On the eve of his wedding, a Florida man heard a burglar in his home, grabbed a gun and opened fire. Tragically, the supposed intruder turned out to be his live-in fiancee - who died in front of him

Is this how the term "Shot gun wedding " came to be?

Before opening fire didn't he wonder "Where is my partner?" since she obviously wasn't in bed with him? If I were the investigators I'd be looking very closely at this one. How's her insurance cover?

Thanks Terry!

But...in reading this article, I really want to know how much did this guy really love her? Maybe this is yet another cover up. How could he think she was in bed and she is out? That is very strange to me, think somethings extremely fishy here, I personally wouldn't want to be near that guy he just sounds NUTTY to me! Poor lady, but then again what was she doing out at 2:30am?

Did they have any friends that made any comments on how these two related and acted towards each other? Were their assets co-mingled? Or, just he just get cold feet? Strange not to yell out first...some States you have a right to shoot someone entering your house, personally, I like the alarm, golf club (5 iron) mace and an attack dog!

This is so tragic, and must be heartbreaking for this man... my new neighbor comes out of exactly the same circumstances when they were staying out of town... Guns can be a curse for sure, and when owning one... one must think of the huge responsibility that goes with it

Just one more reason why it is a bad idea for folks to have guns. Guns kill. That is their purpose. So I can't see why a person wants one unless they do intend to kill either a person or an animal. Theres already enough damage done by cops with guns, never mind the public.

An absolute tragedy. Responsible gun ownership comes to mind here.

It's a very sad indictment on a society that members of it feel the need to be armed with guns of any description.
We in Australia had a past Prime Minister (John Howard) who was brave enough to face the gun lobby and take gun ownership away from all but registered owners who have to be licenced and have a valid reason to own one.
The many many thousands of firearms surrendered or confiscated were destroyed.
Regardless of the reasons behind this tragedy if he had not possessed a gun the poor lady would still be alive.
And I can't help thinking why would you not challenge an intruder and declare you are armed before just pulling the trigger.

The only reason you should have to fire on someone is if your life or your loved ones lives are in danger. Do not assume never assume.

I know personally of a few instances where a gun in the home led to an accidental shooting. If every one can get a gun or a rifle, why do we need a police department? If this man heard an intruder in his home why didn't he hold off shooting and call 911. He had absolutely no knowledge if the intruder had a weapon, so why did he shoot? He could have called out a warning.

THAT IS WHY CANADIANS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO OWN HANDGUNS....EVEN WITH PERMITS-THE SYSTEM IS VERY STRICT!!
