The animals have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no escape. Soon they are cornered and torn apart by the dogs. Wildlife penning is a combination of canned hunting and staged animal fighting -- two unequivocably inhumane and unsporting practices.

Here's a chance to help save North Carolina's wildlife from a cruel, underground blood sport. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission may restrict foxes and coyotes from being sold for use in "penning" events -- timed competitions in which dogs in packs tear trapped and terrified foxes and coyotes to shreds. Please voice your support of the proposed restrictions.

In North Carolina, live coyotes and foxes are released inside fenced enclosures where dogs are judged on how they chase down the penned animals. The animals have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no escape. Soon they are cornered and torn apart by the dogs. Wildlife penning is a combination of canned hunting and staged animal fighting -- two unequivocably inhumane and unsporting practices.

North Carolina trappers sell live foxes and coyotes to pen operators who engage in this cruelty, and the Natural Resources Commission is considering a humane reform to stop the live sale of foxes and coyotes under one type of permit. Please send the WRC a quick email in support of the proposed regulation. The deadline is Feb. 1, 2009.

And don't forget to tell your friends and family in North Carolina how they can help, too.

Finally, to show your support for ending this cruel practice, please also attend the WRC public comment meeting:

Brenda read and noted (63). This inhumane practice needs more people like you to make it public knowledge and then once you have the numbers aim to have it outlawed.
