Noted. Great to hear positive things about our children and their ability to think outside the box to solve problems. Thank you, Thomas, for this heartening story...I hope someone sits up and takes note of this idea and does the fair thing to ensure that this young man receives the credit and financial reward to ensure his acceptance at a first-rate school of his choice.

Great job by the kid! Wouldn't it be easier to just stop using the bags like a large portion of the world is doing. However , maybe, it is a process that should be used to eliminate the bags already "storeD".Thx Thomas!

These bags are indeed a BRILLIANT idea....& they are already in use by"The co-operative Society" in this area!.....they are re-usable....& ideal as bin liners etc;....they start to degrade in app 18 months from the date of manufacture....when they resemble confetti...& within 3 years disappear without trace!....thanks for helping in the publicity that this project urgently needs Thomas!...& hopefully all retailers will quickly follow the co-ops lead in supporting this project!

Horrible to see the Turtle eating a plastic bag. I wonder why they like it?
Let me say that I hate plastic bags and I congratulate this young man. But what are we going to do without plastic bags? Everybody is so set on getting rid of those shopping bags.Which is easy with cloth bags, But, what about all the other plastic, on the groceries. Why don't they stop the manufacturers from wrapping everything into plastic? I mean the shopping bags are only a part of the problem! And I use them and reuse them for garbage, freezer, fridge, vegetables, what are we going to do without them? Glad wrap it? It is plastic too! Plastic bags to me are a bit like guns, don't fear the guns but the person pulling the trigger.

Bea, I donīt think they like it, I think they think itīs something else and try to eat it, then itīs too late and they choke. Itīs very sad indeed.

Its always commendable when young people find an interest in science and doing a study on the degration of plastics in the environment is also very well.

But the premise of the story is wrong - It does NOT take thousands of years for plastics to break down. At lots of museums they have great problems preserving plastic objects from simply disintegrating.

Lots of disposable platic bags are designed to decompose very fast, so the results of the kids experiments were likly just a confirmation, that the bags did as designed.

I you really want to get rid of plastic items they can be incinerated and can serve (with other burnable waste) as fuel for electric power and district heating). The noxious gases produced are trivially filtered from the smoke. We have a large cogeneration powerplant using garbage (amongst other things) as fuel close to the center of the city where I live and its not messing up the environment.

I don't know about anyone else, but I really miss milk in glass bottles. I think that reusing glass is the way to go, but have never researched it and am not really quite sure why nothing is in glass anymore.

The turtles don't "like" plastic bags... they just happen to look just like forms of jelly fish that turtles DO like to eat.
It really is cool that someone of our younger generation is so well focused to come up with this idea... it is a pleasant surprise, considering that there are so few good role models out there for them.
Thanks a bunch for the news!
