As a wolf lover and active protector, I just don't understand this process. They worry when the wolf is near extinction; they reintroduce wolves into a specific population; then when recovery of the species is successful, they eliminate a large number until the wolf is near extinction again. It seems like man "playing" with the animals. Why don't they put some of that money into a program that provides compensation to farmers and ranchers that lose livestock? I recently had an invite from Defenders of Wildlife to attend a meeting as an activist with my state's Representative. The goal of the meeting was to get him co-sponsor the PAWS act that would ban aerial hunting of wolves in Alaska, closing the loophole in the federal legislation that now allows that type of hunting. I personally do alot of work with them on this issue. I'm sure alot of you folks do as well. There were some awesome, but frightening, ads that we got placed in a prime spot in D.C. where all politicians could view the ad. If you HATE wolf killing, please check out Defenders of Wildlife for the opportunity to participate in fighting for our wolves.
