

Why is there so much suffering in the world today? Men and Women have NO respect for God, THE Creator. They worship their own opinions above God and therefore worship themselves just as Lucifer did and caused the beginning of evil and then he pushed it among the angels to the point that he and his followers had to be put out of heaven. he got a foothold here in this world but no other world throughout the universe would let him in. We are the place in the universe which is the proving ground between good and evil. Most folks choose to put their heads in the sand and say it all evolved regardless of how much evidence there is to the contrary.

Well, we get just what we deserve and then complain most vigorously about it. Serves us right. We are so smart and God doesn't exist. Well, in our minds anyway. Call that B/S if you so desire, its no skin off my nose unless I begin to believe the same rubbish and then I am just as bad and stupid as the next person. I know who my Redeemer is and He is my Personal Friend. He is one wonderful Person. AND He loves the down trodden.

Well, I should be surprised but I am not. I think they will try to take things out like David loving Jonathan more than all his wives and anything else that might keep them from practicing their bigotry! What does amaze me at times is Man's pompousness! How dare they think they can edit the Bible anytime they want!

What is so hypocritical is these "far rights" use the Bible constantly, mostly the old testament, to try to justify their phobias and prejudices and now they want to edit it, LOL! Give me a frickin break!

What's in your heart will be how you are judged. Love your neighbor as yourself!

Those who want everyone to see both sides to this are only it seems speaking from one side. How can anyone say they don't believe in the big bang, but do in g-d, then give the impression that it is wrong to not believe in g-d and the big bang theory? If they are trying to get people to see both sides?

People this book has been edited and taken apart more then once, if you are seeing with your own eyes now how the Church can just up and do this and not be in any way shape of form questioning this from its first public print up to now, is really showing some of us how blinded those who follow a one sky g-d religion really can be.

I am not trying to belittle or show hatred, for that is not even a word in my dictionary or something I believe in. In fact I am seeing this from both sides and usually when I am lied to I am angry about it and try to get the person who lied to me to either own up, or I reject them.

I am not one who likes to be chastised for my educated view on one sky g-d religions. As I try not to do towards those who whole heartily believe in it.

Just maybe God actually did the big bang herself! Conventional religions are so young as to be of no consequence in the geological time scale and of course the moment you delve into specifics you will find those that can produce evidence for example, that Nazereth did not exist in the supposed cronological time of Jesus and similer stuff that would tend to debunk the religionists standpoint! However if one stands back a little and acepts for one moment the premise that God is all powerful, and I realise this is difficult with so many politicians also vying for that spot then the normal time frame can be shrunk, altered or extended at will. For example we will often explain life expectancy in animals by reference to so many human years equating to a specific animal, Thus a ten year old cat is considered getting on for 70 human years. Now God having so much more time skewing ability than us mere mortals would be able to do that in the geological time frame or you have to accept the absurdity of the Old Testment Jewish god being 6000. The new Testament Christian God being 2000 and say the Moslem God being 1400 or so. That is of course if one relates the age of God to the specific date of human enlightenment in each case! All sorts of anomalies exist in religion another bizarre example might be the relics of the true cross which apparently if all collected together would amount to minor deaforestaion for what must only have been a couple of rough planks nailed together! Such is the power of faith and that's fine by me when it does not impinge on those who choose not to believe or manifest itself in wars, terrorism, or cruel practises involving humans or animals!

Well, the posting was about some specific group of people who are editing the Bible to make it more conservative. Staying on topic, I'd suggest that anyone who believes in God would (based on study of human nature) be reluctant to do such a thing. We would expect believers to behave differently; they could go back to the original and translate it into English, or they could go back to the earliest English translations, but to edit it to fit their view -- seems to invite lightning strikes or something wrathful like that.

The rest of this seems to be pretty far off topic, so I'm reluctant to comment on that part of debate. The one point I would like to highlight is the point made by several people that we come to Care2 to work together on really important issues - the environment, animal treatment, cruelty in general, pollution, climate change, species and habitat preservation, and so much more. I want us to continue to work together as a caring and involved and compassionate community and that purpose knows no specific religion. I agree, again, with others who have noted that we can not, must not, let divisive issues like the off-topic discussions here distract and divide us and interfere with the good work we are doing every day.

I'll go off topic a bit for this reason. Yesterday I was out all day and turned on the news for a quick moment before heading back out. I saw a commercial that made me stop dead. Someone is advertising to advocate FOR animal testing. They are trying to shape opinions in the US (it was a cable channel) to be more in favor of animal testing and making the claim that it is useful and works. Now, I've not seen that before - could this be in response to all the good work that Care2 folks and others have done (starting long before I got here) to make inroads into the acceptance of these practices? Could they be getting more flak and more resistance than they are willing to accept? Are animal testers feeling threatened? I LIKE This!

I'm willing to leave the Bible editors to the wrath of God (or express it as Karma or whatever you like). What goes around comes around. In the meantime, I'm NOT willing to leave these abusers, the cruel people, the killers, the polluters, the mining companies and drilling companies, the corrupt government agencies who sell us out, and all the others to their business. So I'm taking my inner philosopher and heading back to the Petition Site. Please, all of you, everyone, come join me!

I never got into those newly revised version where the Lutheran church tried to "mod" up the text. I just like the regular old King James bible. Of course, I would prefer the bible that hasn't been edited to death by certain powers over the ages. For example, all references to reincarnation were removed. Well, not ALL of them. There are still a couple in there.

They can't edit my bible. It's sitting on my shelf. HA HA SO THERE! :P

I gave Jodi a green star the other day. I love that she brought up the part of scripture about what happens to the people who take away or add to the Bible. The conservatives have a really nasty surprise waiting for them even if they take out the very parts of scripture that Jodi points out.

The conservatives probably will take out those passages thinking "There, now it's alright. Nothing will happen to us if we eliminate those passage from Revelations. Remember the scene in Raiders of The Lost Ark when the Nazis opened up the Ark? That is what I wish on the conservatives who take out those and any other passages that don't agree with them. They are messing with a Power beyond their comprehension.

One reason I find Jesus so fascinating is that he is the ultimate liberal. If he were here today,he would be kicking ass and taking names later over the way people are treated, taxed and disposed of.

Yes, Raine, you are right. Only Jesus would have used his first amendment rights to protest and would have been thrown in jail for opposing the "powers that be." Jesus would have been a liberal and would probably not even be a Democrat, probably would have found the party system distasteful and hypocritical.

Thank you to all those who pointed out that man has NO right to change the Scriptures. Religion has been doing its best to make the changes and that is WRONG. Just because there is something written there that points out sin in MY life does NOT give me the right to try and change that law. My responsibility is to accept that I can be wrong and do something about changing ME instead of the Bible which tells me what I SHOULD be doing.

The ideals of Care 2 are pretty close to the ideals of the Scriptures. It sure was a good place to start, so, what are we sitting around twiddling our fingers for? We know what e should be doing, Go to and do it. Just don't let the changers influence us in the wrong direction.

Deborah, Deborah, please tell me you are using raiders as a visual aid and you don't believe the film is straight history and fact! Good entertainment it certainly was but like the Davinci Code and much of the same genre it is much on fiction with a smattering of facts! I have had serious discussions with those who beleive those sort of films are Sir David Attenborough style documentories (Attenborough is famous for playing the floor polisher with a symphony orchestra and of course better known for his superb BBC TV factual nature documentories) Sorry but that is how your comment came across and I apologise if I have misinterpreted. I do however get what you mean by blinding flashing energy enveloping those that transgress which is what I presume you meant! The Jesus we all know to me would be unlikely to align himself with any polititical group and even less those of the right as his hallmark activity was care and compassion nor traits exhibited by many if any plitical parties least of all those on the right who mainly propagate selfishness and the promotion of me me me to the detriment of the rest! Like Jews were scapegoted along with many others in Nazi Germany so current tensions have to do with the inbuilt psyches desire to offet personal blme elsewhere and of course if someones racial characteristics are ovious then they make a convenient target! Of course the double blow to the repugnant right is losing office to a black man! And as he has just won the Nobel Peace Prize they will probably be gnashing their cosmetic teeth and there will be much weeping!

Well the only real answer to this conundrum is to revert to the original three main languages the Bible was assembled (bearing mind it is highly unlikely that many of the actors on the biblical stage could write) from even before it was translated into Latin and thence into the vulgate. We will all have to learn Ancient Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic, the later most likely the language of Jesus according to most scholars! Even without editing the loss on each subsequent translation is likely to have distorted the original and if you add translator bias and editorial input and the spin factor elicited by the Church it becomes a simple mathematical exercise to rate both the percentile factor and probability of distortion! An example of the different interpretations of the same words is those of the Last Supper when Christ says "This is my blood, this is my body drink and eat of it as often as possible" that quote is of course a mixture of umpteen different Christian traditions Catholic doctrine interprets that as meaning Christ is manifest through the miracle of the Mass ie the rememberance of the last supper and the elements of bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Christ through transubstantiation. Some Anglicans refute this, some believe it and this is further complicated by the Cathoilc Church believing Anglican clergy are not real priests and can't therefore do the miracle because of a break in the apostolic sucession. Which for the uninitiated is like a sort of ecclesiastical tag game stretching back to the apostles who served Christ on earth and symbolised by the laying on of hands in blessing whilst invoking the power of the Holy Spirit. Ironically few protestants take this particular wording from the Bible literally and most go as far as denying it and using unfermented wine in their Communion Service because as they don't believe it's Christ blood they presumably think their congregation might get a taste for strong drink if they used normal communion wine which is of course alcoholic! This is slightly strange to me when one considers the incident when Jesus went to a wedding booze up and the host had run out of the amber nectar. Jesus being a regular bloke was heplful in doing a bit of instant winemaking well he wasn't an Aussie Jesus or he would made beer! So why the antipathy to wine in it's natural state as made by Jesus and it was also reported that was a pretty good drop of wine too something about saving the best till last! When what usually happened was the rubbish stuff got served up when the guests were three sheets to wind and knew no better! There are some cracking tales in the Bible and also a lot of doom gloom and endless lists and I have never really understood the tales of sacks full of enemy foreskins either they must have been no different to the atrocities committed nowadays only apparently on a vaster scale then! Of course sometimes the sayings get misused and I recall having a graffitti board in my office at a college I worked in which the staff and students were allowed to chalk amusing comments on. When one building society was having a savings campiagn which had some famous persons name like James Bond saves with the Woolwich etc. Some wit chalked on my board; Jesus Saves, with the Woolwich and another wrote Jesus saves and Keegan (a well known football player of the time!) scores on the rebound! Such is the power of Scripture, advertising, fame and common usage! I just can't invisage a giant billboard advertsising the New American Right Wing Bible with Jesus removed and perhaps replaced by an oil burning bush!

As far as everyone, including myself getting off the TOPIC of this News article, I had to say away to see if people would be getting back to the Article and not one side and the other side, frankly, in my opinion we live with entire WORLD with a TON of opinions, everyone has their own brain and we were made that way.

What I thought and read this article to STATE was cencensorsip of the Bible, the to me would be like rewriting HISTORY, once we start messing with history and all of our books that some from our History, frankly we have nothing left to referr to and that would be a sad World.

We need defination we needs History and yep we do need debates, but debates on the article not something totally off in left or right field.

They can change what they want but it doesn't change the fact of the truth. Anyone who is a Christian knows the Word of God and knows what will happen when the new changes occur if they do. Gods judgment will take care in time. It's Satans way of saying hey, I am still here and getting stronger with these idiots. We have to hold on to our beliefs, faith and our God (and He does have many names but one God). We will prevail!!!!!! Bless us all.

Thanks for all your comments. Everyone has the right to his or her own opinion, but I think we should respect each others' religious beliefs, especially since we really can't prove who's right or wrong. That's why religions are also called faiths. When I was 19 years old, I spent the summer working on a yoga ashram on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. One night my teacher, Swami Vishnu-devananda, gave me my personal mantra. I asked him, "How can I believe in something I can't understand?" He said, "You fly in an airplane without knowing how it stays up in the air, don't you? That's faith."

Of course, we can see an airplane fly before we have faith in it, but with religion, it seems to work the other way around. People claim to "see" God after having, as the dictionary defines faith, "firm belief in something for which there is no proof". Others become religious after some event occurs in their lives, such as a prayer being answered to save a loved one's life.

I think religion is a personal matter, and the proof of one's faith is in one's actions, not words. There's an old saying about how some people pray on their knees on sunday and prey on everyone else the rest of the week. Haven't the same American politicians who say we are a Christian nation been violating the sixth commandment, "Thou Shall Not Kill, for the past 8 years in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you're going to talk the talk, then walk the walk.

Personally, I don't know who or what created the universe. I don't think it would matter to such a creator what name we use, whether it's God (Christian), Yehweh (Judaism), Allah (Islam), Jehova (Hebrew), Zhu (Chinese), Tengri (Turkic), Waheguru (Sikhism) or Bhagwan (Hinduism), to name a few. If God is infinite, and our minds are finite, to define God is to deny God.

I believe that all religions worship the same God, or creative force, behind all that exists. I also think that all religions hold part of the truth, even though the so-called religious leaders often seem to be at odds with each other. I think the best illustration of my view of all the different religions is the story of the blind men and the elephant:

Six blind men were asked to determine what an elephant looked like by feeling different parts of the elephant's body.

The blind man who feels a leg says the elephant is like a pillar; the one who feels the tail says the elephant is like a rope; the one who feels the trunk says the elephant is like a tree branch; the one who feels the ear says the elephant is like a hand fan; the one who feels the belly says the elephant is like a wall; and the one who feels the tusk says the elephant is like a solid pipe.

A wise man explains to them:

"All of you are right. The reason every one of you is telling it differently is because each one of you touched a different part of the elephant. So, actually the elephant has all the features you mentioned."

This resolves the conflict, and is used to illustrate the principle of living in harmony with people who have different belief systems, and that truth can be stated in different ways.

Finally, I refer you to someone who was a lot smarter than I am, Albert Einstein, who said in 1954:

A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. The true value of a human being is determined by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive.

Peace.

To the person who wondered, yes I do know that the special effects of the nazis having their nasty surprise after opening the ark was pure fiction. I was just using it as a metaphor for the nasty surprise I would live to see the conservatives get faced with when they try to change the Bible to their liking and as a tool to brainwash. Nothing I love more than seeing the jerk types so many conservatives I've observed than when they get their nasty karma.

I suppose the proverb "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" would have to follow that but I'm not sure if it will translate into American English but I'm sure my Aussie friends will understand the linkage!

Deborah W you must not take anything I say too seriuosly and your'e very wicked for wishing such nasties on those poor conservatives that are trying to reeducate us with their "truths" but I really have had conversations with those who believe implicitly in the voracity of Hollywood for their education! Father Christmas, the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy et al. Ying and Yang are a different culture and religion also lol Anything political is to me lies and spin anyway so if they choose to hijack a religious book for the same treatment they can hardly expect to be taken all that seriuosly! I wonder what they will do with the ten commandment. Though shalt love thy neighbours wife provided your's and her husband don't find out about it! Though shalt not steal land from indigenous people. Though shalt not get caught in the act, Tough shalt not bow down and worship the almighty dollar/Hummer/stretch limo etc. Though shalt not commit murder by bombing innocent civilians or friendly troops. Though shalt honour thy father and mother if you know who they are. Thou shalt not kill trolls Though shalt have no other party but mine. Though shalt not vote Democrat. One thing that many religionists never give Jesus credit for is his incredible sense of humour usually forgotten in his abiding forgiveness. Even as he ws dying for our sins on the cross and in agony he prayed for his tormenters with probably his last breath " Father forgive them for the know not what they do" This prayer should have been said in every American Church for the last 8 years so it will be interesting to see how or if they attempt to twist Our Lords words! Of course the overiding priority for this project would appear to be the elimination of Christ's concern for the underdog his compassion for sparrows etc and his attitude to big business so I can fully understand how his message is not welcomed by Republicans and their fellow travelers. it is far too liberal and caring besides all those illegal immigrants will want some of the action if we keep the Good Samariton in!

It figures that the conservatives would try to rewrite the bible. How long before they try to rewrite history? Conservatives hide behind their so-called "Christian" values, in order to convince liberals and others that they're justified in doing what they do. It's self-righteousness--a "cafeteria style" religion that they profess, which apparently gives them the right to behave like jerks and get away with it. Forget compassion, forget kindness. All they care about is the almighty "ME". They're all about power and money. If they take control of the country, the middle class will dwindle, and our society will wind up like that of many 3rd world countries, with a massive lower class, and a small, elite upper class.

I have a 1898 Bible written in gothic style German (my mother-tongue) as well as a 1901 King James. When I compare these two with these new fandangled modern language versions, I see very little similarity to my older ones. I was 61 when I finally picked up and read them. Until then they just decorated my book-shelves. I'd hate to see anyone messing around with the Scriptures anymore then they allready have in those NIV's etc. As Revelations #22:18&19 states, they will get their JUST REWARDS (paraphrased)

Isn't this typical of the thumpers. It's not bad enough the bible babble has been deleted and edited to death, whole books thrown out by rulers throughout history altered by someones whim, now these morons want to change it again because it's "Liberal"? No wonder less people buy into this crap any more. Their God must be shaking her head in shame by the thinking of these maniacs and their behavior, not just regarding the bible but in their cruel behavior towards mankind, ( women mostly). If they had their way women would still be barefoot and pregnant and men could still beat them. I think erasing the christian religion from the face ofthe earth, would be best for all mankind, less wars, less corp. greed and less human tragedy.

"cruel behavior towards mankind, ( women mostly)"

And that is why I use the word humankind because it does not imply male dominance but gives equal consideration to everyone. Now if they really wanted to improve the messages the bible is suppose to be giving then that is one change they could make that I would totally agree with. They could remove all references to male dominance over women.

Lynda, I disagree with you in referring to god as her. George Carlin's quote says it best. "I say god has to be a man because no woman could or would screw things up like this."

The Bible is a most contradictory book ie: An Eye for an Eye - Vengence is mine sayeth the Lord????. TRUTH - there are many truths each person's truth is different as is their REALITY- we all look in different directions as it is out right and choice to do so - and religious people will ALWAYS put their "TRUTH"out as the ÷NE AND ONLY"!!!

Wow what alot of info here and I want to say that these same people that are changing are King James only people and wants to control you and say if your using a modern perversion your not actually A Christian. Well, I am among those people but not of them. I attend a King James only Baptist Church but, I believe I can understand a few modern translations. I think if you do the teachings of Jesus and accept him and live for him it don't make you a so called Christian but a child of God and I am amazed on how people are abusing this Bible and Word of God and thinking its religion which Religion was made by Man not God. God created the Bible not a religion. Man is wanting to distort his word by the way they want to live.
