This is a just another prime example of an elitists attempting to dictate morality. I see hedge funds executives as no better than bookies, and how dare this man tell me what to do or not to do with my money. It's people like him who has helped to sale the American economy down the drain. However, I do agree that the gifting part of Christmas has completely gotten out of hand. Personally, I would love to see all the people who feel a need to give gifts to only give American products, and if none can be found to give US saving bonds. I also think charity begins at home, and thank goodness, I still am able to keep my home.

the message is more important than the messenger, in this case. If you cannot give money to charity, give something even more precious: your time. Volunteer in your community (act locally). Here's a place to start: Big Brothers, Big Sisters. This organization has more "littles" than it does "bigs", and needs your help today.

Most products that are given as gifts are now from China not American made. It is almost impossible to find toys for ex. that are not from China. You have this administration to thank for this-note it is people from this country saying give American, not this administration-they have sold us down the river along with our jobs. Yes, there are a lot of volunteer jobs out there from local churches adopting families, helping families through local elementary schools, helping local animal shelters, clothing closets. Just look in your local paper for ways to help. There are so many people in need this time of year and it makes Christmas so much more rewarding to adopt a family or go to your nearest nursing or assisted living home and ask who doesn't have family. Those people are lonely, and would love to have someone, ANYONE care about them at Christmas. All they have left are their memories. Adopting an older person for Christmas is even kinder than adopting a child because everyone wants to help children but few stop to think about the elderly. Also, my Christmas begins every year w/putting all the change I can find in the Salvation Army pot at Walgreens -yes, they are a big organization, but they DO help a lot of people who have NOWHERE else to stay. Christian and Sandra, wouldn't giving to causes that you believe in (or giving only your time or home-made gifts, and staying out of the shopping frenzy that merchants count on) be a good way to fight back against the commercialism that drives the destruction of Earth and relations between people? My two cents. (Oops, a pun, sorry...)
