A quote you see everywhere is Gandhi's line about being the change you want to see in the world. Since I'm a corny guy, I took that to heart. Here are some of the main problems with the establishment media that I want to help change:

Great article Michael.

I love this part:

"They confuse neutrality with objectivity. If the Cowboys and Steelers play and the Steelers win 21-0, and you say the Cowboys and Steelers both played equally well - you have lied to your audience. You are neutral, but nowhere near objective."

Michael that quote you posted by Malcom X has prompted me to learn more about this figure in history.
Like all great quotes, this one is insightful and explicit. A classic case of Divide and Rule.
The article is superb!!! The media have the power to "paint a canvas" in whatever colour they wish depending on what outcome is required. Main stream media are the servants of the establishment, knowingly or otherwise. People are disinterested in political shows as they have no confidence their credibility plus they are down right boring as the article says!! Hope speech video is brilliant!!!

Interesting, You are in the ranks of the warriors on the 'good' side of the battle for America's soul. However in my opinion battle is being waged over something that is already lost beyond redemption. Nonetheless I genuinely wish you luck with your attempt to struggle free of the American corporate juggernaut....

Excellent article and very true. I hope something can be done about it. Progressive thinking like this gives me hope that each generation becomes smarter, more insightful and hopefully bring the change we need, otherwise the human race will probably parish by it's own hand. I even liked the quote by Malcom X, but from other things I've seen and read from and about him, he's a separatist and I am not for that, so I was a bit turned off that the quote, even though wise, was chosen from Malcolm X.

Malcolm X knew what he was talking about. The newspapers have all been bought off by our politicians. But he didn't know about the INTERNET. The Republicans ARE trying to brainwash us into hating the poor, gays, and Muslims but they didn't count on the silent majority who see who the REAL THIEVES ARE and it's THEM. Only the Bible thumping ignorant don't know who their oppressors are.

I don`t know how you think you can change an èstablishment`media which is reflecting the wishes of its owners in the way it operates - and the dictates of editorial policy as established by the propaganda offices of the White House and Pentagon. Even Karl Rove`s budget doesn`t account for the authority he will have in promoting fear and hate. Nor can one forget that AIPAC is only a visible sign of media manipulation throughout the world, especially including Britain.
That`s why I long ago started compiling alternative sources...and is part of the reason I ended up frequenting this newsboard despite a lack of sympathy with Pollyanna politics.http://opitslinkfest.blogspot.com/

We all remember I hope we remember THE THEME FOR THE OLD SCI-FI TV SHOW THE OUTER LIMITS WELL HERE IT IS There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to... The Outer Limits. PLEASE STAND BY well this is true an it is "NOT" a tv show the onces with all the MONEY are controlling what we see hear an read what your KIDS learn in school they tell you what wear what to eat what kind of car to drive and so ON AN MOST PEOPLE JUST SIT QUIETLY AN LET THEM TAKE CONTROL OF WHAT THEY SEE AN HEAR AN READ. =^..^

Thank you Michael for posting this interesting article.

Thanks, Michael.

BTW, I here my birthday with Malcolm. Long been irrationally proud of that fact. (Irrationally since I had no choice in the matter.) Long time after him, of course; otherwise I'd be even older than I am. I am, however, old enough enough to recall the short period irrational progressive exuberance that followed Watergate: Congress remadel journalism the most honorable of professions. Sad neither lasted.

I watched Cenk on msnbc, missed why he got pulled, he was probably speaking the truth. Heads' up folks, check out Link TV, Free Speech TV, BBC America, there are a few good news channel options worthy of support. Glad to see Cenk on Current, and pleased Current is fleshing out their offerings. TY M!

Comment on eschewing news entirely because there can be so little trust to get the full story and truthfully. While I'm sympathetic to feeling that way, that's why we develop discernment. There is usually at least a kernel of truth in reporting, and if not, awareness as to just how badly facts are free to be spun can be valuable information in itself.

Pamela,

Malcolm abandoned his separatism late in his life. That produced a rift with Elijah Mohammed and probably is what got him assassinated. (Course, could have the white power elite, too.) See
his Autobiography and the film with Denzel Washington.

As we face complete mental breakdown of every system man has ever created, will awakening people to see these truths help before its too late? We have been trying so hard for so long now. Thanks for the article. Copied the link and mailed to a few select friends.

I still read a newsprint newspaper but have cut down on reading them mainly because
all the news "out there" is NOT being reported. The paper has become biased with regards
to political favoritism, usually tio the right conservative thinking. The trick in reading papers
these days is to read between the lines and not take those articles seriously. The other
trick is to keep abreast of the news by going on-line and re4ading those news outlets per
your own political beliefs and standings. Again, you have to read with an open mind and have
to be careful to continue reading between the lines. The one other trick is "TRUST"... Now, that
is a big "IF"...

TY, Michael.

Between the article and the "Hope Is...speech, Chris Hedges has given us much to think about. As you know Chris was arrested right after giving that speech. As for the media or at least what is available to most on TV, it is exactly that, either extremely left or extremely right - or - most irrelevant so middle of the road as to say nothing.

The OWS movement has planted the seeds, it is now up to each of us to protect those seeds and help them grow. It is all in our hands.

When asked what type of government the American people were going to participate in, by a well-meaning woman, a stern Benjamin Franklin warned that our new government was going to be "A republic, madam, if you can keep it."

So we each must decide if it is worth our effort and joining of ideas to keep a republic or allow the continued disintegration into nothing more then another police state ruled openly by the oligarchy.

Awesome article article Michael. Are we the Malcolm in the middle? Makes you wonder. But are we all know news paper articles is like DRAMA. It can turn things around for the better or make it worse. News paper ought to be titled Ripley's Believe It Or Not and will say anything for a quick buck in the fast lane. Freedom of Speech needs to be word of Truth and not lure words to make people believe something different. Like anything else, their is always a read between the line reading that's not printed.

@ Dottie..it's a 1992 movie aptly called "Malcolm X"
and it's a very good movie, even though a bit watered down if you've ever read his writings and what he considered his own truth.
@ Myron..if people can get through my android driven exorbitant amount of typos, trust me, your posts are great, and on yours the message far outweighs your few blips!
And thank you Michael, thank you for being "corney" my friend..it's much needed, especially by those in desperate need of clarification and honest information.

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” ― Malcolm X

Yes. Just so. I see this every day on this very site.

Obama commits murder through ''extra judicial executions'' of American citizens; goes to war without going to congress first; signs the ''indefinite detention act'' into law, and the people here love him. Then vilify Ron Paul for fighting against all of these violations of the US Constitution by calling him a ''Repugnican''.

Peace

Regards
Ken

Thanks, Michael. Wonderful comments. Except one.

Open your eyes, Ken, none of us here loooooooooove Obamas betrayals. He is just the lesser of two Fascisms right now. Fascist Light if you will (my opinion only). Ron Paul, while having some good ideas, is a racist (card carrying member in good standing of the John Birch Society), doesn't give a flying rats southern end if old people, disabled people or the severely poor of any/all colors live or die. He doesn't give a crap about breathable air, drinkable water or contaminated food. Votw for that, I think not.

I would suggest that we get Ron Paul the GOP nomination, so we could properly hear what he is talking about. Anyone who thinks he would roll back any of the civil rights gains, does not see the whole picture, of what he is about, with getting sound money and closing all over seas bases would do.
