This may not be the case in other countries where farmers are not so heavily subsidised eg Brazil, Australia.

It depends to on what plants and land and waste you use for bio-fuels. It can be complex.

The former grasslands of the US and Canada are already overused for gm corn and soy production, without biofuel pressure. Indigenous plants are not "waste" but vital for indigenous pollinators' survival, which is vital to bird survival, and other wild animal survival. Co-opting the space of the earth and extinguishing wild plants and animals, destroying rainforest habitat or wild grasslands, is the problem - not fueling your suv cheaply.
