I can't wait for "the rest of the story." This just does't add up so I'll be following closely to see just who or what did what and when!!!!!!

I, too, am interested in the rest of the story. Maybe the dog was protecting the woman from another animal. Thanks, Terry.

injuries to her right arm and shoulder,

It is very possible that the dog was trying to drag her to safety. This has been done by dogs many times before.

Okay I betting the dog was trying to save her after she suffered a heart attack.
Dogs that attack take out the throat.

I bet the dog was trying to help her. Not meaning to hurt her though.

The dog could have a medical problem, like a tumor in the brain area.I heard of this once before, although the other dog did not get a chance to harm anybody. That dog could not help it when he got nasty

This is very sad but I don't understand why the neighbor called the husband to tell him the dog was loose in his yard when the woman was already dead. Something is wrong here. I think she was murdered and the dog was set up somehow?

Tuesday February 9, 2010, 11:28 pm
this does sound strange that a dog would suddenly attack its owner. something is not right here.

What a horrible way to die. How would YOU like to be chained up, with someone yanking on your neck at whim?

I had a childhood friend who was mauled by a friendly 'family dog'... she didn't die though. but badly scarred.
This sounds silly but ever since i've been scared of rottweiler dogs, because that is the kind that did it to her.
Even though i'm not scared of any other animal... Or dogs!
Usually dogs lash out when they are being persistantly aggravated , If he was a family dog i'm sure he wouldn't do it for no reason!
Jan that does sound suspicious, you may be onto something!
A family dog doesn't murder its owner for no reason.
Theres got to be another side of the story...

Accidents happen when we least expect it.. it must be something to do with the dog's temperament.. or something really was wrong???

This seems somewhat a strange story, hard to reply. Whatever the truth is, it's very sad - either way.

Rotweilers might have a bad face, but they have gentle heart. I cannot believe that the dog is naturally harmful, and I hope that this case will be looked and judged upon with the most fair way, with deep consideration from certified animal behaviorist and detailed autopsy.

My son has a Rotweiler, and it is a gently giant, i have two jack russels and when my son comes with his dog, all three dogs play together, i do not believe for one moment that there is a bad dog, or a bad breed, BUT there are very BAD OWNERS, people who do not know how big dogs must be trained, excersised, and loved and handled properly, i am only 5ft 3" and i take my sons dog all 6 stone of him out for his walk when he comes to vist, and i can see people taking a wide berth from us, and i am sick to death of shouting,, dont panice, he is just a gently giant, and he is, i know alot of [people will not agree, but if a dog only knows love and respect from his owner, then the owner will get respect, and love given back 10 times over, a big dog must always be watched especially when around children, as, children can hurt the animals, i have seen little children kick my dogs, for no reason, when i have spoken to their parents, all i got was, they are only you wonder then why we have animal cruelty, if parents are not showing their youngsters it is wrong at an early age to not ever hurt any animals, so reading this site, nothing fits, i do not believe for one moment that this dog has mauled this woman to death, by her marks on her body it was like the dog was trying to drag his owner somewhere out of harms way, like everyone else on this page, i would also like to know what really happend the day this woman died, your dogs would defend you to the death, not do something like maul their owners to death, yes..i have heard of dogs attacking, but when you have read in between the lines the dogs that attacked had had a life of abuse, or were neglected, so all they were doing were trying to protect themselves, when animals attack children, children can hurt animals, pulling their fur, kicking them, the dogs when hurt just retaliate, dont we when we are hurt by another person, anyway there is alot more to this story than what is being told on the site, i hope Cher that if you get any updates on this story you can let us all know what the outcome is....thanks cher...noted....

does sound strange that the injuries where are the arm and shoulder, you would think if it was a actual attack the hands would have been hurt because you usually cover your face and stuff with hands, strange strange strange

I just hope that the Courts dont do the easy thing and have the dog euthanized.

Interesting article; I'm sorry the woman died, but was it REALLY from a 'mauling' by this animal...I have my doubts...all considered. NOTED

This is so sad. May her soul rest in peace. Questions, how do we know if the dog is responsible for her death, rather than, was he/she trying to save his/her master's life? Why didn't the dog attack her husband, after he found her outside???? Very strange indeed?????

I'm with you Tammy.. I don't think the dog did it either..after all this is a newspaper, the person who wrote up the story is probably afraid of Rottweilers and thought this would be great news.

I want to know more details on the story. It can be both ways, I hope the doggie was trying to drag her out so that they can get help. Animal really do respond when something is wrong with the owner. My kids do it too. it's really lovely.

I'm with Dog. I don't think he would attack her for coming out to let him in on a snowy night. He probably tried to help her. The bad rap is always after them though. It's a sad story.

I agree with Mary Dee. i really think there is more to this store. What they are giving is totally circumstantial. But we may never know the truth, omly the dog does. If it was a vicious mauling she would have have more injuries over more of her body, I believe something else happened here.

Not really enough info. in the article to be able to make a guess. How old was the dog ? What was his general temperment in tthe past ? Where WAS he prior to this ? Why was he ' inadvertantly " left out loose ? For how long ? Was he neutered ? Sick ? Anyway , how horrible for the poor man to find his 63 year old wife dead like that. My heart goes out to him and his family . And now what's gonna happen to the dog ? Will his fate be determined by the results of the autospy ?

No matter how this turns out it is sad all the way around. The breed, no matter what, will have another black mark against it. And the poor woman is dead. I hope they get to the bottom of it all before the dog is destroyed.

You all have it, there is more to this story. The bites are in very strange places for it being an attack. I believe something else happened, that only the poor dead woman knows. Hope the dog is found to be innocent, and able to live. Really wonder what the husband thinks of all of this?

Sounds very fishy. Biting dogs do this form reaction from an action towards them.

I have to agree with Kathy and Mary, their were no defensive wounds, sounds like a dragging and pulling happened, maybe she fell and the dog was trying to bring her inside to the husband.
