Why does America allow pleading to lesser charges? In the UK the charges are brought and there is no plea bargaining but we do allow a reduction on the final sentence. It is ridiculous to allow a pre-charge and sentence before a trial, that isn't justice.

I would guess that it might have been impossible to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that this was a planned murder on her part. They figured that the most they could have gotten was the conviction for child abuse homicide which she pleaded guilty to. Also the sentences were consecutive which means that she could serve 30 years in prison. I hope that it is not just 2 years.

You know I worked in the courts system for 5 years and it never seems to amaze me when people of this sort get plea bargins and reduced senteces...bullshit if you ask me...sorry care2, but its true.

I agree Esther..that is most likely the case..and that is just why they do allow the plea..so as not to lose the case..
Its seems unfair..unjust..but in many cases it is best to at least have the lesser charge and know that they will be found guilty in it and do time..

She should be working for child abuse prevention for the rest of her lifetime. That should be her judgment, after she does her jailtime of course. I don't understand how they would let this women plea bargain down to a lessor charge. It's not because she's honest that's for sure?

As a mother of three and grandmother of two, I can't imagine anyone wanting to murder an innocent child. Children that young don't yet know what's right and wrong - and even if they did, right and wrong are not absolutes. That woman didn't give this poor baby a chance.

Debra, I think that's a great idea, working 12-hour days for child abuse prevention for the rest of her life. And she can do it while still in prison. The Manson girls did charity work from the pen! I don't think she deserves any breaks at all.

That poor baby!!!!! ANYBODY WHO KILLS A CHILD SHOULD GET LIFE IN PRISON OR DEATH, NOTHING LESS!!! What is wrong with the justice system?? It's like they're on the side of the murderers! A 2 year old BABY cannot fight for her life! She was at the mercy of her monster of a mother!!! I really wish they would change the laws and have ZERO TOLERANCE for people that hurt children! Then maybe people would think twice about hurting a child!!! :(
