"Lobbyists won't find a job in my White House." President Obama assured us with this claim upon inauguration. And yet he just nominated to two key posts "Big Ag" industry power brokers, who come straight from the chemical pesticide and biotechnology

What - you expected honesty out of someone who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep from revealing his original birth certificate, hid his kindergarten records, his Punahou school records, his Occidental College records, his Columbia University records, his Columbia thesis, his Harvard Law School records, his Harvard Law Review articles, his scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, his passport, his medical records, his files from his years as an Illinois state senator . . .

Must be part of the "transparent" government he promised us. Transparent alright - a transparent fraud.

PLEASE don't make this about who's Republican and who's Democrat or which is right or which is wrong. THIS IS ABOUT OUR FOOD SUPPLY and who is controlling it. Please read the whole article by going to the site and take the action. We need to stop the squabbling and address the issues at hand, Big Agricultural and Chemical industry is taking over our food supply. They are controlling and manipulating it from within the government with these appointments, within the government Bills they are behind and the regulations they are blocking. It is time we made all the politicians we elected responsible for their words and their actions that are in direct opposition to those words, as is in this case. During the appointment of the first two from Big Ag (Monsanto) there were hundreds of thousands of letters,and emails from individuals and organizations expressing these same concerns and disapproval of those appointments and we were not listened to then. Now we need to say it louder and clearer, write, email, call, sign petitions and letters, take some actions other than just talking about it amongst ourselves on our computers.

If it makes u feel any better - they ALL lie - it seems to be an inherited trait of some politicians in the field today .... we have great food controls here in Canada and if not for the lobbyists that go after and pay your American politicians you would have better control in America - but u don't because of the corruption that exists on both sides of the aisle there ....

Wow. I thought that the concern here was Big Ag and the problems with pesticides and GMO with reference to a government appointment involved in said issues. I was unfortunately sidetracked by a 'boot scootin' type whose profile page I just read, and honestly, I can't figure out what the heck he is doing on this network! Thus, I will keep the rest of my thoughts aside for another day when I'm not so distracted by total ignorance.

Sad to say, big business rules for the most part when it comes to ruling the roost of this House.

"Now the United States will continue its efforts to export the worst aspects of U.S. agriculture to other countries, many of which are deeply wary of genetically modified seeds and the impacts of toxic pesticides on their communities."

No, no, no. A step in the wrong direction.

Sorry Gorilly girl, but I beg to differ - the post is about honesty as well as agriculture

Who cares about his birth certificate? Maybe those who still believe in following the constitution and havind a duly elected eligible president.

We are being victimized by a huge deception and agribusiness is merely one part of the deception and string of lies that has marked this man's candidacy and presidency..

If my dog were elected, would the response be to stop belllyaching and get over it?

He could have easily stopped all the birth certificate bellyaching by simply releasing a copy of his original vault certificate. Instead, he spent hundreds of thousands to prevent it's release and also moved to hide numerous other records. The question of why that happened goes to the heart of why he has lied about not hiring lobbyists and has appointed chemical, pharmaceutical and big agribusiness officials as well as Wall Street insiders to run his government.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, I would have been equally appalled if McInsane and Palin had been elected. The two party system is a cruel farce and those who make it to the top all answer to the same masters.

Tony no worries I just get tired of all the Obama bashing it would be the same if it were someone else elected too...Can we not just accept it and go on???? We have to work towards change and all the fighting about him or anyone else just doesnt do any good it just seems to spur hard feelings and I HATE that..I may not understand it all and never will for it isnt my fortee...lol He got elected and now we have to live with it wether we like it or not....

Gorilly Girl, you don't sound like an ass. I checked you out and you sound to me like someone who truly cares about people and causes that matter. I did get carried away a bit myself and I apologize for that - I am just so fed up with the way that we have strayed from the vision of our founders and sold out our government to special interests.

Hugs right back atcha.

Sadly Government of left right and centre functions ot the behest of interest groups. Exercising control over those interest groups is where democracy often falls down impaled on it's own vagaries and shortcomings! Much easier to govern in a total dictatorship in practise! However much people want this or than done Political Government is an amalgum of self interest. pet projects and the limited permission to govern of the establishment and the civil service infrastructure all of which have their strings jerked by a variety of other self interested lobbists, bean counters even without the charade of democratic process or debate in the various houses of government. Any new leader is going to be frustrated by the realities of the wonderfully flawed system and get tripped and controlled by it many before have been corrupted by it as well whatever their supposed political leanings and the only thing that is on offer is perpetual criticism for an individual who is trying to improve the lot of Americans and America as well as the rest of the world. I'm sure those that keep up the assorted, abuse, threats etc would find a warm welcome in the many other Democratic states of the world such as Iran etc but of course you would not have the luxury of expressing your opinion without sanction in those places. So please be thankfull that flawed though our UK and US sytems are the alternative is most unlikely to be welcomed by many if any of us!

". Why the president would nominate someone from the group that infamously chided the First Lady for refusing to use pesticides on the White House garden is a bit of a mystery, but perhaps it has something to do with all the money and work as a fundraiser that Siddiqui put into Obama’s campaign. This critical position is designed to use free trade agreements to open up foreign markets for U.S. agriculture goods—mostly to promote chemical-intensive, genetically modified products that undermine local food cultures in developing countries.

It’s crucial that the Senate Finance Committee hears from public witnesses while investigating his past roles. At CropLife International, Siddiqui led an initiative to weaken restrictions against fertilizers and pesticides, as part of the World Trade Organization’s Doha Round of negotiations. He also served as the senior agricultural trade advisor during the Clinton administration, and pressed for getting genetically modified crops and seeds approved for commercial use in the United States.

Now the United States will continue its efforts to export the worst aspects of U.S. agriculture to other countries, many of which are deeply wary of genetically modified seeds and the impacts of toxic pesticides on their communities. Mirroring those concerns, a landmark comprehensive United Nations and World Bank- sponsored International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science, and Technology for Development (IAASTD) has said that one of the best ways to feed the world is to increase investments in agro-ecological science and farming.

We don’t need more genetically modified seeds. What we need is enforcement of antitrust laws to break up monopoly control of the global food system, and fairer—not “freer”—trade arrangements to overcome poverty and hunger around the world.

The Obama administration has made tremendous strides towards encouraging the growth of the local food movement, and its connections to human health and ecological impacts. The White House organic garden and the farmers market spearheaded by Michelle Obama are important symbolic gestures, as is the USDA’s new “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food” initiative. However, these latest appointments of industry insiders to two of the most influential offices that will shape U.S. food and agricultural policy at home and abroad call into question just how committed the Obama administration is to promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing hunger in the developing world."

" What we need is enforcement of antitrust laws to break up monopoly control of the global food system......"

This article fairly states both Good Things and Bad Things done so far by the Obama administration. {The White House Garden, the USDA Initiative.} It is not as if we are helpless bystanders! We can by OUR actions NOW, make our weight felt on the Good Side and FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! against the Bad Side.....
{The previous mis-Administration didn't even have the ghost of a Good Side to recommend it!....}

We need the "enforcement of anti-trust laws", PLUS MORE ANTI-TRUST LAWS.....
This problem is actually BIGGER than the problem just of Big Agro. There is Big Pharma, Big Medicine {Insurance companies which are Trusts, also}, Big Chemo, the Energy Corporations raping the planet, the "no-bid" Military Contractors breaking US and International laws with impunity...... you get the picture. The so-called "Free Market" is a COMPLETE FARCE, ANYthing but "free" or beneficial, as long as Trusts, Monopolies, Combines, Mega-Corporations, whatever you call them, have control of the majority of the world's resources.......

Congratulations to Ireland for outlawing gm crops! As a "veteran" of the "Battle of Seattle" against the WTO and IMF, I can testify that when the People speak with a loud voice, Good Things can happen! We can begin by speaking out HERE, on THIS issue.....

The whole Corporate system is the REAL problem, it must come DOWN, this is bigger than Democrats or Republicans, we need an explicitly ANTI-CORPORATE Third Party! {One more gutsy and more aggressive than the Greens......!}

Thanks Tierney. Action taken. What bothers me about this whole mess is the brazen blatancy of the choices for these appointments. There is a host of information out there on how industry has corrupted the approvals process for animal feeds and for human food here in Canada. I can't believe Obama wants to walk that same path.

We actually have better control over our food sources here in Canada than America does Karen. I do not understand why America still allows lobbyists to seemingly set the rules over the controls ....

Yuk, the whole idea of lobbyists in charge of anything, even the local dump . . . .
Signed and added my two cents -
The Bush administration was pretty much all corruption all the time and we chose so many Dems on purpose to get that turned around. We're tired of being sold out by our own government and the lobbyists who slime their way into our federal agencies. It's time for all that to come to a screeching halt and we're watching very closely. One way or another we are going to get good, honest, competent people of integrity into our agencies to represent us well and do their work in our best interests.
