The current veterinarian that is in charge of the Athens, AL Dog Pound does not have the animals best interest in mind. We believe a vet that works for a Pound should be more concerned with helping the animals then making money.

Am I missing something? I can't find any explanation of what this vet has actually done. I'm a bit reluctant to sign a petition that just says he is more interested in money than animals without some evidence of his misdeeds. I was recently in Greece and was most concerned about all the stray dogs in Athens until I went to the small towns and rural areas and discovered that most people keep their dogs chained up on short chains all day every day in some cases in the most appalling conditions. I then realised that the Athens strays were the lucky ones. They were free to roam and people feed them. Firstly, does anyone know of a programme operating to spay the Athens strays? Secondly, I would like to do something about the way dogs are treated by their owners. Regulations are needed and fines imposed. Is there any organisation that is lobbying for this? I'm in Australia now and certainly not on the ground in Greece but do want to help in some way. The Greeks are such wonderful people and I find it hard to understand how they can treat their animals in this way.
