Ensure the life of this magnificent creature is spared! Grant her the dignity & sanctuary that is befitting of a wild animal who has spent her life behind bars for human entertainment! She is in danger of being euthanized for human error ending in death.

From SABC News:

"The future of a white lioness, Nyanga, who attacked and killed a Johannesburg Zoo keeper, Joe Ramonetha hangs in the balance. Zoo officials are considering putting the predator down, however, animal rights groups have kicked up an uproar. The matter is before the City of Johannesburg.

Kevin Richardson an animal behaviourist affectionately dubbed the lion whisperer, lives dangerously. He frequently frolics with some of the most dangerous animals known to man. He is one of the activists trying to keep Nyanga alive.

In some past incidents where lions mauled human beings, they were put down without hesitation. But the counter-argument is that they are simply natural predators.

"For anyone to say the recommendation is that we should put a lion down because it did something that comes naturally to it, means in my opinion that they should put down all the lions in Zoo's in captive scenarios," Richardson added.

Ramonetha has worked with these animals for most of his life. His daughter Susan Ramonetha says: "He liked working with lions and they loved him. He worked with them for a long time."

Tragically Ramonetha's passion came at a heavy price for both man and possibly beast."

At the link, go to "home" then "campaign to save a white lioness life." Here are the emails. Please take action now to spare this lioness her life! So many have died due to human ignorance and stupidity! Let the City of Johannesburg know we will not tolerate this madness! SAVE NYANGA!

Please share this message and email:

Counsellor C. Vondo at the Johannesburg City Council:

emmahma@joburg.org.za

Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Parks Tau:

khumbum@joburg.org.za and sydneyn@joburg.org.za

DEMAND that the life of this magnificent creature is spared, and she is granted the dignity and sanctuary that is befitting of a wild animal who has spent her life in confines for human benefit. I understand human error triggered this incident. However, once a big cat kills, it never forgets doing it.

A long time ago, in Las Vegas, a three-person team—a husband, wife, and a young man—worked with big cats. They had their own show for several years here in this city. At the ranch, their training ground for the tigers and panthers, the young man’s white tiger got out of its pen, and he tried to get it back into his pen, but he tripped over something on the ground—the house was being remodeled, and the construction crew left something on the ground—and the tiger attacked him and killed him. Six weeks later, the wife went into the tiger’s pen—and nobody knows how it happened—and was found dead several hours later.

Another big cat team, a more recent two-man team, lost a member to one of their fully trained big cats.

I am sorry! I cannot sign this petition. Once big cats kill a human, they fear us less, and they DO end up killing again!!!

EVERY TIME you see one of those "lions welcome zookeeper" videos which flood the internet....I want you to remember this.

The lion needs to be in a confined facility...NOT roaming in the wild. She must be spayed and she deserves to live. This petition is very unclear about who's behind it and what their plan might be.

I disagree with the "once a killer...always a killer" theory! Cats kill for a variety of reasons but hunger is the primary motive...that, and territorial defense.

I thought white animals are at a disadvantage in the wild...easy for predators to see. A white predator would stand out like a beacon in a coal mine, (unless it is a polar bear in snow.) and it's food supply would be well alerted before it could pounce.

The lion did not ask to be stuck in a zoo. When people interact with wild animals in unnatural conditions, those people should realize accidents can happen and not take revenge on the animals.

Hi there. I just sent this letter to authorities of the Johannesburg City Council
regarding the release of white lioness Nyanga. Please feel free to modify and
personalize before sending. If you have already taken action, THANK YOU!

TY! Michelle >^..^<

To: emmahma@joburg.org.za
Cc: khumbum@joburg.org.za, sydneyn@joburg.org.za

Dear Sirs:

It has come to the attention of the global animal welfare community that the life of 11-year old white lioness Nyanga currently hangs in the balance and that you have given serious consideration to euthanizing her.

We vehemently oppose any and all plans to kill Nyanga and demand that she be placed in a sanctuary where she can live in dignity and safety for the duration of her life.

According to reports, a cage door was left unhinged in Nyanga's enclosure and upon being startled, she lunged at her zookeeper. While unfortunate that her custodian lost his life, Nyanga acted as all predators do when they are taken unawares and feel threatened.

Keeping a natural predator that belongs in the wilderness in a cage is unnatural and extremely dangerous for persons involved in its care. Unlike human predators, however, animals do not kill for sport and do not react with malice in any situation. To punish Nyanga for doing what comes naturally to all animals when they feel threatened is unconscionable. Taking her life won't solve anything.

In sum, Nyanga should not pay for a human error. She has already suffered enough being caged her enter life for the sake of human exploitation.

Immediately release white lioness Nyanga from a lifetime of captivity into the custodianship of the Global White Lion Protection Trust where she will be given sanctuary in her ancestral homeland of the greater Timbavati region. Provide both the Global White Lion Protection Trust and the global animal welfare community with transparency and honesty regarding her current status and release.

Demonstrate to the world that Johannesburg respects the wildlife indigenous to South Africa and is genuinely invested in it's preservation and welfare.

PLEASE RELEASE NYANGA FROM HER PRISON TO A SANCTUARY WHERE SHE CAN THRIVE!

Sincerely, Name/Location
