Wow, now this is a comprehensive list. All the Care2 members who are in the states without felony provisions - how about starting a letter & petition action to motivate for change? I'm not a USA citizen, but will gladly sign - so please make your petitions and letters 'international' format, else it rejects 'foreigners'. Thanks.

FINALLY........ARKANSAS HAS A FELONY CRUELTY LAW BEFORE OUR LEGISLATURE RIGHT NOW. OUR ATTORNEY GENERAL TOOK UP THE CAUSE AND IS WORKING WITH STATE REPS THAT HAD PUT IT BEFORE OUR LEGISLATURE BEFORE. WITH HIM BEHIND IT THE GOOD OLE FARM BUREAU SAYS THEY WILL SUPPORT IT THIS TIME......I WON'T HOLD MY BREATH AS THEY LIED EACH TIME IN THE 19 TIMES IT HAS BEEN PUT UP BEFORE OUR LEGISLATURE SAYING THEY WOULD SUPPORT IT AND THEN AT THE LAST MINUTE OPPOSED IT AND OUR COWARDLY LEGISLATORS BACKED DOWN AND LET EVERY BILL DIE. THE HSUS IS ALSO BEHIND THE CURRENT BILL SB77 SO KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT ARKANSAS, ALSO KNOWN AS THE REDNECK STATE.......AND I AM A RESIDENT BUT ASHAMED OF MY STATE TOTALLY........WILL PROTECT THEIR ANIMALS. IT APPEARED WE MIGHT BE THE LAST STATE AND THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HUMILIATING TO SAY THE LEAST.
WISH THAT LIST GAVE THE DEFINITIONS OR THE REFERENCE NUMBERS FOR EACH STATE SO WE COULD QUOTE THOSE WHEN WE WRITE TO PROSECUTORS, JUDGES, ETC. I HAVE USED THIS INFORMATION SHOWN HERE BEFORE.

Makes it easier to see and know. Those who abuse animals as kids, abuse people as adults. Needs to be stopped.

Colorado doesn't mess around. Wow....6 years and a $500,000 max fine....Impressive.There should be a set nationwide animal cruelty fine and sentence. Some seem to be decidedly more lax than others.

hmmmm.....Texas needs more stringent laws re: Animal Abuse. We do not have 'ban' and 'PPO' orders in effect, and I think 2 years isn't long enough. Texas needs to follow NY, CO, ME, and VT., for leadership (skills) in this very important issue. Thanks, Brenda, Noted.

Brenda our state has had felony for years IT HAS DONE NOTHING.THE ABUSER STILL GET NOTHING BUT SLAP ON THE WRIST.ASI SAID BEFORE AN ANIMAL ABUSER WHO HAS LOST RIGHT TO HAVE ANY ANIMALS CAN STILL CARE FOR CHILDREN.THE CHILDREN LEARN NOT TO FEEL.
ANIMAL CONCERNS NO LONGER JUST ONE COUNTY IT IS GLOBAL ASING CONGRESS FOR NEW LAWS
1. THE CONVICTED ABUSER WILL LOSE RIGHT TO CARE FOR CHILDREN TILL DEEM CAPABLE BY A JUDGE.
2. ABUSER WILL PAY FOR MENTAL EVALUATION.
3. ABUSER WILL PAY $ 3,000 FOR EACH ANIMAL PUT DOWN DUE TO CRUELTY AND NEGLECT.
THERE IS A PROVEN LINK BETWEEN ANIMAL ABUSE TO-DOMESTIC ABUSE-TO COMMUNITY ABUSE.THANKS TO THE AMERICAN HUMAN SOCIETY THE 110TH CONGRESS 2ND SESSION H, 1046. EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR DESIGNATION OF SEPTEMBER 2008, AS "NATIONAL LINK AWARENESS MONTH AND RECOGNIZING THE LINK BETWEEN ANIMAL CRUELTY AND OTHER FORMS OF SOCIETAL” VIOLENCE. 2ND SESSION THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE MARCH 13 2008. CONGRESS ADJOURNED BEFORE ENACTING. CONGRESS BEING WELL AWARE OF THE LINK.WE ASK CONGRESS TO ENACT THE NEW LAWS TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITIES.

O'bama made promises to the AR community when Dennis was pushed out.
It's getting time for AR to start showing up in Washington DC with lists of ideas and solutions. Thanks Brenda

Certainly all will prevail for every precious animal on this planet, ones that attempt to Hurt any animal should be put in chains for a duration of 2 years, this system has to start working for all these angels if it weren't
for people as on Care 2 and other organization I'd hate to see the affects, this is why I know for a fact that all will prevail.

I believe that abusers need counseling,(something's broke)a year volunteering at a rescue, (someone needs to teach them compassion, love, and respect)They can go to jail, with a fine, too.

Felony laws are only good for forcing people to plead guilty to misdemeanours that they are also not guilty of, and for forcing people to buy off local humane societies by giving them puppies.

Virginia says it's a felony with 5 yr conviction. Alot of good that did when Michael Vick, plea bargained his a-- into an 18 month sentence. These sentences need to be mandatory.
