Adding momentum to the revolt against the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Apple on Monday resigned from the business group because of its opposition to federal efforts to limit greenhouse gases. The move comes amid efforts by Apple to burnish its green image.

Apple is the latest company to do so. in the last two weeks, three other companies, amazingly, gas and electric energy companies also pulled out.

Pacific Gas and Electric recently pulled out of the Chamber of Commerce. "“We find it dismaying that the chamber neglects the indisputable fact that a decisive majority of experts have said the data on global warming are compelling and point to a threat that cannot be ignored,” Peter A. Darbee, the chairman of PG&E, wrote in a letter to the chamber."

Another energy company, Exelon, also recently left the Chamber of Commerce in the last few weeks. "Exelon is so committed to climate legislation that Rowe (Chairman and chief executive of Exelon) announced during today’s speech that Exelon will not be renewing its membership in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce due to the organization’s opposition to climate legislation.". He went on to say " “The carbon-based free lunch is over. But while we can’t fix our climate problems for free, the price signal sent through a cap-and-trade system will drive low-carbon investments in the most inexpensive and efficient way possible,” said Rowe. “Putting a price on carbon is essential, because it will force us to do the cheapest things, like energy efficiency, first.”

PNM Resources, another energy company, pulled out, stating " "At PNM Resources, we see climate change as the most pressing environmental and economic issue of our time. Given that view, and a natural limit on both company time and resources, we have decided that we can be most productive by working with organizations that share our view on the need for thoughtful, reasonable climate change legislation and want to push that agenda forward in Congress. As a result, we have decided to let our membership in the U.S. Chamber lapse when it expires at the end of this year."

Seems the list of conservative republican allies who still want to claim global warming is a myth and/or is not caused by human produced greenhouse gasses is growing rather thin. Even the electric and gas utility companies are admitting it is a big problem, taking steps to address it, and getting fed up with a Chamber of Commerce that doesn't want to address it.

Kudos to Apple and those other companies who have the ethical integrity to do the right thing. Thanks Tom!

I love seeing the Green Apple. They should take a position of leadership. Apple has always led in innovations. Thanks, Tom for the article.

a CRISIS IS UPON EARTH--->HOW MUCH OF THAT IS CAUSED BY 'NUCLEAR' ABUSE?
The USA set off HOW MANY NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS prior to the Iraq WAR ALONE?
NO ONE, absolutely NONE knows with CERTAINTY the ENTIRITY the DAMAGES that "NUCLEAR" WHATEVER OUT HERE (Explosions, Leaks at "plants"... etc) have CAUSED OUR BIOSPHERE! HAVE CAUSED OUR ENVIRONMENT... and ATMOSPHERE!
NOR how has this ABUSE VIOLATED the GALACTIC STRUCTURES???

HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED OVER HIROSHIMA FOOTAGE OR PHOTOS?
I AM ASHAMED WHAT WAS DONE TO JAPAN!!!
HOW THOSE PEOPLE ANGUISHED AND WRITHED IN AGONY!
GUILTLESS OF ATTACKING THE USA AS ASSUREDLY AS MANY HERE IN THE USA ARE GUILTLESS OF ATTACKING IRAQ!!! I HAVE SEEN OUR OWN USA VETERANS MARCHING "NO WAR IN IRAQ" LONG BEFORE BUSH ORDERED THE INVASION OF IRAQ!!!
and OTHER CITIZENS TOO OPPOSED THE WAR!

BEST FIND THE "TRUE CAUSATION" of the "GREENHOUSE GASES" in their ENTIRITY!

AND
STOP TOYING WITH "NUCLEAR" ANYTHINGS...THERE IS NO RIGHT IN IT BY ANY NATION

I am glad that at the very least
from what I read in this post Tom...
that some corporate activity is at the minimum saying "STOP THESE GAMES!"
which HOW MANY OF us CITIZENS OF NATIONS have been saying ALL ALONG!!!

however
WHAT NUCLEAR "EXPERIMENTATIONS" (bombs invented, bombs going off, facility claims of housing "energy" by nuclear WHATEVER... etc) have DONE I AM CONVINCED IS FAR MORE DESTRUCTIVE!

Ditto for Marion's comment.

Great story, Tom - some good news for a change! Some companies DO have integrity and vision, and are standing up for the right thing -- also reveals the backwardness of the Chamber of Commerce. With this bad publicity, they may change their policy and/or their leadership.

Thanks for the article Tom!

Think it is SOOOOOO needed that big corporations in their political lobbying and runners at all of the sessions they have in Washington come out to protect the environment. This is WAY overdue and so needed.

So what? The others that left were all companies in the nuclear industry...which should tell you something!

ALL of the evidence that humans are changing climate was FAKED.Cap-N-Tax is Like Taxing Ambulances to Reduce Traffic Accidents

Taxing carbon dioxide under the misguided perception that it causes temperature change is like placing a tax on ambulances because they cause vehicle accidents. Like CO2, ambulances arrive after the event.

Vehicle accidents occur and some time later ambulances arrive.

Temperature goes up and some time later CO2 goes up.

Clearly there is a parallel… Using the logic of many misguided politicians and their advisers, it would seem feasible through careful assumption-based computer modelling to show this… and build a scenario for taxing ambulances and thereby reducing vehicle accidents.

I am a concerned professional research scientist with over 30 years experience, latter part with CSIRO as a Principal Research Scientist. As my funding no longer depends on politicians, I am free to make my information and conclusions public.

We are now in the closing stages of the Cap-n-Tax debate. We need to rely on evidence and facts, not propaganda, before such crucial decisions are taken.

The real world evidence such as revealed in the ice cores suggests that the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is built on fraud. See this graph; click on it for a larger image:

It's a scam folks.

Make up your mind, Judy! You have also said that we are now cooling, even while CO2 levels continue to rise! If temperatures rise first and then CO2 levels, why were we not much warmer several decades ago?

Because our civilization didn't exist thousands of years ago, any comparison between what's happening now and what happened then is like comparing apples and oranges.

You are a liar, Judy. And so is the front group calling itself The Carbon Sense Coalition.
