Thousands of Americans of all ages have been struck down in the simple act of walking. These "accidents" overwhelmingly occur on roads that are dangerous by design, with little or no provision for people on foot, in wheelchairs, or on a bicycle.

I am sorry, Tierney, but for deeply personal reasons, I do not feel secure in signing any petitions except those originating in Care 2, because Care 2 insures our privacy whereas, orgnization like Change.org sell our email address.

Signed....This happens way to much...

Sometimes though there are people that just get into the way here in San Diego of the trains/trollys etc and want to be killed...can't help them.

Signed with pleasure, Yep, drivers do need to watch out for people on bikes, walking etc...I find it sometimes extremely hard when someone jumps out on a red walk light and I am in the process of turning and have to slam on the brakes.

People do need to be aware of signs, but again, drivers in a car are driving a WEAPON, they have to be extremely careful, if you see someone close, do not turn watch and observe...be careful!

Thanks T for this!!!

Thank you for asking Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to become a vocal supporter of Complete Streets policy.

Every day more pedestrians fall victim to poorly designed streets. It's tragic - so many of these deaths are preventable with simple changes to how our streets are designed. Help us keep up the pressure for safer streets – our communities can't afford to wait!

it's especially important for the elderly who often can't drive and can't react quickly while walking through crosswalks.
