Remember, it takes about 7 years to get a field back in shape after chemical dependency. I'm not talking about small plots, because with raised beds, one can make up the soil from scratch. I've seen people grow stuff on bedrock using a mixture of soil and seaweed. The taste of the vegetables grown that way is incredible.

Thank you Tierney> It is they only way to keep the soil as a renewable resource. The farmer should be able to put back in what the plant takes out and using fertilizer from external sources is mining the soil from somewhere else.

Finally I find something I can agree with Judy. Raised beds rocks! They are popular in Scotland. And I strongly support organic methods and agroforestry. Thanks for the article Tierney!
