AJ had a "family" which included 2 other cats who died. They claim AJ began acting out after the death of his kitty friends so they dumped him at the shelter with his favorite teddy bear. AJ is a beautiful cat of unknown age whose days are limited. HELP!

PLEASE SHARE WIDELY AND ESPECIALLY THOSE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GET THE WORD OUT AND FIND THIS POOR, INNOCENT DARLING A HOME!

IMAGINE DUMPING THIS BELOVED COMPANION AT A KILL SHELTER AFTER HIS TWO FRIENDS DIE RATHER THAN CONSOLE HIM AND PROVIDE HIM WITH THE CARE AND SYMPATHY HE SO DESPERATELY NEEDED!!!! SO INCENSED I CAN HARDLY TYPE!

September 9, 2013

AJ was surrendered yesterday to the Castaic Shelter, Facebook reported on September 9.

AJ had a family, which included two other cats who had died. The family said AJ had began acting out since the death of his kitty friends. So his family decided to dump this beautiful kitty the shelter.

Rather than give AJ the comfort he desperately needed as he adjusted to life without his cat friends, AJ was given his stuffed teddy bear. His favorite toy is all AJ has for companionship as he waits for either a home or euthanasia.

Since he was an owner turn in, the shelter isn't obligated to hold him for several days. His family won't be coming to the shelter to search for him, because they've already thrown him away.

AJ appears very scared in this photo. The photographer who took it didn't want to upset the cat by flashing a camera at him. She did say he's really handsome and has beautiful eyes. AJ appears to be a Siamese/Siamese mix.

There's no information on how old he is, but older cats don't do well in a shelter environment.

If you want to give AJ and his teddy bear a loving home, please contact the Castaic Shelter. You must visit the shelter in order to adopt.

How DARE THEY HOLD HIM TIL FRIDAY AFTER BEING DUMPED!?!? They don't want him back! They did not care enough about his grief to begin with!!!!

Please keep us updated!!!! TY!!!!

My heart breaks seeing this but I am so happy to know that now AJ and his teddy bear are now having a good home. Michelle, you are so right! Why they have to hold him until certain date when his hearless family is the one who dumped him there. They should not be given any chance to have him or any animal again, ever! I just can not imagine how much confusion and fear he had to go through being at the shelter. I do not and will not understand how someone can abandon their pets like this.

How happy I am to hear that AJ has been rescued! God bless Bridget for her kind and loving heart so different from AJ's previous owners! They were irresponsible pet owners who weren't willing to make a lifetime commitment to their pet and AJ now has an owner who is really capable of love and one who will never abandon him! Thanks Michelle for this wonderful news and thank you also for caring so much about animals abandoned at shelters.

Shedding tears of happiness for AJ, I am so glad he and is pal the teddy bear have a new home...He's probably much better off in his new home anyway...How could those people who had him turn him in because he was grieving the loss of the other two Cats who lived with him in their family home...How could those people be so cold, and heartless and not have any compassion for their Cat who was grieving the loss of his two friends...Of course he was going to act differently for a little while...So AJ, enjoy your new loving home, and I'm sure your new family will love you and appreciate you much more than the losers you used to live with...God Bless you AJ, and I hope you have an awesome and happy life in your new home.. :)

It amazes me how some can take the position of judge, jury, and lord over others when they have no idea what the complete story is whatsoever. If the previous owner had no feelings for AJ they would not have brought his teddy bear with. The important thing is he has been adopted and is loved.

Barbara D. (107)
Saturday September 14, 2013, 5:05 am
I agree with Gloria! It's sad, but you don't know anything about why they surrendered AJ. They may have had no choice. What we DO know is that they did the responsible thing and cared enough to bring his teddy.
Remember that there are a lot of people who wouldn't have hesitated to kick him to the streets!!

Noted! OK folk's this is the time that all animal avengers come together and pray that one of us, who lives in that area, scrambles like a madman and races over to grab this last minute reprieve, for an innocent animal that "PROVES" that they feel loss over the death of their loved ones... just as we do! So lets jump on this on and quickly!!!

I'm not "judge and jury" ladies & gentlemen--just passionate about animals & their welfare.

When I post I deliver the message the authors relay--I'm just the messenger. The news writers
at Examiner are very passionate and a reliable source in my opinion. Bridgette who photographs
animals at shelters gets the first hand story on them from shelter staff. She takes photos of
these animals because she cares and wants them to get good homes....why would she alter the
truth of what they tell her?

The agonizing truth of the matter is there are tens of thousands of animals languishing in shelters, receiving the needle of death, breathing their last breath in a gas chamber because a "family" like this one didn't want them anymore. He peed on the carpet. She woke me up at night. He sat on my coffee table.
She was boring. He was too big. She was too small. We are moving......doesn't match the furniture....

WHO THE HELL CARES!? AN ANIMAL IS FAMILY....A LIFETIME COMITTMENT!

If this family didn't care they wouldn't have left a teddy bear with it!? Are you kidding me!?

Animals are not props--they are not temporary fixtures--they are a lifetime responsibility! This "family"
had other options than dumping a family member at a kill facility. Whyd they do it? THEY DIDNT WANT IT ANYMORE!

Done. The absurdity of even dignifying someone questioning the intentions of this family when they are so blatently obvious is beyond me. AJ is safe and happy and hopefully in a fur-ever home. One down--20 bizillion to go.

read and noted on 9-14-13 the things that stupid people do to there beloved pets is beyond words now AJ fate hangs in the balance, because these idiot's no longer wanted there beloved cat simply cause he acted out after losing his 2 friends these asses need to be dumped at a shelter so that they can see how hard times are going to be will keep my fingers crossed for AJ that he finds another loving person to adopt him and show him the love he deserves and for those asses karma will come around.

to own and love a pet is to understand or at least try this is so selfish of the owners to have it so easy to just get rid of this kitty how would us humans react? same way in some of us so why do the animals get labeled gotten rid of simply because they act pretty much in same manner as we do so bottom line animals are people too and this needs to be addressed let's start with not just anybody can have a pet without a microscope screening and if for some reason the animal and human don't mix or circumstances such as this then a program should be in place to help home this kitty give it the attention understanding it needs to feel right on what's happening in his world as a human race we allow the wrong people to have animals make it too easy for them to be around animals after wrong doing and in most cases do not think the animals have rights, feelings, intelligence nor a voice WRONG they deserve more than the harden criminals we pay taxes to house and keep alive!!! think people think on what we are doing wrong and get rid of the evil ones and bad people in positions that do wrong of the welfare and fate of the innocent

Noted Tks. Michelle.. Also to Bridget you all rock.. I agree with you on everythng that you wrote on your 1250pm post..I've 10 cats and they have a home forever that's my committment to them..Regardless if they poop or pee on the floor.. I take them to the vet to see if there is an under lying problem then treat..I would never surrender them to a high kill shelter..only to a rescue. Anyway's Kudos again to all involved in helping and giving A.J. and Teddy a new home a better home.

Oh my gosh - I am so happy AJ & Teddy have a new home where he will be loved this time!
I'll probably get static on this comment but, maybe it was a good idea to take AJ to the shelter. If 2 cats have already died in that house; what happened to them? Old age, accident, disease, abuse, something the cats got into that was poisonous?? I worry for any other animals that are there!!

Anyway, I am so glad that AJ will be loved and happy from now on!!

Totally agree with you Michelle, I feel two contrasting sentiments the first of happiness because fortunately AJ has found a new family.
Instead, the second of my feelings is of deep sadness because for all those poor animals that do not get the lucky of AJ due to people idiotic and irresponsible

In an ideal world, there would be a test that would reveal a person's inner moral fiber before being allowed to adopt a helpless, voiceless animal. There is simply no excuse for the actions of this family. To dump a kitty at a kill shelter because he is "acting out" after the death of his housemates is beyond cruel. He already lost so much but that obviously was not enough for these people, he had to lose all that he had left that was familiar to him. I don't care what their "circumstances" were, if they couldn't handle an anxiety-ridden kitty during his most stressful time, they didn't have much of a commitment to him in the first place so he was disposable.

To those who would attempt to defend the indefensible, the people involved will be fine, they will survive and will quickly move on. He suffered a trauma that will take a long time to heal. The priorities here are clear, the kitty's welfare comes first. One day, the people will come face to face with karma and retribution will be served.

Hope his new forever home is a small slice of heaven for him.
