On March 28, Desre'e Watson, a 6-year-old kindergarten student at Avon Elementary School, had a bad morning. She cried. She wailed. She kicked. She scratched. She hit a teacher. That's what the police say, anyway. The police? That's right.

This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard of; all I can say is that this police department is not only foolish, they should be glad that it wasn't my daughter that they treated in this way. At least in future, both she and her mother should have a more comfortable life after they sue the pants off of both the school district and the police department.

What is the world coming to??? A FELONG against a six year old child??? Get real!

Hi Rush, perhaps if I used a photo of a cat or a koala, a few more may at least read the article.

why didnt he/she call in the fbi and swat at once?
boy talk about wasting the time of the police had i been the officer id told the teacher not to waste my time with such trivial matters and then id filed a report against the teacher for waisting my time.
get real yur a grown up and you need police help to handle a 6 yr old?
aint it best that that teacher gets a bodyguard to protect him/her against all the terrible and dangerous 6 yr olds out there?

Remember This is Florida Where The police use Tasers on Small Boys at School. Couldn't the Teacher Just remove the other Children From The Area And Wait for the Child to Calm down Call the School Counselour or Nurse or an administrator to assist Or the Childs Mother or Father ( What do You want to bet The Child was from a low income &/or Minority family Nobody that wanted to keep thier job would do that to a rich kid). wonder if they are going to Charge her as an Adult (Zero tolerance for School Violence Ya'know" ) ! !Seriously I do understand that Teachers are in a difficult position whith Violent Students but there has to be Different Protocol for a Kindergartener with Teeth and Nails than a Teenager with a Weapon. My parents Raised me as a Pascifist but if some one did that to my kid there would be Fireings and a Just Lawsuit Or a Body Count ! !

That is very stupid that I ever heard of. How come the teacher called the police instead of the parent. That is the most foolish thing I ever heard of. Charge the kid for felony. This dark world is not right at all. People do not have any brains at all. I not surprise anyway when something is going on the media or reading the news. Things are worse so how worse will it get. Right now these are the evil days we are living in now and the god of the ages is Satan. People better get their souls right because time is running out.

This is the most outrageous thing I've heard of. We can't spank our children for misbehaving but the law can arrest them and charge them with a felony for throwing a tantrum or was that for hiding under the table. Parents stop taking your children to the grocery store. Damn good thing this child isn't mine, Avon Park's finest would be slapping those cuffs on me as well. And what really gets me about this, a man here in WV was sentenced to 6 months, suspended, for fondling his own daughter. What the heck is going on with this country? Geeze!

This is simply absurd!!!!! How can a police officer help and there should never have been any arrest when the child was a mear 6 years of age! The police have better things to do that go to a school to reprimand a small child and write them up!!!!! The parents would think that's not the biz of them. The child should have calmly been taken to the nurse's room or the principal. From there they should have calmly spoken with the child and called the parents to pick their little one up. The school system's messed up and so is the PD.

Oh my! I'm afraid my little guy(back then) would have gotten a life sentence! I wonder if this was 'for show' to get compliance from the unruly kid? Even still, its WAY over the top!

I am shocked that someone would terrorize a child like that. Why couldn't the child be sent to the counsilor or principles office and the parents called.
I am afraid of the next school year, because the elementry school just implimented a new security. Any threat a child makes and he/she will be arrested. And this came soon after the VT shooting.

Amazing the kid gets arrested for throwing a tantrum, but teachers are free to terrorize the kids with no reprecussions

US teachers stage mock gun attack

BBC News
Monday, May 14, 2007

Teachers at a US school have been criticised after staging a fake gun attack during a class trip, telling children it was not a drill.

Many of the 69 pupils, aged about 11, were reduced to tears when they were told to hide under tables and keep quiet as a gunman was on the loose.

Parents of the children, who attended Scales Elementary school in Tennessee, were said to be furious at the "stunt".

The school spoke of "poor judgment" but did not comment on disciplinary action.

Students on the week-long school field trip had been told to expect a "campfire prank" but the mock attack went too far, local education officials said in a statement on Sunday.

'We flipped out'

The incident lasted about five minutes and was intended to be a learning experience, said the school's assistant principal, Don Bartch, who led the trip.

"We got together and discussed what we would have done in a real situation," AP news agency quoted Mr Bartch as saying.

One pupil said the lights went out and about 20 children started to cry. A teacher, wearing a hooded jumper, also pulled at a locked door.

"I was like 'Oh My God.' At first I thought I was going to die. We flipped out," said 11-year-old pupil Shay Naylor.

The move angered many of the children's parents - especially in the light of last month's massacre at Virginia Tech university, where a student killed 32 people and himself.

"The children were in that room in the dark, begging for their lives, because they thought there was someone with a gun after them," said Brandy Cole, whose son was on the trip.

The director of schools is to decide what action - if any - should be taken against the staff involved.

(Follow up) Some of the teachers were suspended Personally i think they should be arrested under the PATRIOT act

Sec 501 anyone who breaks a state or federal crime, to cause injury or harm to another person

Clearly these teachers broke this law
