Health & Wellness  (tags: GMO's, food, health, risks )

After a huge backlash on the signing in of The Monsanto Protection Act from activists and protestors, there's a great chance this will be repealed! Many senators signed without reading it first. Please keep up the pressure to stop Monstersanto!!

Thanks so much for helping everybody! Green stars to all I can star. Didn't realize the petition was so old. I can't find a contact to kick them in the butt and get them to send it. Now's the time to send it!!! So infuriating these petitions that just sit there or have no target. I'll keep trying to get a hold of them.

Thx Kim for throwing out here what looks like good news! I think I've even seen and signed for Merkely's bill, hope that will succeed. Yep, it was a storm, ever since that was signed by the prez I've sent back every single email from the dems containing a donation request ("..have his back, blah...") with the remark to send to Monsanto when asking for money! I will NOT SUPPORT anything until an executive order to repeal section 735!

I signed earlier this year.

This nicknamed "Monsanto Protection Act" was actually a rider tacked on to an appropriations bill that automatically expires in six months -- in Sept., I think -- but, still, that gives Monsanto an opening to get GM seeds out; and once they're out and pollinating, there's no stuffing them back into Pandora's Box.

For anyone still unsure of the issues, PLEASE take 20 minutes to watch this interview with Dr. Huber:

I ask only fifteen minutes.
Five to read this and another ten to inform you on behalf of your
The dictatorship of the seed.
Have you ever wondered where they come from the tomatoes you eat? Carrots, lettuce you consume, peas and onions, have you ever wondered who grows them? If you really will do good for your health, or maybe there is something (or maybe several things) that you do not know maybe?
The natural history of the things that we believe and we eat every day, so many, but many of those obscure things that would not be enough even seven films from Star Wars to tell all.
First of all the food dictatorship. What is it?
It 's something very simple: It' the town, the region, the state, the European Community, the America that says to its farmers: "If you want to grow fruit and vegetables do not have to use the seeds that you want but the seeds we want. If you want to sell your fruits and vegetables you can not sell it as, where and when you want it, but how, where and when we want "
Now, since 1998 the European Community reserves the marketing and exchange of seeds to seed companies (multinationals famous) prohibiting it to farmers. So what farmers have done for millennia, has become so suddenly, a crime.
The little problem is that the multinationals of the seeds as well as get rich on the backs of farmers use GMOs, (genetically modified organisms), of which many, many are not only dangerous, but also poisonous. GM CAN CAUSE SOME TYPES OF VARIOUS TYPES OF CANCER AND TUMOR. Fifteen millions of peasants are hostage to the GM, and 250,000 farmers - reduced to poverty - have taken their lives in recent years.
And now let's talk about Monsanto, one of the largest multinational seed companies that are literally killing off small farmers.
Prior to his entry into the agricultural market, Monsanto has produced things like aspirin. He also produced plastics, synthetic rubber, caffeine and vanillin, an artificial flavor of vanilla.
On the side not so harmless, in 1930 began to produce the toxic PCBs.
Today Monsanto controlling our food, poisons our land, and influence all three branches of government. They produce the world's best selling herbicide.
Many of their factories are now toxic Superfund sites. (translation from ITA forum)

Curzio, You signed on January 11, 2013 - thank you so much for this Kim

Kudos Kim, thank you for posting ! Yes, signed the petition. What is also an outrage is these bloody unrelated riders that get stuffed into proposed legislation that half of Congress doesn't even read and then passes. How is this freaking legal ! This happens all the time.! Sorry for the digression, but I would hope legislation would be enacted to stop this filthy unethical and pandering practice.

Angelika R (143)

Constance is raising an important-and once again topical point. They are just now trying to sneak in another rider into the 2013 farm bill to prevent all states from labeling GMO! just put out a new petition, but unfortunately with a wrong link-maybe someone else has it and can spread it..-?

I signed on Set. 26, 2010. Thanks Kim.
On May 25, activists around the world will unite to March Against Monsanto.
Why do we march?
Research studies have shown that Monsanto’s genetically-modified foods can lead to serious health conditions such as the development of cancer tumors, infertility and birth defects.
In the United States, the FDA, the agency tasked with ensuring food safety for the population, is steered by ex-Monsanto executives, and we feel that’s a questionable conflict of interests and explains the lack of government-lead research on the long-term effects of GMO products.
Recently, the U.S. Congress and president collectively passed the nicknamed “Monsanto Protection Act” that, among other things, bans courts from halting the sale of Monsanto’s genetically-modified seeds.
For too long, Monsanto has been the benefactor of corporate subsidies and political favoritism. Organic and small farmers suffer losses while Monsanto continues to forge its monopoly over the world’s food supply, including exclusive patenting rights over seeds and genetic makeup.
Monsanto’s GMO seeds are harmful to the environment; for example, scientists have indicated they have caused colony collapse among the world’s bee population.

I've signed quite a few petitions lately against Monsanto, whom I hate! Signed your top post one today, Kim, and see some links to others in comments. I'll have to look at them to see if I signed them. Here's info and a petition I just i found in my inbox today. PLEASE SIGN IT IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY (Sorry, I don't know how to make a clickable link here so you'll have to copy and paste the link into your browser :
Senator Jeff Merkley is introducing an amendment to repeal the Monsanto Protection Act – the outrageous provision which allows Monsanto and other companies to ignore court orders to stop selling their GMO seeds, despite safety concerns. Tell the Senate to take action:

thanks, Kim, for sharing, as this sure is a great source for concern!

Monsanto is a dangerous corporation that is playing games with our health while being so unscrupulous as to take advantage of the fact that everybody must eat... something!!!

Well, another reason why eat ORGANIC food whenever possible! Coming from small farmers, locally grown at best. No GMO is allowed there! I know nothing is absolutely reliable these days (mislabeling, fraud, etc.), but there still are good options out there, I believe. The organic market is woefully small, at least here, though, and the prices are not always very "consumer friendly" - yet, I am doing my best to make the best choices possible.
