Dear Mr Huffman:

I am writing to you in indignation and I speak for many.

Mr. Dan Richards is in a position we do not believe he deserves, nor should any avid hunter such as he. The mission of conservation of our animals should not be biased. He is an avid hunter and an animal killer....hardly a steward of animal conservation and welfare, which should be defined in and by his post as Fish & Wildlife Commissioner of California.

At this time there is outrage regarding a photo of him which is provided for you holding a dead mountain lion, which in his own state, is protected. He went all the way to Idaho just to kill this majestic animal. He was not even able to take it back home. He gave it away to Mr. Joseph Peterson at the Flying B Ranch, the owner organized "the hunt."

We have created two petitions that are viral. One petition is asking him to resign, the other asking the commission to fire him:

We are disgusted at this man having such a position, being so partisan. Our animals depend on us. We wish to see his immediate removal and replacement by an individual who has the protection, conservation and welfare of our wildlife
as his primary goal.

Fact of, the matter, those of us that hunt ARE the ones that try and protect our wildlife. I guess a lot of people are ignorant to the damage that lions do to our PETS , wildlife, and livestock. Not to mention attacks on humans. The one comment for the human attacks is" we are crowding their habitat" ok, cool, then maybe we as humans should quit having kids, otherwise where will our kids , grandkids, great grandkids live? What about worrying about abused kids, women, and homeless people, first? We don't live in a fairy tale.

Sim R., I think you are confused. This is the animal welfare community, not the disgruntled hunter community.

By the way, I'm not buying any of your rhetoric. I doubt if anyone else here is either.

IGNORANT!? Cougar attacks are rare and extremely circumstantial. Don't spread lies. We here in the animal welfare community are way too smart for that BS.

The most dangerous predators on earth are on two legs. And if you're afraid to live where there are cougars,
then get the hell out of their territory. Period.

I believe that the statement made was far from rhetoric. Dan Richards took office to protect these animals, yes, and that means culling to prevent over population and disease. Far be it from your small minds to comprehend this fact. Mr. Richards legally took an animal, which if any of you would care to read a manual on the conservation of animals would see this is necessary. THE PURPOSE OF FISH AND GAME IS IN PART TO HELP MANAGE Animal and fish populations.
