Why do Mountain Lions need to be shot for sport? I thought South Dakota was one of the States less populated, so aren't the Lions' range not as competitive? Can't they be relocated?

Sport? It would only be sport if the mountain lions had high powered rifles and high tech gear--or if the hunters were only using what the mountain lion uses when it hunts--senses, instinct, claws and teeth. Sport? Don't make me laugh. And don't even get me started on what passes for sport, please.

At least the new 2010 maximum kill stipulation is a tiny step in the right direction.

Very sad... the intentional killing of any animal just sickens me!!! How this can be considered a sport is beyond me!!! I'm not into retaliation but, I would like to see those hunters left in the wild without their beloved rifles and have them see how it feels to be hunted down! Thanks for the post! Peace.

What kind of person feels a sense of jubilation taking the life of these beautiful creatures? Human kind is on a fast downward slope to being damnned. Truly sad- story noted.

Everything in Life is for a reason, we must keep our vision focused on the big picture here..there is so much darkness in the World today we can only work together with positive thoughts of getting this situation to work outside our jurisdiction.

I have decided to give all the animals guns -perhaps the hunter will feel the peril of being hunted.

Unless you are hunting the animal for food, I see no sense in killing it. What happens to the bodies of these beautiful animals after they are killed? I am sure they are not used to provide food for anyone. Makes me sick.

south dakota is such a beautiful state, but i can tell you from living there and in wyoming that these states' position on animals is radically different from humane. they love to hunt and many don't even see anything wrong with using dogs, gps and four-wheelers in pursuit of their "game" ~

i have seen hunters do terrible things there, including "posing" their kills on the backs of their pickups. i can't live with it ~

now these wild creatures have gone from noble living cats to somebody's interior decoration. i want to vomit. excuse me, i think i am ~

These animals are our brother's and sisters. I don't understand why they need to kill them at all? Why can't we live with them and save some habitat from them to live peacefully in the world today. This is uncalled for, if you as me, I wish things were different. This isn't sport it's killing at it's best, their's no reason to kill a moutain lion, your not going to eat it are you???

First, I'd like to say that I'm not defending the hunters, but -

The area where the mountain lions can roam without impacting humans is small. By "impacting humans" I mean attacking young children and possibly killing them and eating them.

What a waste. Humans have invaded mountain lion territory.

There is really a "no win" situation at the present. As humans invade their areas then they are forced to act according to their nature- which includes attacks on humans. Somehow, someway there must be a way in which all species- human and animals can coexist. Or at least that is my Prayer.

Why do people feel they need to write such nasty things? Isn't Care2 about caring? If you don't care then bugger off somewhere else! I am damned if I know why they bother...

For the rest of you, I am so very sad that the lions were killed. High powered rifles against a cat is not sport. WIsh they had shot them with cameras....

Bob A. What is your statements suppose to mean?
Mountain Lions didn't take our wilderness we took theirs!!!!! I think it is wonderful that the family furry friend saved the boy, but just as he was saved is as much as our animals on this planet deserve to live also.
People can be very misleading at times but with an animal you know where you stand right off the bat!!!!
Thanks Terry
